This song managed to condense a book that would take me a week to read and a movie that would take me two hours to watch into about five minutes of enjoyment. Absolute legend.
How I miss real country music, like Marty Robbins, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Johnny Cash, to name a few. El Paso is an amazing song, written and sung by amazing Marty Robbins. It's so sad to lose so many of the great singers of the 60's, 70's and 80's. I'm not really into today's country music; it's just the not the same. I also love "My Woman, My Woman, My Wife." It brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. RIP Marty Robbins.
Try George McAnthony. It was a singer from my zone, did a kind of country that was unique to him. Sadly he passed away too. Try it and tell me if you liked :)
I so agree with you about that last Marty Robbins song. Just hearing it in my head right now makes me almost tear up. Marty was one of the best. I listen to classing Country/Western music on SXM radio in my car sometimes. The “western” part has been dropped -
Unbelievable live performance. No tricks, no gimmicks, no "enhanced" vocals, just sheer talent. Love Marty's guitar playing and his singing is exquisite. Super trio harmonies and what else do you want?!!!!
Not as simple. This was a staged performance on film. Marty Robbins is not playing the Mexican Guitar and I have serious doubts he is actually singing. There are just not enough live action and it sounds exactly like the recorded track. I'm just saying because I play guitar and nothing live from music to vocals ever sounds exactly the same as the recorded track that you here on the radio or albums. On this song clearly Marty Robbins is playing rythem guitar and making a show of it for the Camara. Then you have the Mexican or Spanish guitar with individual notes playing the lead. Just watch it and listen again. Not to mention the lead sounds more like softer sounds of vinyl strings instead of metal.
@@daveweed2765: You might play the guitar but I have worked in the music business for several decades as a writer, performer, singer and musician and have been involved in video production, editing and arranging and I can assure you this video is NOT lip-synched to the original recording - in fact it doesn’t sound anything like it in terms of either vocal or instrumental tonality. Anyone experienced in music production can see at a glance that this is a genuine live performance, something Mr Robbins was extremely good at. And btw, the guitar off screen in this video is normally described as a Spanish guitar or a classical guitar and the strings are made of nylon, not vinyl.
My 30-year-old cousin sings this song so beautifully. Our grandpa loved Marty Robbin’s and Jake always sang it for him. Birthday, final goodbyes, funeral, and at graveside surrounded by family. This song is beautiful and has so much meaning in my heart.

It’s the song that put El Paso on the map. Sadly the powers that be in El Paso have no clue in how to honor him for the recognition he brought to El Paso. With all the highway and road construction going on in the city is a perfect time to name a new road or street after him. Why Lee Trevino has a major street named after him is a mystery. He’s from Dallas and never claimed otherwise

This song is like a can of condensed milk for once you listen to it then it becomes sweeter and sweeter each time and you keep on coming back for more, I’m glad my brother and father used to play these songs for me as a boy here in Jamaica 🇯🇲 a proud Jamaican cowboy
I remember watching this live with my Dad in 1964 on a black and white TV. Dad had a great trained bass voice and sang that song for years after that. I learned to play it on my guitar and played it for him on his 70th birthday 2 years before he died in March of 2000. He sang it with me. I'm 70 now! Great memories.
My dad played this song when I was younger. He did a good job on this song. He was a good flat top guitar picker with runs and hammer's. I miss him and his playing.
I will always love this nostalgic song ❤My brothers and I would look forward for the weekends and sat down in the living room in front of our 1973 RCA Record Console and my dad would play this song like 3 times in a row ..I was around 9 yrs old . This song would make me get teary .❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was raised on 60's/70's rock music, not country & don't remember where or when I first heard this song. Tragi, haunting, the type that stays with you. A "story"song that you can almost picture scenes in your mind. This is one where you still hope he'll make it OK,even as you know his sad ending. A classic.
Marty Robbins has voice that you just can't stop listening to. I love this song. Great memories. Rest in peace. I miss you! .... from Fort Worth, Texas
I have to give props to Marty Robbins as this has to be the best western ballad ever written. What surprises me is that this song was a big hit starting in 1959 and to the best of my knowledge Hollywood has not yet made a movie based on this song. I mean, this song dictates a full movie plot easily from start to finish and all a screen writer has to do is fill in the dialogue. I can already imagine all the scenes...cowboy meets Feleena at Rosa's Cantina and pursues her for awhile but she's just too much of a flirt. One night the cowboy finally loses his patience and in a jealous rage shoots a rival suitor. The whirlwind escape, hiding out for awhile, finally giving in to the overwhelming desire to see Feleena again, the desperate ride in, the final shootout, and he dies in her arms... jesus, I swear the hit movie is all there. Honestly, I'll write the script myself if someone wants to make this move!!!
I know... Hollywood just does remakes and reboots of old ideas... I can't believe this hasn't been made into a movie. I can picture a young Clint Eastwood doing it.
This is my family's favorite song. My grandpa had Alzheimer's and he sang El Paso right before he passed away. He remembered every word and sang it so beautiful.

