Isn’t this a discussion without any benefit.
Both places and in fact the whole country should be safe for women and no exceptions.
You forgot the two crucial socio-cultural aspects...
Mumbai's unique history as a city built by the British for trade, rather than traditional Indian cultural norms, set it apart from other metros. Its origins as a marketplace, centered around the docks, made it a transactional and economy-driven city from the start. This metropolitan and modern identity meant that the social structures common in other cities, which often dictated restrictive roles for women, were less prominent here. The availability of sexual and intimacy services, normalized through the presence of India’s largest red-light district, also played a role in channeling desires and reducing sexual frustration, which likely contributed to fewer instances of public harassment toward women.
Additionally, the Koli women, Mumbai’s original inhabitants, were key figures in shaping the city's progressive attitude towards women in the workforce. As primary sellers of fish, they moved around the city confidently, dressed boldly for their work, and embodied financial independence. Their visible presence in public spaces, without fear or shame, inspired women from upper-caste communities to join the workforce freely. This long-standing culture of economic participation and gender inclusion helped establish Mumbai as a relatively safer and more empowering place for women.
Madras (Fort St George)and Calcutta (Fort William) were also established by the British
Great POV
@@kochuxavierno Chenani and Kolkata cities existed historically even before British came to the cities. They were known ports ...
Mumbai on the other hand was 7 useless islands that were given to the British in Dowry by the Portugese. The British literally filled these islands and made an artificial landmass for the city to be made on.
The point made about power in Delhi is very true. In Delhi, even if a woman is with another man or for that matter a normal man without connections and if they get involved with any incident the other party may be a son of someone powerful or know someone powerful. This is a cultural phenomenon more pronounced in Delhi than other parts of India
For once can we stop this "my crime vs your crime" discussion? Why can't we make the entire country safe for women and children?
What nonsense when you say Bombay men are not different? Men in Bombay grow up in a very liberal environment compared to Delhi. Hence men in Bombay are different and respect spaces of women. Of course there are idiots which you can’t discount
The comfort with which you can issue such blanket statements on upbringing of millions of men makes me so uncomfortable..
Generally on streets of Mumbai there are people.
WoW
Please note Delhi is the capital you say Delhi is unsafe ?who are these people committing crimes ? are they Delhi born ? -check it out every second person in is non Delhi person who is in here for work You cannot change a mindset of people ? Who at his own home has been treated as a superior to his sisters ? No respect for women ? Every city in India is unsafe 😮😮😮
