Using paste flux prevents it from seeping between the 2 pieces of glass. Also, if your tape is too wide, cutting it before you remove the backing is much easier. :)
Hi Vanessa, Thank you so much for mentioning me and my book Journal Bliss in the Stampington newsletter last week. I really appreciate it - i'm thrilled that you created some background papers using my techniques! Love, Violette
Wow I noticed 22 people have given this video a thumbs down review. This just goes to show you it is impossible to please everyone. I thought the video was amazing. I haven't soldered in a long time and was looking for a brush up. The video touched on all aspects of soldering to complete a pendent. The scrollwork was awesome! Thank you so much for taking the time to make the video! I love your company! Can you tell me what type of wire I need to use for the scrollwork? Also my iron is not hot enough to melt the solder (Silvergleem) I'm using. Can you recommend an iron to buy? I was really wanting to make a charm bracelet today. Thank you, Laurie
I visited the link, and I can't find your kit. I googled around for it, hoping I could find a picture of it like the one at the end of the video to click to find a way to buy it.
Thanks so much for the added tips. I had tried my hand at making these charms and had some really bad seepage, so I tossed everything in a box and set it aside quite some time ago. Ready to try it again with the proper flux for the job! Thanks again!
Hi Lorri, Unfortunately, we no longer sell this particular kit, but you can find all of our other soldering and jewelry making supplies here: stampington.com/the-shoppe-at-somerset/jewelry-making/jewelry-making-soldering-supplies Thank you!
Hi Angela, I am sorry to say that the Simply Swank Soldering Kit has sold out, and unfortunately the vendor discontinued this item, so we are unable to get more into our store. I have added two links to the description that will lead you to the soldering supplies that we do still carry on our website (they won't let me put links in my comment), so I hope this helps and you can find what you are looking for. Best, Stampington & Company
I had not seen flux in a nailpolish bottle before--that is clever and very user friendly that way. This is a very good video! Where can I find the flux in that bottle? Ohh--I like the kit you show at the end!
Very cool, where can i find what I need to do what you did? I have an idea I would like to try with the copper tape. Where can I find it? Thanks. Oh I see at the end you share where to fing the kit.
Great video, Vanessa:) Need advice: I have to make some fairy wings. Have a solder gun, flux, copper wire, and craft wire, but don't know if solder will hold the joints on craft wire. Have you tried to copper foil craft wire? Advice? Suggestions? Maybe I'm making this too hard, but new to soldering.
What kind of surface are you working on. It looks like a paper surface. If so is it a flame retardant surface. Thanks. By the way this video is a much easier technique than the ones I have seen previously. Is some tutorials, they stress to not touch the soldering iron to the item, but just let it hover over it as you unwind the solder. You system seems a lot easier to maneuver. Thanks again.
Is the kit you used in this video no longer available? I went to your website/shop and could not find it. Thank you for sharing this great video on soldering. Can you tell me if I were using a piece of china/ceramic plate...would I still need to use the foil tape or just the flux and solder? Thank you
What kind of flux do you use before applying the solder? I have been looking for one you paint on right before soldering like you are doing but the flux I keep seeing needs to be heated with a torch
Please don't waste your money on kits like this. Go to your local stained glass studio/supply (or order online) and you will get much more material for your projects at much more reasonable prices. The adhesive back copper foil tape comes in MUCH larger rolls, solder (lead free or jewelry grade, please!), flux, polish and tinned wire are all much more affordable unless you are only making one piece of jewelry. Also, PLEASE don't use glue-on bails as some of these craft videos! They make your pieces look cheap and mass-produced. Solder on a loop of wire, or other attachment point. It makes a stronger, more unique and attractive finishing touch.
Hi there! I love this! I tried to make this but my solder doesn't stick at all. What kind of soldering iron you using? Mine is 15volt. Is that ok? Megan
Hi Susan, The wire scrolls we used in this project are made by Simply Solder. They’re called Swirl Solder Scrolls, and they are pre-made so we're not certain what kind of wire they used. Unfortunately, they have been discontinued from The Shoppe at Somerset, but it looks like PolymerClay Express might still carry them: www.polymerclayexpress.com/products/paper-arts/simply-solder/simply-solder-swirl-solder-scrolls. We hope this helps!
Why is it necessary to use the copper foil tape? I want to solder a one piece item and just paint the flux on and solder. Does the copper tape make it stronger? Or is it used to just keep the pieces together?
Hi, the foil tape does add a bit of strength to the piece and is advised when connecting two pieces. However, the video uses the tape because it is part of the kit. If soldering only one piece, you can paint the flux on and solder.
I was inspired by your video but what is the thickness of the glass? I notice it is a lot thinner then normal glass. Any suggestions where I can buy it? Thanks
On ebay, search for "microscope slides". Just make sure you get the empty ones (some come prepared for schools and have items already on them (bugs, grass, etc.) also, in your search you will see different sizes of slides. Some people sell 1" x 1", 2" x 1", etc.
Hi Deborah, Unfortunately, this kit was discontinued by the vendor years ago. We were never able to find a good replacement/alternative to it, although it might be possible to purchase some of the supplies separately by searching for them online. Best, Jordan The Stampington & Company Team
o gawd im so releived to see that your useing lead free solder ,you really need to stress the fact that lead solder is veryyy dangerous to substitute . it can cause a large range of health issues
Using paste flux prevents it from seeping between the 2 pieces of glass. Also, if your tape is too wide, cutting it before you remove the backing is much easier. :)
It’s been decades since I soldered and thought it would be a way to broaden my project output. Thanks for the refresher lesson 😍

