I'm so happy to see someone keeping these "dead" vehicle brands alive. I'm trying my best to do the same with my Oldsmobile. Looking forward to the paint work in the next video. My burgundy isn't looking too sharp itself.
Just found me a cream puff of a 2010 Saab 9-3 “xwd” , just converted the rear coils and shocks from the factory (blown) setup to heavier springs from summit and “normal “ shock absorbers, LOVE the ride and drive of Saab’s, can’t wait for crap weather- in NJ....
Cool. Your 9-3 looks to be in much the same state as my 1999 9-5 2.0t. I have the same issues with paint - grey/white patches on the roof like yours on the boot and it's starting on the bonnet. Looking forward to seeing how you tackle this. My car's really not worth enough to justify a respray. For my blackwork and windscreen wiper arms on various cars I've used black heat resistant satin spray paint (recommended for ovens, stoves, bbqs etc) it goes on well and dries quickly to a nice clean satin/semi matt finish and it lasts a very long time - no peeling or fading 2 years on. On my mate's Renault Master white van I used a heat gun on the black plastic bumpers and trim and the result was amazing! Totally free too if you already have a heat gun (apart from your electricity bill) which is great for tight fisted b******s like me haha. I have tried various plastic trim renovators over the years, but found that after a few months of French summer sunshine and heat they quickly fade to grey again. It all depends what the composition is, but most sold in Europe seem to be oil based to some degree and the finish doesn't last over time and UV assault. The black paint however is still good after 2 years. Catch you in the next one.
Clean the plastic parts with isopropyl alcohol, rub them with coconut oil, buff off. Shiny as new in just a few minutes and lasts for a few months, then repeat the very quick, cheap and easy process.
I own a 2004 9.5 Saab Aero wagon, Espresso color, with 55K miles on it. Yes, you read that right. I'm 68 and bought it for my mid-life treat to myself. It's the best car I've ever owned and a blast to drive. The seats are so comfortable and I feel safe driving it. I have gotten "car fever" a couple of times for something newer with the latest technology,....but can't seem to say goodbye to it yet.
I used an orbital to cut and polish on my 03 Arc (also midnight blue) and it made a big difference. I’ll admit though, that roof isn’t gonna buff out. Lol.
I put on a ceramic coating instsead of wax. It repels better, and I get much less water spots after a rain, also, the ceramic coating lasts much longer.
Brandon Ogden yeah same here!! Im selling the stuf;) for Nice black trims! I do a lot of UV gleu with it. And then i decided to put it on my plastic from my mirror. And car handles and it works amazing!! As New! It on there now for 2 years and looks as New!
If it were me (and it might be in a few weeks) front bumper marker lights instead of masking, just pop them off with a flat head takes 3 seconds. Use tie rod end remover tool to pop wiper arms off to remove wiper mesh and do separately across ground

I’m currently on maptun and I’m looking at all the tuning kits. And the stage 1 bumps up the hp to 250hp for the 2008 2.0t and it’s about 372 usd. But the “ BioPower” stage 1+ bumps it up to 270hp for $621 usd. I’m just wondering what is biopower and if I would be able to buy this tuning kit. If not what do I have to do to install the regular stage 1 250hp tuning kit? That is if you know anything about this, because anything would honestly be great!
"Biopower" is often running flex fuel (e85). For any US 9-3, you'd have to get different injectors and possibly a fuel pump to be able to properly run that!
Believe it or not, I have found that using automatic transmission fluid on the plastic trim works great. A number of treatments over a few weeks soaks into the plastic and brings it back to life. Does not take a lot of fluid. Keep a bottle of ATF and a dedicated cloth with your detail stuff, and you are good to go.
@@AutoAutopsy A few things I like about it is that it refreshes the plastic and is not a coating that can flake off. Also no masking involved....and for me no cost, as a little ATF goes a long way, and I already have extra ATF in the garage. Rain will wash some of it off until enough soaks into the plastic. It's as ongoing experiment for me, but so far so good. : )
Those trims of a 9 3 are super easy to remove,u can do it in about 1 minute including front bumper, back bumper centre part is just hard and u need to remove the whole bumper if u have parking sensors
@@AutoAutopsy As i said only the back bumper need to be taken off to remove the trims, the rest of them can be easily removed with flat screwdriver wrapped in some masking tape to avoid damage to the paint, do it carefully starting from the end of the trim, front bumper ones can be removed even faster, I have done mine a year ago, removed all, sprayed plastic primer and first gloss black paint I found on the shelf at halfords and done in about 3 hours including front aero splitter as well, they still look like been restored 5 minutes ago
On the plastic trims on the bumbers/doors instead of spraying them , use a heat gun on all the plastic trim, it brings out the resin and looks great without any products/paint
Dude!! I like these repair /restore tutorial!! Since I just got my 93 ARC as well. Do you have any tutorial for sticky panel/bottom clean up? Those sticky gum on the stereo/ CD panel is sooooo annoying!!
@@AutoAutopsy I would doubt if you have actually tested that. The heat restores the trim on door and bumpers without causing any damage as long as you're careful about it. Plus it takes about 10 minutes to do all areas that it works with. I wasn't dissing your paint job.
Could you also do a spray paint for plastics such as Rustoleum Painter's Touch? I have a gray 2004 9-3 and though the taping off and wait time would be more extensive, I'm thinking I want something more permanent and the flexibility to get creative with color. Your thoughts?
Ima try to do all this to my dads Saab really just did some wax but ooof it lacks on some stuff also would that paint work on the side skirts of my dads car
I had to have the roof , truvk and hood repainted. It had the same faded marks. Used a die product on the trim and it lasts longer. The plastic on the Saab is so cheap
Is that trim restorer just silicone based like back to black, will just wash off. 🤔. That's alot of masking for that 😭 I'd of just painted the trim for real with paint to suit
It's not as easy as swapping over body panels. You need to rewire so much, and it's just..I mean it's nice when it's done, but it takes so much, and it's really just cheaper to repaint, or buy an 08+.

