The story of the Kraft Wise Sports Toyota Cavalier, weird JGTC racecar that appeared in the 97 and 98 seasons of the GT300 class. Idk what else to put down here
I had a ‘97 base model 5 speed coupe as my daily driver for 15 years. By far the best car I ever had! You could drive that thing at 85 mph all day long and get 33 mpg. The coupe is very aerodynamic as evidenced by many used in NHRA Pro Stock class in the early 2000’s. They ran over 200 mph in the quarter mile! In my opinion the lines on the coupe are beautiful. (The 4 door is butt ugly). My current project is a ‘96 Z24 with rear wheel drive, Corvette LS, suspension and driveline. It’s no joke.
I'm glad someone else knows about this! I fell down a search hole when I saw a Toyota Cavalier on one of the Japanese auction sites and it had a trd kit on it. Is it weird that I want to import one now.
Up there with the Lancia 037 rally car used at Fuji Speedway in 1994. Yeah, they used a Rally car with a top speed of 200km/h on the racetrack with one of the longest straight line in the world. At least it finished the race
@@garthhancock3373 lmao nah They took a Group B spec, still with the Lancia Martini livery,, adjusted the suspension and called it a day. No further changes were made.
My first car was a chevrolet cavalier. It was my grandmas beater car and was passed down to me. I love that thing so much. So much time and work put into it. When I found out there existed a toyota cavalier, i wanted one so bad. Although, theyre so incredibly rare and not many people know about them. I would totally add it to my collection of cars if i could.
A goal of mine is to take a random cavalier do an engine swap, probably a k20 from a civic and add a crazy wide body to it to give massive downforce. I don’t know why but to me I’ve always been fascinated with a race built Cavalier or a Pontiac Sunfire.
well, there were more bizarre cars in JGTC GT300 in the 90s, like the Mitsubishi Mirage C53A (a hatchback) and Renault Sport Spider (the only open-top car in the history of the race)
JGTC (now Super GT) was the most creative and unique motorsport than any motorsport. Imagine in 1994 ex Group C Porsche 964 was join in gt 500 class against Nissan R32.
We have 2 Cavaliers , a 99 z24 and a 99 sedan both are very reliable and in no way an embarrassment to own or drive. Neither were made to race on a track but the z24 is just as fun and capable as any civic of the same Era. They weren't made to race against porsche, supra, nsx or a skyline
sometimes I wonder where it is? I mean I saw a picture of a JGTC Supra being used as a flower bed in some old mans front yard. Perhaps hidden in Toyota's musuem?
That widebody looks sick though. Wonder if getting one is still possible
They are not, You'd likely have to get ahold of Bomex and see if the mold is sitting in the warehouse if it hasn't been destroyed
You’d probably be more fruitful learning how to 3D model and designing a clone from scratch than finding the original molds haha.
You forgot to add that Yumi Sato's entrant in the car in the 1997 season was the first time a woman had raced in the JGTC. Cool bit of history there.
And I think Sato managed a 4th place in class at some point with this car that stands as the best result ever achieved by a woman in jgtcc
I really wish this car had more recognition there relatively easy to turn into fun cars
I had a few z24s and Sunfire GTs the aftermarket was an issue on top of horrible gearing etc stock
"My Cavalier is faster than your Diablo!"

Japan motor racing scene is always interesting. They bring weird cars to the track like prius all the time.
That race car version looks sick!
The Chevy cavalier is one of the most popular car in Motorsports. After the twingo and the crown Victoria

the sheer weirdness of JGTC cars is why its one of my favorite racing series. Even super GT of today had a prius for quite some time
love the videos man. great quality stories of automotive culture.

Change out the gearing and it'll top out much higher. I'm sure the team took care of that.
@@garthhancock3373 From what I have read, it could only reach 210kph at Fuji with the longest gear ratio. It qualified 26 seconds off the pole lap.
@@garthhancock3373 lmao nah
