This is video is a tutorial step-by-step on how to make repurposed used plate and how I made them into broken china glass earrings. I used a used plate from Amazon, and lead-free solder. I scored the glass with a glass pistol grip glass cutter and then chopped the glass with a chopper tool for glass (link below), and then I use my Inland grinder to smooth out the edges.
After that, I clean the glass with glass cleaner so that the copper foil will stick to the glass. I wrap each piece with the copper foil and use a burnishing tool to burnish the foil onto the glass.
Lastly, I solder the foil onto the glass and also attach the jump ring using a third hand and place the open end of the jump ring flush to the glass to have a secure hold. I solder both sides of the jump ring for a long-lasting result.
After you polish the glass with a glass finishing compound after cleaning one last time.
Then I used a finishing compound.
WARNING: If you decide to make stained-glass earrings, you must use Lead-Free solder!

Here are the steps for creating stained glass jewelry using lead-free solder and dichroic glass:
    Step 1: Gathering Materials
Collect all the necessary materials, including glass pieces, lead-free solder, flux, soldering iron, glass cutter, grinder, safety goggles, and a soldering stand.
    Step 2: Designing Your Jewelry
Plan your jewelry design on paper or create a template to follow.
    Step 3: Cutting Dichroic Glass
Using a glass cutter, carefully cut the glass pieces according to your design. Take your time and ensure precise cuts.
    Step 4: Grinding and Shaping
Smooth the edges of the cut glass pieces using a grinder. This step ensures that the edges are safe and smooth to handle.
    Step 5: Applying Flux
Apply a small amount of flux to the edges of the glass pieces. Flux helps the solder adhere to the glass.
    Step 6: Soldering
Place the glass pieces together on a soldering stand in the desired design. Use the soldering iron to melt lead-free solder along the edges.
    Step 7: Cleaning
Once the solder has cooled and solidified, clean your stained glass jewelry using a soft cloth and glass cleaner to remove any residue or flux.
    Step 8: Adding Jewelry Findings
Attach jewelry findings, such as jump rings or earring hooks, to your stained glass creations, making them ready to be worn.
    Step 9: Final Touches
Inspect your jewelry for any rough edges or imperfections, and do any necessary touch-ups with the soldering iron or grinder.
    Step 10: Display and Enjoy
Display your beautifully crafted stained glass jewelry, and proudly wear or share it with others to enjoy your artistic creation!

Se llama tira de refuerzo de cobre para volver a pelar. Estaba leyendo una reseña que decía que un tipo lo usa para hacer biseles. Que eso se verá mejor que la cinta de aluminio, creo. Why is black back copper foil used for this project? I have a copper foil stash used for stained glass. As I recall, the foil appears the same on both sides after the adhesive strip is removed. What is the functional difference between the two types of copper foils?

    • @AshleysBlissfulCreations
      @AshleysBlissfulCreations  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

I usually black patina on a lot of projects so that’s why I used black back copper foil because it was what I’ve been using already. You can use the normal copper foil made for stained glass. I should specify that in the description.

    • @AshleysBlissfulCreations
      @AshleysBlissfulCreations  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Here is an explanation I found:
“In stained glass work, the difference between black-backed copper foil and normal (typically clear-backed) copper foil lies mainly in the aesthetic finish and the specific application needs. Here’s a detailed comparison:
      1. **Aesthetic Appearance**:
      - **Black-Backed Copper Foil**: This type of foil has a black adhesive backing, which is especially useful when the solder lines in the stained glass piece will be treated with a dark patina (black or dark copper). The black backing helps blend the edges of the glass with the dark solder lines, creating a more seamless and polished look.
      - **Normal Copper Foil (Clear-Backed)**: This foil has a transparent adhesive backing. It's suitable for use when the solder lines will remain silver or will be patinated to a lighter color, as it allows the color of the glass to show through more naturally at the edges.
      2. **Application and Use**:
      - **Black-Backed Copper Foil**: Ideal for projects where the final appearance will have dark lines, as it minimizes the visibility of any gaps or overlaps between the foil and the solder lines.
      - **Normal Copper Foil (Clear-Backed)**: Versatile for general use, especially when the project doesn't require dark patina or when a lighter appearance at the edges is preferred.
      3. **Visibility through Glass**:
      - **Black-Backed Copper Foil**: This foil is less noticeable through the glass, especially when using dark or opaque glass. It can prevent the edges of clear or light-colored glass pieces from appearing stark or overly visible.
      - **Normal Copper Foil (Clear-Backed)**: More likely to show through clear or translucent glass, which might be desirable depending on the design and the intended look of the finished piece.
      4. **Finish Consistency**:
      - **Black-Backed Copper Foil**: Helps achieve a uniform finish when dark patina is used on the solder, ensuring that the color and texture appear consistent across the entire piece.
      - **Normal Copper Foil (Clear-Backed)**: Offers a clean and bright edge when the solder remains silver or is given a light patina, maintaining a consistent, lighter look.
Choosing between black-backed and normal copper foil depends largely on the intended aesthetic of your stained glass project and how you plan to finish the solder lines. For a seamless dark finish, black-backed copper foil is preferable, while for a lighter or silver finish, normal copper foil is typically the better choice.”
      Hope this helps
