I started riding fixed in the mid-00s cause I frickin' hated cars and all my guy friends would ride around whippin' skids and running alleycats so I fell into it. The connection to the road is like no other so I haven't stopped since, it's just a different feel. Never really got into super high-end frames but I did go for niche builds to be the ultimate hipster XD. Wait till you ride a fixed IGH three speed bike! I built a wheel with a very nicely named hub from Sturmey-Archer. the S3X hub. Now 90s mountain bike restomods is like that fixed bike boom all over again and I'm all for it, no reason you can't make one of those into a fixed gear cruiser :D plus that era had some amazing paintjobs that go well for a more cutesy girl bike build if you can find the step-through frame versions of them, I have 2 of those myself :D Thanks for the nostalgia dood!

Been riding bikes for a long time back in college. Then came needing money to buy a phone after old one got stolen, had to sell my only bike. Missed riding a bike for 2 months and after new year, got my self an SSCX. Loved the very part of saving enough pennies than commuting to work and back home. Bikes are 🔥🔥🔥

Bro I just started mtb after not touching a bike for 18 years. 33 now. Its been intense, we went to megavalanche, the biggest mass start race in the world with 2,5 months of experience. I love biking thats all I been doing since April!

Biking and the amount of customization it allows is an amazing alternative to car modding. It’s what you do with no money or mechanical experience. 😂

Honestly if that had the same engine as the eventual Cobalt ss's, then that would have been a decent car. I'm pretty sure the cavaliers weigh less than the cobalts, but I'm not gonna lie, that body kit really does give it a nice look. 😅

you forgot to say the biggest thing - they feel fast as shit compared to other bikes. silent and deadly thru traffic. make the world feel standing still. all the same as cars.

Fixies are awesome, until you get a 7km 1:20 hill, and you have a backpack, and a 60 km/h headwind... When I'm commuting, give me gears, or give me a bus ticket!

There was a meme on reddit about fixed gear rider getting brain damage from bombing down a 15% grade with no brakes and i think it perfectly sums up fixed gear culture. Just wear a helmet, aero clothing and use gears like a normal person.

I'm Dutch so basically they put me on a bike right after I came out of the womb. But this does make me want to dust off my fastest bike :) Also, FYI, a Dutch article argued that bikes are faster than cars. The reasoning is this: A) If you bike for a minute you'll live a minute longer because of the cardiovascular exercise. This means that biking takes no time (on the timescale of your entire life) B) If you go by car you are faster short term, but you have to work to pay for that car and gas etc. meaning those minutes you save take hours to afford. If you add these things up then cars are pretty slow. With bicycles basically being free in comparison, A+B means that bikes allow you to timetravel.

I became a fixie hipster when instagram first came out in 2010 it was kind of like flickr for your phone, I remember my first picture i ever posted was of my bike. and you know I had to put the filter on it so it looks like a brown and white picture today I am still a fixie hipster, just with a longer beard and I no longer use instagram I am way too hipster for that. I use a gameboy camera

Fixies are also great for snowy winters. There are no gears or brakes, so there isn't much to clean or worry about. If you can afford it, then you build a 650b wheelset to fit beefier tyres, or buy something like skream ranger that accommodates thicker tyres out of the box. This is my 6th winter riding a track bike and it feels very liberating.

Nice video. I agree with your point for the most part, but I think you mischaracterized car guys. I’m not one, but it seems like they care about status, aesthetics and “cool engine noise” more than what you described in modifications, community and transportation needs.

Another advantage over a car hobby: you can put the bike in your living room and admire the esthetics like its a painting on your wall. You can't do that with a car generally speaking.
