    "Give your dogs a treat to get yourself 3 minutes of time to concentrate..." I know this feeling all to well, lol. Awesome video, I have been considering getting a dehydrator for awhile now and I am getting close to pulling the trigger. Are you still dehydrating your own meals and if so using the same dehydrator?

    • @BackcountryPaddler
      @BackcountryPaddler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, definitely still use it and love it. Adding the plastic trays makes all the difference.. making it super easy!

    Dehydrated chilli is a main stay for canoe trippers! I like the idea with the brown rice added to it. We often just put the chilli on top of rice, cool! Thanks for sharing your grandmother's recipe!

    Fun video, cute dogs and sweet partner, and very informative. Thank you so much. I'll be making my chili this week as I prepare for a ten day hike in the San Juan Mountains. I'm not sure if that is a doable location for you, but if you ever have an opportunity to hike in Colorado, check out the area along the Dolores River and Priest Gulch. Happy hiking and be safe!

      @@BackcountryPaddler Thank you so much!! I'm getting my tent ready and doing a supply check-list. It's always exciting to leave this fast pace life behind for a little while. San Juan Mountains are over a million acres with many trails from moderate, to kick you butt challenging. Be safe out there in these strange times and prep food and supplies. My husband and I are farmers in Nebraska and the future looks to be a bit bleak. Take care and be safe and enjoy the beautiful outdoors.

    Love it! Makes me want to make it, eat it, and dehydrate it! I like the addition of rice. Great explanation and humor. How much water do you use to rehydrate (ratio)? Does it need to be boiling?

    • @BackcountryPaddler
      @BackcountryPaddler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly, when I rehydrate chili I just eyeball the amount of water and boil it first before adding the chili. I then let it sit 20 minutes or so, and drain any excess water if there is any.

    Super video man! After camping out a few nights with a bear canister this summer I am making adjustments and this is going to be one of them! Those Mt House meals and their associated packages are just a no-go anymore! The pouches are too big and the corners poke holes in the canister liner bags :-(. I had thought about breaking down the packages into zip lock bags and then I said ..... Im just going to make my own meals and put them in zip zocks instead. I also bought the new 28oz hydroflask insulated food container even though it weighs a pound. This will give me the perfect re-constituting bowl! I no longer need my pouch koozie and it will give me another storage vessel AND I will get rid of all the bulky meal pouches!!

    • @BackcountryPaddler
      @BackcountryPaddler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dehydrating your own meals is definitely the way to go! It saves money and tastes better. Plus like you said, you'll save on weight and bulkiness. I think you have a good plan in place!! I will have to check out that Hydroflask too.. Thanks for commenting!
