the fact that couple decided to make an actual "tourist attraction" out of it doesn't sit right with me at all. this is something you can't make such humour out of and I think with big serial killer cases like this it sensationalises the case and makes the criminal a "celebrity" and completely disregards and disrespects the victims. @@sanj3706 Very true. But we don't really know if that was what they were going for. Yes, the house continued to get a lot of attention after "decorating" the place with stuff associated with the murders, but maybe they were just sick of people asking if they've "ever had any encounters of the undead" or if they "regret making the decision to live there." Like you've mentioned, I'm not saying what they did was "right" but if I lived there, I wouldn't want people to think I'm "weird" just because of the place I live in. Though, I think we can all agree that adding all of.. you know...THAT isn't gonna make anything easier for them if that was the case. But either way, I agree on the fact that they're getting attention for something that really shouldn't be laughed at.
I've been watching and listening to true crime documental content for years, I've see this case covered so many times. Not once have I seen anyone do such a thorough job with detailed research and manage to structure it in a cohesive story. I love the fact you're not afraid to make a 3 hour documentary when the sources are rich enough to support it. Honestly great job, I knew every single thing about this case and I still listened to you as if I've never heard of it before.
Agreed, I remember seeing this case featured on the tv series "Stranger In My Home" and it was nowhere near as detailed as this, very interesting. Eleanor does a great job when given the information.
This is the strangest case I’ve ever heard and it’s not even because she’s a little old lady, it’s just her demeanour through all of this...she’s so chill
And actually, they didn't. That's not why she got caught. Someone reported a noise and a missing person to the police. I'm quite surprised that the clever detective who let her go for a coffee thought of digging the back yard.
I'm not an expert gardener or anything, but don't decomposing bodies also count as free fertilizer? Make your garden the envy of the neighborhood while you kill all your tenants!
I was thinking this too, she could of atleast planted a couple of shrubs or something so she didn't look as suspicious digging random holes in the garden on a regular basis
Jokes, sarcastic signs, and a mannequin with Dorothea’s clothes and a shovel in her hand in the garden itself where the victims lied there for years. As if it couldn’t get any eerier. That’s just straight up disrespecting the innocent lives of the bodies buried there. Like it’s not a playground, tf??
I remember when I was on jury duty for the case of someone being stabbed, and some of the women on jury with me decided that the guy who did the stabbing was not guilty (even though all the evidence clearly pointed to him being guilty) just because they thought the defense lawyer was hot. Im serious 🙄
I love how in all of Eleanor’s videos she says the date lots of times throughout, makes it so much easier to follow and most true crime youtubers don’t do this :)
This was recommended to me and it’s crazy because my mom and dad lived RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from her. I asked my mom her experience with Dorothea and she said she never really talked with her because she had so many cats around her house, She (Dorothea) would put stuff up to push the cats away because they would dig but it didn’t really work. Then my mom didn’t get it but after Dorothea was caught she understood why she didn’t want the cats to dig (the bodies). My mom said she had nightmares after Dorothea was caught for months. I’ll update when I question my dad.. 🤪✌🏽
you guys have to remember though, these people go into the case without knowing anything about it. they get presented the information in court and it can be swayed and changed. i'm not saying i agree with them but they only get what's presented to them, not *everything* and they're shut out from outside sources. so i get it, know ?

