    I did only 2 modifications: changed the tunners for locking tunners and changed this trem for a vega trem. Superb upgrade because this guitar is really good by the price.

      Cool! You're right, these guitars leave the factory with a lot of potential (and a few quality control issues). The stock pickups actually sound ok, it's more of a hardware issue. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great day!

    I liked it so much as a mod platform, so yeah...I did change the nut (Graphtech), the tuners, the string trees, the knobs (felt too tall, got too much on the way of my right hand), changed the humbucker and installed a Freeway 10 way switch so that I can go both full single coil sounds as well as all the available options with it. So, as strange as it might sound, once modded...it is now my favorite electric. Plays great, sounds great, feels great, the weight is great!! Had to do a little investment, but once it´s done...I love it so much! Wish it came with 22 frets, but...

      Had the same experience with this one; made a few mods and wound up with a guitar I really like. I have a video on my channel explaining what I did (very similar to the mods you described). I have to admit that I prefer 21 frets on a strat, but that's just me (that 22nd fret always throws me off!). Glad it worked out well for you. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great day!

      Well, it is now. Made a few modifications to it and now it's a way better guitar. Got a video on my channel about what I did to improve it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great day!

    Got the red one on sale for $129 CAD. Swapped out the tuners with Wilkinson's which involved some carpentry but not a big deal. Replaced the nut with a graphtech XL and the bridge pup with a GFS vintage voiced HB. Also added a stacked tone pot to split the coils on the HB. Mine did have awful fret ends but a little bit of elbow grease fixed that. I agree with your assessment: Bit too rough out of the box for a beginner but it's a great mod platform if you're looking for something to chop away at. Worst case scenario, you've got a maple neck and a mahogany strat body sub $150.

      Sorry to take so long to reply. I made some similar modifications to mine, and finally got around to making a video about it. It's up on my channel now if you want to check it out. Long story short, I wound up with a guitar I really like and will probably keep. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great day!

    i got a green one a few days ago and so far i'm loving it. maybe with these budget guitars it's partly that some copies are better than others? there is a big break angle on the low E string. i like buying from a local store where i can purchase one i've had a chance to play. i don't think sweetwater does their inspection on inexpensive guitars?

    • @oldsledpurgatory3595
      @oldsledpurgatory3595  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I think Sweetwater pretty much leaves the inspection up to the person who puts the guitar in the box at the factory, and some of them are definitely better than others. Mine had the same problem with the low E string, and I had to make some modifications to the headstock to fix it. I have a video up on my channel explaining what i did to correct that issue as well as some other mods that I made to it. And yes, purchasing a guitar in person is almost always preferable, although I've had pretty good luck buying a few online (knock on wood). Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great day!

    Got a black one a couple weeks ago...like it very much. If you do change the tuners out would be great to hear what you've used. They are vinage size rather than standard, I've read. Would like to change mine out but only if it's relatively simple, boring the peg holes might be a bit much..unless I get the proper tool... great demo!

    • @oldsledpurgatory3595
      @oldsledpurgatory3595  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, spoiler alert! You're likely to run into some challenges when attempting to change the tuners on this guitar, and if it's like mine, it needs them. I have a video in the works explaining the problems I ran into, but here's the short version; the headstock on mine is (was, I'll explain in the video) 5/8 inch thick, while Fenders and most clones are 9/16 inch thick, making most strat replacement tuners too short. Also, the hole for the low e tuner is closer to the nut and further down away from the fretboard then on a typical Fender or clone, forcing the low e string to make a very sharp angle down from the nut to the tuner. On mine the string actually made contact with the wood just behind the nut. And if you want to use Sperzels (my preference), you will have to enlarge the holes, but that's not too hard to do. I will hopefully have a video out in the next few days covering the details and what I did to fix it (I did have to dig through my parts stash and get a little creative). Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great day!

      @@oldsledpurgatory3595 Thanks for the detailed reply! Got lucky with the low E on mine..a bit of space there..now trying to figure which tuners will make for easiest good mod.. here's another good vt211 mod vid I just found th-cam.com/video/nD5ov3EH8-8/w-d-xo.html 👍🤘

    How do you change the sound

    • @oldsledpurgatory3595
      @oldsledpurgatory3595  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, in the video I'm changing the sound by moving the pickup switch and adjusting the volume control (didn't use the tone controls), as well as turning an overdrive pedal on. Probably the best way to change the sound of any electric guitar is to change the pickups. That will likely have the biggest effect. The pickups that came in this guitar from the factory actually sound pretty good, but I installed some better sounding pickups for my own preference. Hope this helps, Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great day!

    Jackson js11 or this guitar? Is my first guitar.

    • @oldsledpurgatory3595
      @oldsledpurgatory3595  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, I haven't played a Jackson Js11, but I'd be willing to bet the Jackson will have a higher level of overall quality than the Kramer VT211S. Now, they're both sub $200 guitars, so they're both likely to have at least a few minor issues, but the Jackson will likely be a little less problematic. Also, the Jackson is a little more "shred" oriented compared to the vintage vibe of the Kramer, so that is something to consider as well. I would also suggest a used Telecaster as a first guitar, as they tend to be pretty affordable (you could probably pick up a good used Squier Tele for about the same amount of money), are very simple and relatively easy to work on, and they will work well in many different styles of music, plus they're tough as nails. But if you just gotta have that hot rod strat style guitar with a trem (and I don't blame ya), I would probably recommend the Jackson over the Kramer, but that's just my opinion, and there are many other choices in this price range. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great day!

    What’s the weight of this instrument ?

    • @oldsledpurgatory3595
      @oldsledpurgatory3595  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a really good question, however I don't have a scale to weigh it on. The one I got is about average weight (6-7 pounds, maybe) for a strat. It's the only one I've ever played, so I'm not sure if they are all the same weight or not. It's a pretty comfortable weight for me (not to light, not to heavy). Hope this helps.
