The Mann filter ends are polymer foam. I've fitted many of this type of filter to Bora TDI cars and it really is an easy process. Of the ones I've done, you push the new filter into the filter cap and keeping it straight, drop into the oil filter housing and screw it in and tighten to the torque marked on the cap.
When draining the sump oil, remove the old filter before replacing the sump plug so any oil that runs out of the pick up after the filter is removed, can drain out of the sump.
The cartridge filter usually fits in only one way so just note which way the old one was if you're not sure - its very easy to figure it out.
Mahle and Mann are both quality filters. From the two in the video, there seems to be a bigger distance between the outer and inner diameters on the Mann filter so perhaps more filtration area. I also notice a big gap in one of the flutes on the Mahle.
Also have a look at Hengst filters!
Oil grade and specification seems to be a bigger problem to decide on and it really shouldn't be. Simply go to the website of your preferred brand and use the Oil Selector to get the correct oil quoted for your vehicle.
Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. I used Hengst air filter in the past. This year I will buy the air filter for the engine from the Renault dealership, to see if it'll improve the sound of the engine in making it quieter than with the aftermarket filters. also the oil will be true full synthetic Liqui Moly 0W40 this time Synthoil Energy, their best one.

It`s true, Mann filter because of that "paper/ celulose" edge doesnt make a good seal, and if forced when putting it you might brake the edge or at least some cracks in it might apear....which at high pression and high Rpm might by pass the filter...
However Mahle because of how its made, that rubber edge make a good seal and its virtually unbrakeable......
When i changed the Mann filters at my cars ( long time ago) that edge brake everytime very easy when removing it, and it teared apart a part of the filter....after some experiences with these, i stopped using them and switched to Mahle....
You can use virtually any filter, on the condition that they have a rubber edge......for example Champion filters also have a rubber edge and i used them on my wife`s car....
All of this was possible just because of you.

Mann filters are excellent. I’ve never had any problems with them. Mahle are also good. I generally pick from both of these depending on the price of the day.

I use cotton from an old pillow as an air filter, trust me it works and works a lot better than these air filters sold online.
As for oil, I use vegetable oil, £3 for 6 litres and it’s natural and healthy for an engine, if you want premium oil, go for olive oil.
Oil filter is not needed just make a cap so It doesn’t leak.
Pollen filter I use a bunch of socks dipped in aftershave and my God the cabin always smells amazing.
Fuel filter i never change for the life time of the car becz I use Asda & Tesco diesel. Best fuel period!
If you do everything I have listed, you car will last 4.6 billion years, trust me, mine has lasted about that much time.

Nice comparison, but i have to correct some things:
The mann-filter will brake as fast as the mahle. Try to brake the mann filter, and try to brake the mahle. The white rings on the mann-filter are made of fleece, they are making the same as the rubber rings on the mahle which strengthens the filter.
I understand. Here I am talking from the experience of others who used the filter without the rubber ring and had issues installing it without breaking it. So I wanted to be safe than sorrow
@@m3rovingian i understand you. Im in the filter business. So i wonder how i can brake a paper filter by changing it, it is possible but it needs more strength than you will expect.
Anyway I won't go to a mechanic, that has so much sensitivity to brake a filter.
Maybe i will destroy some filters and make a comparison and show up the pro's and con's of each.

fitted a Mann oil filter to a v70 d5...on start up oil light out but screaming from motor!!! after 3 times ...very short...re checked filter spilling oil over clean engine all looked ok ...restated and slight squeel but then running ok...nobody said to soak these before instalation.. anyway using Mann for oil ..fuel ...air...just hope they live up to German Engineering as advertised!!!!

@@m3rovingian You should try. I use originals just because they are not expensive as any other filters. In my old car I used cheap, random filter from nearest parts shop. Can't say that there is any diffrence. Original filters are usually better constructed. Better materials and sometimes springs inside filter.
