Hey, Griffin! I'm a DP based in Tennessee. Our household circuits are usually 15 amps, sometimes 20 amps, depending on several factors. I have a 600D Pro because, like you, I can put two on a 15 amp breaker with wattage to spare. My Mole-Richardson 2k fresnels required a dedicated 20 amp breaker each, which is rarely available in most locations. If I need a 1.2k HMI it still uses most of the breaker, and of course, I need more lights besides that one. It is phenomenal what Aputure has done for us with this light! And being able to dim it fractionally down to 0.1% is incredibly useful with so much output intensity. Thanks for the great videos, Griffin! Keep up the good work!
Hey Page! Thanks for the details on that! I knew it was something like that but couldn’t remember exactly what the details were 😂 all I know is it’s a huge win knowing I can plug two in to a normal household circuit and not worry about it. What type of work do you shoot mostly?
@@GriffinConway Hey, Griffin! So sorry for the late reply. I wasn't checking TH-cam notifications. lol Honestly, my work suffered terribly during covid, and I'm not sure much of it will come back. I've mostly done corporate work for large to medium size corporations, some major ones here and there, mostly boring stuff but occasional super cool stuff. ;-) My most recent 2021 project was a 3-day shoot for KHS America on the release of their new Sonor Vintage Series drum set: th-cam.com/video/Q3CtUyJXQbY/w-d-xo.html || They've been wonderful to work for, and I've had the opportunity to do quite a few projects with them. Due to the shortage of work, I'm actually transitioning to forming my own family entertainment company called Wishology. Over the past year, I built out a small studio space in Mt. Juliet, TN and have been working on building a film set and getting ready to produce my own content. I pray it goes well, but it'll be a big challenge for sure! What about you? What's the bulk of your work?
Hey Tony! Always appreciate the comments from New Zealand. Every time you comment I tell my fiancé we need to travel to New Zealand 😄 thanks for checking the video out!
Great review - from today's perspective 2023 : as you are shooting with both the 600D Pro and the 300 D II - is the higher output the only or main difference? Just get one 600 D or two 300 D? or better save some money and get two Aputure LS 600x PRO - to have more versatility? Would be great to get your opinion on this considerations. 🙏
I have the same softbox! It's pretty great. One thing to be a little careful with is that some bowen's modifiers could overheat the COB. Like even aputure's 2x fresnel, I think most of the softboxes should be fine since there is a lot of space and ventilation, but worth checking.
Yep that's my concern too. Especially adding CTO in a softy - where and how if possible without damaging your gear / risking heat / burning smells etc too that'll make you look like a noob to your clients.
Hey Aaron! Good point. The ones we used worked great. We ran all three at 100% output for about 12 hours straight on set with no funky burning smell or anything. I have definitely fried a few gels though by having them too close to the light though which is never a good look
"One of the only things I don't like is it's always out of stock" LOL (I have been waiting months for my Light Dome SE for my 300x) - Thank you for the review Griffin. I definitely look forward to picking one of these up!
This light is top of my list for precisely for the flexibility it provides because of the output. I hope got get to try the Nova P300c. Would like to know your thoughts on that as well. 2 of the best lights in the market I think.
How's the fan noise for sound Griffin? Acceptable for use in IVs?? Do you have a decent solution for adding CTO yet ie if / when using a softy? Particularly one that's not going to damage your gear (COB etc) or risking heating / burning smells etc with your CTO that might not be a good look with your clients. Thanks for the vid :-)
Thanks for watching! I don’t find the noise to be an issue at all. As long as you use a decent shotgun boomed over talent it will reject it no problem. My solution for helping is using the barn doors from Aputure, and then putting the gel clipped with some c47’s or gaff tape to it. Then to make it a soft source I use a 4x4 frame or some other type of diffusion on a second c stand
Did anyone have an issue with this light turning off after 8 seconds when you first powered it on? It's not the fan issue people talked about, I checked that. It just turns off. Tried multiple outlets and same thing.
Agreed. That is the problem with Aputure. But that is their business model, "supply and demand." This makes it seem that they are even more in demand then they really are, even though, they are pretty in demand, due to making killer products. It's a business strategy. I have a feeling most of the lights that come off the factory belt go right to professional rental houses and studios, thus making it almost impossible for the consumer to get a hold of.
I definitely agree that if they wanted to they could probably scale up production and meet demand. It’s probably good for cash flow not having a ton of products sitting on the shelf though. Interestingly enough, I don’t find many Aputure lights in the studios and rental houses I go to. Might just be an LA thing though. Most of the rental houses carry skypanels, m18’s, jokers, and litemats.
Great work man! Since we can't afford Aperture Lights in India that easily, I am a bit worried. But, I am more than happy that you abroad guys can do better job using the Aperture Lights
Bro don’t even get me started on the Nova 😂😂 I have had my “notify me when in stock” turned on at BH Photo since they were announced a year and a half ago...how are you liking it so far? I rented one for a job and really liked it when I used it
@@GriffinConway haha, dude, I got lucky, shopped around and film tools in Burbank happened to have one in stock shortly after they released and I just happened to call within the 37 seconds that they had it on the shelf 😂 I love it though. That thing has been on every shoot I’ve done since I got it. It’s super versatile. You can literally change the color of entire walls with it 😂
Dooooo it!!!! Lol They’re seriously killer panels. Especially if you’re like me and all your other lights are point source, hard lights. I have a pair or 300x’s, a 300d, and a pair of 120D’s and I was worried that I wouldn’t have a use for the nova but I literally use it on every single shoot. It fills a really good gap being RGB and a soft panel, I’m so stoked on that thing.
Great reviews , man. Straight to the point. And you are actually using your gear for real shoots!

Great video Griffen! Thanks for the BTS with your experience with the 600d. Tempted to get one of these and use it for my videos!
Thanks Tucker! It’s a great light for sure!
Nice job Griffin! Love that overhead with the three 600Ds through the custom chicken coop - great look!

We recently got 2 Aputure 300x Really like the bi-color for talking heads.

how would you say 2 600D with the f10 fresnel would compare to a m18?

Woo 600d 🙄🙄🙄(my dream one godox sl 60 w) 😂😂
I have 600d, and godox sl60w, and sl200w. The sl200 is close enough to the aputure. and only $300. the 60w is a fine light too.