I enjoy the These videos with the older 9-3! Cleaning it and making it nice!
thank you! doing my best

Getting my first 9-3 next weekend. Followed your videos since last year since the idea grew in my head. Quality content as usual. Thanks !

Good luck, and happy motoring! These cars are a treat to drive.
@@CardboardSliver Thanks, big plans for it as well. Hoping to get it ready for Nurburgring in first half of the 2020

Low mileage, awesome! good to see it's clearly loved and cared for
You should try a heat gun. I used it on my 2004 Saab Arc Conv and it made the trim look like brand new.
Interesting
Been meaning to do this on my 01 9-3....guess I will now.

it just ends up making the plastic more brittle and i haven't had to redo mine yet!

scratch would make a difference on that paint! especially if you use it with a machine or a drill attachment.
skipped it this time, but maybe next time!

I'm debating buying my first saab 9 3 now. Would u guys say do it? What to look out for?
that's really a loaded question; i have lots of info on this channel that could probably help
Try using linseed oil. Works a charm.
On the black plastic, that is to say.
this works best imo!
So much work but it has been fun. The aero manual is still a fun car
I bet; want s FWD aero for myself someday
How many miles does you turbo x have and what year is it?
181000
2008
Did the trim restorer hold up well after time and washing?
yep!
There is another plastic piece, that could be restored, the one by the hood at the window wipers. Its pretty easy to remove.
Damn, forgot about that one... lol
Nice timing, just about getting annoyed by the trim on my 05 9-3 turning very.. light-gray :/
Blow torch or a heat gun... it will look like new
Lol! Do this! Worked wonders for me :)
How long did the plastic spray last??
I ended up getting the entire car repainted about a year after this, and it still looked good then
What do you think about gel trim restorers?
never used them!
Do the plastic parts still look good?
yep!

Repaint the doors and fender. wrap the roof black :)
Done as of about a year ago
Hey your doing that on a 110 degree day .....dedicated to your saab

do it! worth the time imo
How long has this lasted? Have you washed the car yet?
it still looks the same about a month later! Car has ben washed probably 3 times since
I live in UK and desperately need an drivers side - right hand bumper indicator cover and bulb holder - any ideas on where I can get one please 🙏
In the US, I’d say esaabparts. I’m not sure where you can get parts there. I’m sure there plenty of options.
Did the product hold up after 2 years ? Thanks
I ended up getting the entire car painted after about a year of having this on. Still looked pretty good!
Black wax also works on plastic trims
That makes it shiny/glossy. It's supposed to have a matte finish
Hello.. Will the rear lamps fit the saab 9-3 2004 2.0t ?? ?? arc. Is it the same size ??
yes, check out my video on it: th-cam.com/video/vJpcLsQp6fA/w-d-xo.html

Do you have a fresh paint job on your list of goals for the ARC?
Probably, although it's pretty costly
I just painted my ‘91 MB 560SEL...$7000 at a shop up in north Phoenix
How often do you have to re apply the Meguiars?
I haven’t done it since
honestly, i think it's still too damn hot here in Phoenix to do any of this, especially hard wax. I will let my Saabies wait another month.
Turned out fine for me; just do it in the shade and early in the day! lol

this isn't paint; not necessary!
