I remember my grandpa singing that song when I was barely five years old. In fact he told me the story of the boll weevil, and its destructive power over cotton and the farmer. There is a statue of the boll weevil in a small town in Alabama. Enterprise, Alabama.
When I get to heaven, I'm gonna ask The Lord if I can see the great Tex Ritter and I will ask him to play this song and Rye Whisky and High Noon before moving on.
I'm a setting in Texas looking at one of these bugs earlier thinking it was cute now I I found out what it is and I'm thinking wow you just about broke the American cotton industry!
I believe it came off of the RFD Channel. A friend who shared it with me gets that on satellite dish. Not sure which dish company. My cable doesn't carry it OR CMT.
Had farmer thrown a few rows of fine Cannabis Indica in the back 40, none of this would have been a problem. Farmer would'a had a mighty fine cash crop, and ol' weevil woulda been too high to eat all the cotton up.

one of my dad's all-time favorites.
this is what you call real country music....
I'm a bollweevil and I'm still looking for a home
Tex Ritter's son is John Ritter of the tv show Three's Company.
Tex’s grandson Jason was also the voice of Dipper from a Disney animated show called Gravity Falls.
When I get to heaven, I'm gonna ask The Lord if I can see the great Tex Ritter and I will ask him to play this song and Rye Whisky and High Noon before moving on.
Yes, I dreamed I was in hilly Billy heaven , oh eat wonderfully sight !
I think you’ll be in a very long queue that will just keep extending!
Me too..
@@chrisrattray8958 hahahaha
I think that between you and me, Tex might get a lot of work in heaven.
One of the greatest! No wonder why his son John was such a hit on TV. Both shared a sense of humour that was infectious.
As a former cotton farmer, I feel this. After I went broke, I was looking for a home.😹

Me to Don't make much money working cotton and it's hot work
@@matthewlivermanne4441 Lots of pesticides go into those fields too. One of the most heavily crop-planed here in Louisiana, I am told.

Any else notice the guitar player (next to the banjo player) with the mangled hand missing 3 fingers?
What year would this be?
The man from from Tenaha, Timpson, Bobo and Blair!
Awesome
Country man
Does anyone know who the violinist is? He's playing right-handed
My guess is that it"s Joe Holley.....
One of these days I will find the time to decode this song...until then ,,,hmmm
Where is mant an Moreland on this song
This song is so good but messed up in many ways because it's true...
A Classic
I'm still looking for a home
It looks legit live but I found it hard to believe because I couldn't see the mic. Bob Barker's has nothing on this one. Beauty track
Its the skinny mic stand in front of Tex's guitar.
@@michaelacosta3233 That or it could be a microphone drop down located above them like they use in the movies.
In front of Tex's guitar
@@jeffjohnson1302I just didn't know that they had Fisher Price microphones back in the Tex Ritter days, is all
You’d be surprised what kind of sound you can capture with one microphone.
Hi
what tv show is this from
I believe it came off of the RFD Channel. A friend who shared it with me gets that on satellite dish. Not sure which dish company. My cable doesn't carry it OR CMT.
Luke Johnson it's not off a show u grew up with it's from 1920's
I bet it was Town Hall Party that Tex Ritter hosted from 1953 - 1960.
I found an episode from 1957 called Ranch Party that was filmed at the Town Hall......search TH-cam. 🙂
Not from a TV show, however Tex did host the musical West Coast show Ranch Party.

Eddie Cochran's version is the tops!
You realize Tex wasn't singing JUST about the boll weevil BUG?This illegal immigration fight has been going on for THAT long!

Am I the only one noticing the guitar players wierd hand?
I like Tex Ritter but Brooke Benton did a better version of this song.
So did Eddie Cochran.
Is it just me, it's seems like Tex is trying to hard to sound like a black blues singer.

Brooke Benton version better.
Brook Benton ----sings soooo much better.
Prefer Eddie Cockran🙂
