  • Ok, the other half did the filming and filmed everywhere except where I wanted.
    This is me replacing my fork seals on my 2005 FZ6.
    I suppose that there are good ways and bad ways to change fork seals, everyone has there own way, this is my way and may be different to how other people do it.
    Hope it is helpful or entertaining.
    If you have a go yourself I suggest that you get a workshop manual and follow the instructions from that.

    FZ6 07. I just did this repair and learned three things. 1) The split spacer that drops in before the seal must be forced into place to permit the seal to be properly installed with the retainer. 2) The best way to force the spacer and the seal home is a 14" piece of 3" ABS pipe cut lengthwise and held squeezed around the pipe. It is the perfect thickness to avoid damaging the seal and by putting a piece of wood across the top of the rig you can gently tap everything down evenly. 3) loosen the top cap and bottom hex bolt while still on the bike. That way you aren't trying to clamp or damage the pipe fighting to loosen them in the shop. A pretty easy repair once you have a plan.

    Great vid, are they progressive springs man? or Oem, I just got race tech springs for my weight and they are linear.

    Funny you just posted this, wanted to verify the spring direction real quick since I just did mine. The springs came out with small coils down like yours, but the manual says to install with the small coils up. I installed with small coils up and it doesn't feel right. Will go back and install small coils down and see if that was the issue. I don't know why the manual says to do small coils up, literally every other place I've looked it's small coils down. Thanks for the video!

    Mr. Parker, Brilliant video. Its nice and easy. Thank you for that.
    Jason, I would like to hear your opinion on how to drain the fork oil. Do you think its better to take the fork out and turn it upside down and drain it this way or simply remove the top cap and bottom screw to drain the oil while its on the bike? I'm a DIY man cant afford service. Thanks ahead for your advice

      Hi, I don't you think you will be able to remove the bottom bolt whilst the front wheel is on so you'll need to jack up the bike first and remove the wheel.
      so if the wheel has been removed and the bike has been jacked up then does it make sense to remove the fork and give it a good clean?
      Plus if you remove the bottom bolt you may struggle to get it back in, I would personally remove the whole fork and then just turn it upside down without interfering with the bottom bolt :-) you can then sort of wank the fork to get any extra oil out that has been left in, I also pour some turps in and swish it around then drain that before putting new oil in, make sure ALL the turps is out though.

    I used 15w oil in mine and smashed the headstock bearing case to bits. It rides nice and hard don't it. I downgraded to 10w afterwards and the front end went soft again. It sucks now xx

      I bought 15w, but have half container of 10w on the shelf from another job. I'm going to mix half and half.

    hi mate, is it necessary to remove the bolt on the bottom to remove the upper tube or is it just to drain oil? Thanks.

    • @jasonparker333
      @jasonparker333  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, from memory its both, the oil will drain and ir will release the damper inside the stantion

      @@jasonparker333 cause can't remove one, is turning for ever so was thinking to leave there and pulling anyway, but oil seal is not coming out, noway. So thinking any way that bolt is keeping everything inside attached and can't remove tube. Any clue?

    • @jasonparker333
      @jasonparker333  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@80sPhoenix the bolt at the bottom needed to come out first, youll not seperate the stantion and fork leg without removing that bolt

      I've done them on other bikes before. I'm getting ready to do the FZ6 for the first time. I read the manual and it was nothing new, but I'm trying to see what the top of the damper rod looks like on this bike. That's how I found your vid. Unless I missed it, You didn't show it. The last bike I did had a star point socket opening in the top of the damper rod. All I had to do was weld a nut to the top of a t-bar and engage it with the rod. This bike the tool looks like a crown nut. Some people just stuff a broom stick in there to lock the damper rod. Do you remember what the top of the rod looked like? I see you put tape on a stick, but was it a star point opening? Thanks

    I cant get that stupid metal ring out. Any tips?

    • @jasonparker333
      @jasonparker333  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you will need to just try and stick like 2 metal tooth picks type of tool and then prise it out, there should be a sort of opening where the ends of the pins can be prised out easier, if you can turn the metal ring round inside the fork leg first then this may help

    Please edit your videos with the correct orientatio. For the spring. The more compressed springs should be at the top. If your gonna make videos to help people provide thr correct information or atleats edit the video with the correct info. I slmost put it in backward because of you. I would of been mad as hell if i had to redo it again. You are also endagering peoples lives the suspensions of a motorcycle is so importsnt for handling. Plz correct the video!!
