All these years and he still starts the video with: "Hey everybody it's Mark Crilley, I'm back with another how to draw video." And ends it with: "Let's go ahead and lay down this pencil. Thank you for watching this video and all be back with another one....real soon" I LOVE THIS SO MUCH
As you've said in the past Mark, "Eyebrows are the unsung heroes of facial expressions". The way you curve your lines is so well executed. Thanks for the vid!
it's been so long since I watched one of your videos! It's like coming home after being away for a while, things feel like the same as when I left: the blushies, the way you react to a word that doesn't sound quite right, the beautiful artwork. Glad you're still making these videos, really fun to watch :)
Bonus Tip: The angle of the head/where the chin is pointing and the direction of where the character is looking can help push the expression, as well as the position of the eyelids.
Yeah, an important thing to remember is that the expression can’t do all the work, the right body language can make or break the conveyance of the emotion
I love that your advice and techniques can be applied to many different styles of art. Like I draw in a more semi realistic pin up style and I love your videos for learning things and expanding my artistic talents.
Came back on this channel on a whim and my goodness it’s like nothing has changed!! It’s been a good five or six years since I last watched these videos and I just have to say thank you for letting young high school me improve so much. I’m now at a point where I’m being encouraged to take art commissions and (hopefully) take it up professionally. Your videos were always the highlight of my week! Gonna keep watching again from now on :)
I have waited so long for this specific tutorial. Ty so much! I like the layout and it’s a good idea for reference on OC’s later in your storylines. I have struggled with this greatly.
Love how u explain the difference ways u could do each face it's something a lot of us need to work on I myself have been thinking of doing a practice of different emotions so this is very helpful
If you bring eye lids down you could even make the emotions of bored or even tired. Of course depending on eyebrows and mouth but they play huge roles.
Depends on the context. Is the character stoic or a flustered mess? How comedic do you want the scene to be? How much do you want to increase the moe factor? These factors and more can effect whether you may want a few lines on the apples of the cheeks or hatch up the whole face and even the tips of the ears.
My only complaint sir. Is that the bottom of the eye. The lower eyelid is essential in creating emotions. When I determine in a social setting whether someone is fake smiling or not is not by looking at their eyebrows. They’re good at controlling that, nor their mouths. But their lower eyelids. Maybe you could’ve customized each of the eyes
I have a question to ask you Mark, All of my artwork(even non-manga, like school projects and stuff) are really small. Should I be practicing drawing big or is drawing small O.K?
I do the same thing but I've noticed that more detail is or shading comes into the larger drawings because the plains or surfaces of a face are larger so more detail is necessary. Just me. I am challenging mystery to draw bigger and become a more diversified artist. So up to you and what you're goals are. Do what makes you happy.
You should do a Webcomic just to have fun anyone can publish Edit:Lol Squenching.... I am typing as I go, brb Edit2:Yea and if you added the right lighting the face also is more conceivable. Edit3: alright cya
Another important thing to remember is that body language is crucial to conveying emotion. I understand that all the poses were identical for the sake of demonstration, but some of the emotions were lost because, though she looked sad/scared/etc, she wasn’t acting like it.

Yeahhh.. 😌

Thank you.
Same.
Except I draw smug
Now I do rage
Now I’m learning sad.

2:36 "looks weird because you've gone maybe a little too far you've gone beyond human anatomy"
Pokémon: *I beg your pardon*
Im dead 😂😂😂
When you wonder why all your paintings have blushies and then you realize the paint is Acrilleyc...
The fear expression is just the face of someone who dropped an open bag of chips on the carpet

Man I never really appreciated how EXTREMELY good you are
Mark, just wanna say I love your art style!
Great tutorial. Says a lot about what people really see when they look at someone. Thank you Mark.
perfect timing lol, I've just been working on trying to dial in my characters' facial expressions
Hey, I just found your channel a few days ago and it looks amazing! I'm an aspiring comic book artist! Thanks for creating these videos!
You have just joined a new world. Welcome to mark crilley and his blushies xD

Just started doing a webcomic and this video is really helpful, thanks Mark!!!

*"Hey, I'm Squanching in here!"*
Your Vids are just the best! Even in 2022 xD
I drew dragonballz for my entire childhood and now 90% of my drawings are angry.
Lol😂
I keep finding myself making the expressions as he draws them and its hilarious XD
Love how u explain the difference ways u could do each face it's something a lot of us need to work on I myself have been thinking of doing a practice of different emotions so this is very helpful
"If I did want to have her sad to the point of tears, I would still try to keep it... subtle." - Mark Crilley
Folower from Sweden i got your mastering manga books now and they are reley good and nice books.
yeees! just when as I was going to tackle expressions. Thank you!!
Hey Mark! This is awesome! Thank you much!
By any chance could you could give me some tips on how to come up with cover art for manga?
If you bring eye lids down you could even make the emotions of bored or even tired. Of course depending on eyebrows and mouth but they play huge roles.
I will use these in portrait drawings. Thanks😌
Just went straight from here to Amazon and bought your faces book. 😃
I lost this channel 5 years ago and here I am and I'm getting nostalgic it makes me want to draw again
Good..... Хорошо
This really amazzing I needed this sooo bad ❤❤❤
very cool drawing as an artist to an artist)))
A video on how to do a fade hairstyle??
Sir please make a video of expression with colouring
The tiny things in art make the biggest difference. O_O
Middle ones are my favorite
I do enjoy the squantifications.
I'd love to see those Cartoonish Expressions... not necessarily on chibis. Thanks a lot, as always, very helpful.
I always love your videos! ❤️
Blush is the most important thing on your drawing, 10% emotion, 90% blush
These are my expressions while i am in examination hall
Awesome video! !
Very most excellent. Thank you. 🙏✏️👍✏️🙏
When’s the next Crilley graphic novel coming out??
I need to know, if it hasn't been covered yet, what is the correct amount of lines/dashes for optimal blushy application?

@@cheyenneoliver5184 You are an expert.
@@pivotchampion Search up "Blushies" and Mark's done a video all about it. ^^
I miss the Q&A and topic videos 😞
the lesson i learned is that the tinyist line can change the whole drawing
OMG thanks so much I’m so addicted to drawing anime 😂
that was fascinating!

очень крутой рисунок как художник художнику)))
Mark, are you working in a new book?
I was wondering if you had ever thought about how you might make a chibi look more adult or even elderly. I suppose it is a bit of a style clash...
This are some good tips
My favorite one is the mischievous look
I was just wondering if, in a future video, you could draw Yugi from Yu-Gi-Oh?
Quite decent
Emotionless face? *Thinks of Yuki Nagato*
Aw Nevermind, he put smile there. Yuki never smile xD except in Disappearance of HS
Why do i making the expression he draw?
What will you do for #300 I wonder? :)
It’s been a while

U are best for me 😀
Try drawing faces expression with alittle more realistic
I tend to believe its all in the eye shape and the eyebrows ^_^
You haven’t drawn angry until you’ve drawn angry Goku.
For a real life example of the shocked face, watch a live stream of Canadian Guy Eh’s and wait for someone to donate $20 or more...
Wow, that's so cool.~^^
Awe. I was hoping for relief! !!

😍😍😍😍
That eraser on your pencil is SO terrible! I've given up on those nub ones, i just pull them off everytime i get one. haha
You drew the same face 6 times?😮
Most likely drew it once, scanned it in, copied and pasted then printed out the 6 faces.
@@squishysam that sounds like a lot of work?
Honestly the last one is more concerned looking I’d say 🤔
Dang :v
Boiii
And then theres ahego faces.