Genius?? No he wasn’t. Lol
I chose my very first NICU Travel RN assignment to EL Paso, TX to Las Palmas Medical Center because of this song. I lived in El Paso for a year and a half. Yes I searched for "Rosas Cantina"
Einer meiner ersten Countrysongs, die mich faszinieren.
There’s a rabbit hole to go down if you really look
All magical music from Marty. His voice became better with age. How can that be? Lierally the best music ever created.
I spent two years in the Army in El Paso, this song reminds me my time there. How I wish I could turn the clock back.
Hello how are you doing today…?
Always loved this song ever since I was a kid, still a great one to listen to!
My birthday, 10 yrs old in 1960 - asked for and received this song, my first 45 rpm record! I still have it :)
Marty Robbins was the absolute best cowboy ballad singer ever produced by this country--no one will ever compare.
Absolutely correct.
Habe den Song einmal im Radio gehört - seitdem geht er mir nicht mehr aus dem Kopf! Superscheibe!
Ive loved this since I was little back in the 60’s
Me too!! I always thought it was an old old song from the 1900s.... little did i suspect it was a Brand New Marty Robbins creation!!
Ich hörte diesen Song mit meiner Schwester immer wieder. Schönste Jugenderinnerungen❤
This song reminds me of my brother who passed many years ago, this was his favourite song

I've always loved this beautiful song. It definitely reveals some of Texas finest history.
He actually painted a picture for you to see in your mind as he sung !!!❤️
I was born in El Paso in 65. I always loved this song. RIP Marty Robbins! RIP...
I'm 15, turning 16 in a few months and this is one of my favorite songs. I much prefer to listen to this than the garbage they play on the radio nowadays. Marty Robbins is a legend.
I miss "story time" songs like this one. Glad that these are preserved and readily accessible. Yodel from Canada.
My army pal loved country and western and played Marty Robins all the time. Years later I realised that this music is timeless.
Hello Connie 👋 how are you ??
I was raised on 60's/70's rock music, not country & don't remember where or when I first heard this song. Tragi, haunting, the type that stays with you. A "story"song that you can almost picture scenes in your mind. This is one where you still hope he'll make it OK,even as you know his sad ending. A classic.
One of my late father's favourite song's, reminds me of taking family trips in the car. Good time's. Great song. Rip dad. Til we meet again 🍻
Love this guy, I seen him live when I was in the Army, sgt Mario abalos
Marty Robbins has voice that you just can't stop listening to. I love this song. Great memories. Rest in peace. I miss you! .... from Fort Worth, Texas
I remember Bob and Peggy who knew Marty Robbins and many a night I was at their house listening to the autographed records , I miss you both.
This has been my all time favorite song since I heard it on the radio in my daddy's old red Ford over 60 years ago!
I’m in! I got a stunt horse who’s broke to gunfire too!
Husband beloved died of cancer and loved this song - we visited some States of USA before
This is my family's favorite song. My grandpa had Alzheimer's and he sang El Paso right before he passed away. He remembered every word and sang it so beautiful.