Yeaaaa that humour was really dark like I’ve seen people do that when there were rumors that it used to be a grave yard where a there house was standing but that’s super dark humor
I actually live in Sacramento and visited the home the other night! Fortunately, I found that the son of the new owners’ was sitting out front and happily shared some stories with me about the house. He had actually told me that there is speculation that the head of the second victim is still under the ground of the stairs leading up to the door because it was cemented over during the time span of her killings and police agencies weren’t able to dig underneath that specific area. I personally felt a powerful energy standing on top of the property but he said he never experienced anything paranormal himself, but did at times feel an energy that would make him a little more frightened than others. He mentioned his 95-year-old grandmother (which is still living there), sees a man standing in her room from time to time. He also mentioned that Ghost Adventures did an episode on the house once. His name is Robert and loves to talk about the house if anyone is in the Sacramento area and would like to walk by, he’s frequently outside and is super open about why his parents bought the house and what they’ve experienced since. Thanks for the videos, I thoroughly enjoyed them since this is local to me & am now binge watching everything else on your channel lol! Cheers!
My god, not only does she look like a Scooby Doo villain… “Alright gang, now let’s find out who really buried the bodies…” “Jinkies! It’s Dorothea! The OWNER of the boarding house!”
a case suggestion: rebecca reusch went missing in germany in february of last year and still hasn’t been found. there are so many theories on the disappearance like did she get murdered by an instagram lover, did she run away or did her sister’s husband kill her? the last theory is the most common one and has so so so so much proof, however her family is 100% sure that he’s innocent. the case was so freaking big in germany last year so I’m sure a lot of people would appreciate you covering it :)
I remember my local butcher had a sign saying unattended children would get slaughtered...and even though it was probably the butchers idea of a sick joke, it scared the s*** out of me as a kid
i went to a pawnshop with my older brother once when i was like 8 and there was a sign that said "unattended children will be sold off" and. like why would you have a sign up like that even as a joke
When I was a little kid we had those fundraisers where you went around to your neighbors houses and asked them if they wanted to buy anything. This couple has bought some candles from me and when I went to drop them off at their house they had a sign that said anyone who knocked on their door would be feed to their dogs...yeah needless to say I set the candles on the porch and booked it the hell out of there. It might be a funny thing to an adult but as a 7yr old? I went out of my way to avoid walking past their house ever again.
So, the house is part of a tourist walk now. And a cute elderly couple lives there now after renovating it. I am planning on taking my grandma there to see it. She is obessed with Murder Mysteries like me, so we are gonna have a whole day after the whole pandemic is over. Edit: I commented way to soon. Lol.
I usually keep eye contact when I'm not surfing another app 😅 or comments/commenting, but then her eyelashes get distracting cause they are like butterfly wings or something as shes blinking 😅
The other signs in the house are bit weird but the ”It was that evil lady, don’t blame me -the house” or whatever is actually a good one. I personally find the dark humour funny but I also do understand that some people might be hurt by those signs because I mean people died
I've heard of Dorothea before, but it's always just told that an old lady killed her boarders. You're the only one who has told her history. She's sooo much worse than I thought! Amazing storytelling!
I’m just glad Ruth’s death got changed from suicide to murder it gives some vindication that she wasn’t just murdered and then blamed for her own death by the murderer on top of it.
I always wonder if police ever actually feel embarrassed and take a moment to reconsider the way they do things when they re open all these cases and find that there actually was foul play but they were too lazy to look into it
You mentioned in an earlier video that you wanted to focus a bit more on people of color and their stories, I believe you should start with Shukri Abdi’s story. Her story is beyond saddening and they are currently fighting for her as we speak. Also this is based in London so with spreading her story you could help fight for her and get those on your channel to also help fight. We only have now this is her time, before they close her case and never look back!! Thank you!!
Wow I hadn't heard of this case. I'd really like Eleanor to cover it as you are so right in saying this is the type of case that needs awareness brought to it for the justice of that young girl x
I'm still confused as to how a little old lady can drag a dead body down a flight stairs and/or around the house. All of them were adults, some of these were adult men which are, at the very least, 160 lbs?? I'm a young and healthy person and even I couldn't do that!
This has been my thoughts this entire time. I watched another case before this where a young and fit teenager boy couldn’t lift his teenaged female victims up to throw over the ledge of the bridge because he forgot how much dead weight is. He had to wait for his accomplice. But this little old lady is dragging around grown men that are over 6’0 🤔 Crazy
Yep, but she was only 59 years old when she got arrested. She was in a little old lady costume. And still it would been difficult for her to move them. She must been dragging them around. ALSO she did hire old convicts from the half-way house to do her some digging......I do not think that they would have wanted to exactly confess later that they helped her to bury bodies in her yard. She had plenty money to buy their silence and knew that they would not talk. That is just a theory, but possible explanation.
Its long been suspected that Dorothea had a accomplish or accomplishes to help her with the disposing of the bodies, (but who we will never for certain) She herself was not a large individual and I highly doubt she could carry a heavy large person like Bert Montoya for example down a flight of stairs, out the door to the burial pit without heavy muscles.
The couple meant no disrespect to the victims, they just didn't want people looking at it like a horror house, and yes it is a murder house but it wasn't the house, it was Dorothea.
My main takeaway from all the true crime I’ve watched/listened to is that way too often police are either corrupt, lazy, or incompetent(and sometimes all three). There have been so many unsolved cases that could’ve been solved and solved cases that could’ve been solved *much* earlier had the police just done their fucking jobs
Its ok for the people to move in to the house at the end of the day its a building where horrible stuff happened. But i dont think im ok with some of the signs the new tennants put up. X
i agree. i appreciate dark humour most of the time but those signs are seriously tasteless considering peoples' loved ones were brutally murdered in that house. it's as if the new home owners are using this situation to get attention for themselves and exploiting it for their own entertainment and personal gain. i find it pretty sick actually
I agree, some of them were over the top, like the drugging and burying, but at the end of the day, its a joke made to make people laugh instead of be terrified of the house.
@@Jtzkb Yeah that's what I thought. It sounds like people kept bothering them about it (reporters too probably) and they just decided to embrace the house's history. But yeah "Trespassers will be drugged and buried" is a little too much in my opinion. They should have kept it more subtle.
ayah it's not funny. ppl were murdered there and they're exploiting it for attention and treating it as a joke. not even one memorial sign showing respect to the victims?? seriously?? it's fucking disgusting
They moved there intending to make a mockery of the victims and make it a tourist attraction. They definitely knew the house’s history but pretended not to, so it wouldn’t look so intentional. Blatantly obvious though, and they have no conscience just like the killer they’re immortalising.

