    I love to do road trips that involve camping and spending as little money as possible. This year I am going to try to dehydrate my own meals and use my jet boil to rehydrate and this just boosted my confidence in the idea so thank you very much for this!

    This is super convenient... I'm actually just about to go to Walmart to grab all the things to make chili and then dehydrate it later 😂. Cheers !

    That is a really really well done video Jay. Your camera and editing work are top notch! Do you find that your ground beef comes back to life alright? Every time Ashley and I dehydrate ground beef we find it stays kind of like gravel. Looks awesome though. Also wondering what pot lifter you have. We are due for a new one and that one you are using looks pretty solid. Thanks for posting Jay

      Thanks for watching! I'm just using the pot lifter that came with my Coleman cook set, seems to hold up well.... Ground beef will never be perfect but after rehydrating, I find it's very edible and wouldn't turn down seconds. Credit goes to Kevin Outdoors for sharing his tips, check him out!

    Excellent video, thanks! Really liked the editing. Did you also dehydrate the cheese? Thinking that has fat so it won't store that well (unless frozen)?

    • @jaysway2346
      @jaysway2346  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! Dehydrating cheese doesn't work for long term storage, the cheese I used was a prepackaged freeze dried cheddar to cut down on weight. I also found that most cheese can keep without refrigerating for a few day's as well.

      @@jaysway2346 Ah ok. I'll have to see if such a cheese exists here in Europe. They're very big on "authentic" cheeses. We often go for weeks at a time to the boreal forest of Scandinavia where we live. That can be very warm during late summer - thus the search for a dehydrated cheese which lasts. Appreciate the quick reply and I'm looking forward to experimenting with making our own dehydrated food and cutting down on the expense of commercial meals.

    Excellent, thanks for the vid. Does this make much difference to the longevity of the food? Is it worth doing anyway for home use, for example?

    • @jaysway2346
      @jaysway2346  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of my food prep is done over the winter to prepare for open water camping and reduce the weight. If the intent is for home use, I think the only benefit would be to keep your beef for a longer time if no freezer is available.

    How much water do you add? Or simply 'wing it'

    • @jaysway2346
      @jaysway2346  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I put 1 cup of water for this batch.

    Where did you get the water if you carried it with you dehydrating your chili was pointless

    • @jaysway2346
      @jaysway2346  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Boil the lake water Michael, you're absolutely right, carrying the water where I camp would be pointless. If you're in an area with no water, dehydrating extends the shelf life with no refrigerating.

    The music was 💩, the video was supposed to be about dehydrating chili not how to cook chili, great video editing but the audio was totally 💩! Nothing personal just a opinion of what I was looking for,,

    So.just a few seconds in I heard you say “beans” in the same sentence as chili?? That’s Not chili, that’s spicy meat and beans. For the record chili has NO beans. Just saying.
