    I'm impressed with how well the gelding handled everything! He not only stayed remarkably calm during the stallion's "visit", but then re-focused and went right back to work on the course!

      BOLT THE HORSE It's a gelding. It's in the title. The stallion followed 'him' because he thought it was a mare but you can clearly see when he realises that the gelding was not and instead moved around to face the other horse.

      BOLT THE HORSE Sorry but that doesnt mean jackshit to me right now as you are very clearly wrong. Furthermore, I can sit here and say/ type that I own 50 high-end gypsy vanners and you wouldn't know whether it was the truth because *gasp* this is the internet.
      As to actually counter your point, there is no sheath visible on the stallion either so, by your logic, he's a mare? Unless you can actually give me substantial evidence as to prove this gelding is a mare, that is not just 'oh the stallion is horny uwu' or 'if I can't see it it isn't there', I suggest you sit down and let people who actually understand horse behaviour talk.

      BOLT THE HORSE Nice language there, glad to know what kind of a person I'm talking to. Listen, I'm not calling you a liar but I won't blindly believe you either- don't want to mention but with a name in all caps and language that limited, I'm bound to have my doubts (not judging just stating my opinion).
      Just because you can't see the sheath on the other horse doesn't mean it isn't there- I for one cannot see the sheath of either horse but am I going to go around preaching that they are lesbian mares, no! To me and alot of others, you look like a fool as you are blindly stating what you think is fact without actually doing your own research- I don't know what sort of an act your trying to pull but you are just being perceived as a brat who thinks they know everything about horses.
      I'm too tired to continue this conversation, and I suppose you have your 'horse' to attend to. I wish you luck with your animals- goodbye BOLT.

    It's understandable someone fell off their horse at a show, but people need to realize stallions are much more likely to injure other horses, rather than a loose gelding or mare. If you have a stallion you need to be extra cautious and careful when in competition AND WILLING to pay for other peoples damages if your horse injures theirs.

The horse is going flat out heading for the next jump, and she's trying to get him to stop while watching this other horse heading straight for her... Also the horses face isn't in pain he's excited and wants to continue not stop...

      You are missing the point, wilcox. Mares and geldings do not, and will not act out like studs will, and the dangers of stallions are legend. Thankful the rider and her mount were so calm and in control. For those of you saying, "oh he figured out it was a gelding and backed off..." no he didn't. Sick and tired of people who know nothing about horses acting like they are experts.

      Jeanette Vasko Horses only actually fight as a last resort. They’re prey animals so being injured is too big a risk. This appeared to be an under-socialized stallion who saw another horse and wanted to meet them. He likely thought the gelding was a mare at first, as evident by his nickering. Also, even real fights between stallions usually only end in a few bruises and scrapes. Serious injuries are extremely rare.

  • @StephieLilley

    Everything was handled as it should have been. Once the stallion figured out the horse was a gelding he did nothing other than stand. In all honesty his "rearing" was probably a sign of wanting to play. I've seen it many times. As he did not actually strike nor bite the gelding. I have a friend who owns and has owned many stallions, mares and geldings and every one of her stallions is very polite and acts more like a gelding than a stallion. My old trainers stallions are the same way. It all comes down to handling, training, temperament, etc. Not all stallions are "bad" as most people like to think. I'm not saying this to get a hundred comments back trying to start an argument or start a "I know everything" war. I'm just stating what I have experienced. Nothing more.

      ***** It also helped that the rider stopped their horse, a lot of stallions get more excited when chasing a target. If your stud is hesitant to jump a mare then asking her to move back and forth will often get him riled up enough to get it done. I use this method a lot with older stallions. This was well handled, I'd have liked to hear the warning of loose horse before he appeared in frame, but other than that this went perfectly.

    The whole situation was handled very calmly and without fuss or drama. Being the owner of a dressage stallion, it is NOT always possible to keep them under control (try as we might). Mine has been with experienced stallion handlers since day 1 and he is well behaved but he has his moments but that's why I love him. It is for this reason that they are not pets and you always need to be vigilant - but issues can always arise with a stallion, however, you need to keep some perspective here.