Poltergeist 🤷
That’s a really good idea
A Netflix original tho haha
That’s a good idea but I don’t like horror movies it would be a good thriller movie tho
I think a more Poltergeist like movie would be more appropriate. As it would be fitting to have more than one spirit, and have the spirits be vengeful. Not only that but having the whole “body’s buried around the house” would work better (in my opinion)
Kinda makes sense that Barbara’s mom would’ve been the one to experience ghostly activity since she fits Dorothea’s target type😐
😂😂
😂😂😂
😂🤣 I just thought the reason she is the only one is that she actually believes in paranormal activity and was scared when coming to the house
Whether or not you believe in the paranormal there are reasons for both of these
She could've been scared and yk the saying you attract what you fear so this ghost might've been attracted to her
And fro non believers she might've been so scared she just started seeing things
Well, it is quite imaginative to make up 2 very different ghost stories. And no more. Only 2 with plenty specific details.

But this little old lady is dragging around grown men that are over 6’0 🤔
Crazy
Exactly
Yep, but she was only 59 years old when she got arrested. She was in a little old lady costume. And still it would been difficult for her to move them. She must been dragging them around. ALSO she did hire old convicts from the half-way house to do her some digging......I do not think that they would have wanted to exactly confess later that they helped her to bury bodies in her yard. She had plenty money to buy their silence and knew that they would not talk. That is just a theory, but possible explanation.
the math aint mathing
Its long been suspected that Dorothea had a accomplish or accomplishes to help her with the disposing of the bodies, (but who we will never for certain) She herself was not a large individual and I highly doubt she could carry a heavy large person like Bert Montoya for example down a flight of stairs, out the door to the burial pit without heavy muscles.
these beautiful souls were slaughtered and left forgotten, and when they finally were discovered, they were humiliated and turned into a joke.
agreed, those comments are kind of inappropriate
The couple meant no disrespect to the victims, they just didn't want people looking at it like a horror house, and yes it is a murder house but it wasn't the house, it was Dorothea.

I agree, some of them were over the top, like the drugging and burying, but at the end of the day, its a joke made to make people laugh instead of be terrified of the house.
It’s really disgusting how the couple that moved into the house is joking about the people who have been murdered there.

ayah it's not funny. ppl were murdered there and they're exploiting it for attention and treating it as a joke. not even one memorial sign showing respect to the victims?? seriously?? it's fucking disgusting
They don't want any disrespect for the victims...they just tried making it seem less scary in others' minds.
They moved there intending to make a mockery of the victims and make it a tourist attraction. They definitely knew the house’s history but pretended not to, so it wouldn’t look so intentional. Blatantly obvious though, and they have no conscience just like the killer they’re immortalising.
