He could have taken the opportunity to perform a good cleaning of the PRG, changing the "o" ring and setting the time. It didn't feel right to ride him in the filth he was in.
The watch may not be his, so i don't think that he will be interested in cleaning some else's dead skin. OR he maybe a like you said dirty person.