people are idiots. she is pleasantly, generously offering her help.
Love this video! One of the best I've seen since I'm learning how to solder jewelry. Thank you!
I just purchased most of these things to make jewelry. I am so excited.
Thanks so much for the added tips. I had tried my hand at making these charms and had some really bad seepage, so I tossed everything in a box and set it aside quite some time ago. Ready to try it again with the proper flux for the job! Thanks again!
Wonderful tutorial! Thank you for sharing! ❤️
Very informative, love the final product
Thanks heaps, you have given me exactly what i wanted. The basics i need to begin the soldering chapter in my book of life ..woo hoo
Its too bad this kit is not available anymore. Its great for beginners and small projects like this.

I took a class for this technique. A little solder goes a long way and this takes practice. It isn't as easy as it looks.
Hi, Thank you for sharing with me. Very interesting information to use. I like very much.

Where can I purchase this kit? I love it! I looked on your site but do not see it. Is it discontinued?

Do a sample test and see what happens!
Hello,i like your video..can you recommend me what kind of iron i should use to melt the silvergleem solder? 💕
where do you get the small glass pieces?
Where is the doddering pen and flux and wire I can order??
What kind of surface are you working on. It looks like a paper surface. If so is it a flame retardant surface. Thanks. I'm currently working on soldered pieces. It's harder than it looks. It's getting the technique down. I'll keep you posted. Wish me luck.
Crystel Cabrera .
this is a great tutorial lthanks for sharing :))))
can you solder directly onto ceramic or would it just crack from the heat?
Do you do actual metal double glass locket pendants? Thank you
Is the kit you used in this video no longer available? I went to your website/shop and could not find it. Thank you for sharing this great video on soldering. Can you tell me if I were using a piece of china/ceramic plate...would I still need to use the foil tape or just the flux and solder? Thank you
You still need the copper foil, as the solder won't stick to just glass. :)
Can you tell me where you can find that solder kit? We have searched for copper tape EVERYWHERE and have never come across this kind!! Thx
What kind of flux do you use before applying the solder? I have been looking for one you paint on right before soldering like you are doing but the flux I keep seeing needs to be heated with a torch
Lead free is SAC305 one?
How do you keep the flux from leaching inside on to the paper? Is that why you so only one side at a time?
Hi I'd love to buy a kit but your store doesn't have them anymore, nor any of the individual parts. Do you have an idea where else i could get one?

pro tips!
Is this kit still available? I’m not seeing it on your site. Thanks
Hi - I can't seem to find where to buy this kit to start with? Where on the stampington site is it please?
Can you please tell me what that surface you are working on is?
I could not find this kit only the solder iron
what kind of solder is this? im using a torch with silver solder chips on silver metal.
Wait, why take a blade to cut off the extra copper foil instead of just using narrower tape? It comes in a bunch of widths.
Hi there!
I love this! I tried to make this but my solder doesn't stick at all.
What kind of soldering iron you using? Mine is 15volt. Is that ok?
Megan
Well it does stick.. but it's not pretty. I want it to be very flat. :(
What type of flux is that? Where can I buy it?
What kind of wire are you using for your secondary scrolls???

can I buy one of these kits in the UK??
I was inspired by your video but what is the thickness of the glass? I notice it is a lot thinner then normal glass. Any suggestions where I can buy it? Thanks
In this video, we are using glass slides, available here: stampington.com/Glass-slides-1-x-3-Pack-of-10

is the solder non toxic ??
I see it's been 7 years since someone's posted here. I can't find the kit, can you tell me where I can buy one.