A lot of equestrian events are allowing Riders to go bitless and it is catching on... Slowly, it's catching on but it is catching on and that's better for the horse

    I see a lot of why a stud horse, and why is a stud stallion loose questions.
    Not all stallions are stud horses. Many stallions are kept whole because there was no need to cut them when they were colts. I know plenty of whole stallions that get up on there high chair, as it were, because they have gotten loose even when in a field with no sight of others. This stallion had either ran off from being spooked, having had a small accident or incident where the rider was or the rider fell off. A stallion will go straight for the herd instinct to find others be it gelding or mare. If the horse was still on the track or being led off ect ect it would have kept inside the lines as it is possibly trained to do and seen the horse since they are only ever a rough 3-8 minutes behind the next horse. The stallion saw, he went, he introduced himself as stallions do and many others do to bond and create leadership and he stopped. Thank god he didn't go through any crowds and injure anyone as he panicked.

    • @shammydammy2610
      @shammydammy2610 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    To the people saying “they need to train their stallion, etc” the rider very obviously had fallen off. Any horse no matter the gender can take off this just happened to be a stallion and he wasn’t super aggressive and seemed very well behaved to me. Just came to say hi, both the rider and the other horse handled the situation very Well. Unless you train your horse to stand and not move a muscle if you fall off (which is very close to being impossible) then they will probably run off definitely in a xc field. Yes people need to make sure if they’re going to compete their stallion that they need to be well behaved but this one looked very pretty well trained to me. Didn’t act aggressive toward the other people, didn’t attack the other horse, etc.

    honestly my old lease mare is a herd horse and LOVES other horses so whenever she dumped me (which was often) she would either run to the group of lesson horses or run to the fence where the paddock horses are. one of the girls at my barn rode her at a xc show and dumped her at the water and took off to the horse in front of them and this is basically how it also went, except the other horse dumped their rider and they took off together lol so i'd say this stallion and gelding handled it pretty dang well

    Does anyone know what the strap is that the rider clips from her waist(?) to the saddle? You see her unclip it before she gets off and then clip it back on once she remounts.

      Lisa Herron it’s a strap to her vest so if she Falls off her vest will inflate before she hits the ground.

    how long does it take a stallion to tell the difference between a mare in heat, and a gelding doing his job? I understand the danger of a potential scuffle between the horses - the gelding already delivered a little kick to the grey. But is this horsing around, or was the stallion trying to get busy? At any rate the gelding was beautifully behaved!

    • @SaraNightfire1
      @SaraNightfire1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Stallion was trying to mount the gelding, a lot of castrated animals don't have a scent to them. (My neutered male Siberian Husky was mounted by a non-neutered male Golden in the park and the dog wasn't playing nor establishing dominance. That much I can tell you. Also a foal followed a gelding around after leaving his mom thinking it was his mom due to the similar coloring. XDDD...)
      Stallions also usually don't care what sex the horse is as long as it's not another stallion. He didn't care what was going on, all he saw was a horse he could mount and tried to do so.

      +horses_with_wings x if you knew anything about horses then you'd understand stallions mount geldings sometimes, as a act of dominance or the result of hormones. In fact, this is common in the animal kingdom, as any male dog owner will gladly tell you 😂

      Monica Franklin it was more an act of dominance and show. Stallions present themselves often to other males, like they wanna say "Boy, look how georgeous and male I am. I'm stronger than you, so I'm the boss." In this point they can be compared with human boys. This horse's behavior is more playful, not aggressive, so I think the dropping down was only representive

      You can hear the announcer say "Natalie is okay as far as we know" she obviously fell off. And besides you should be able to control your horse in the situation anyways. The show isn't going to give you a penalty for that so its up to you to refocus your horse. If you can't do that maybe it's you that shouldn't be at the show.

      yeah but some stallions can be very smart or like this stallion in the video depending on how you train it. while this one was Very poorly Trained i mean hello! the stallion was dropping down in front of a Gelding? geez i think that Grey stallion will be a Gelding next

  • @smokestacksace

    Great handling of the situation on the gelding and the rider's part!!! Not so much on the stallion's rider/owner. If you feel the need to take a stallion to a show or event, you better be able to control and handle him. If you can't....well that tends to be how people and other horses get hurt.
