My brother and grew up in Chicago. When we were in grade school our parents would drop us of at our grandparents in Mississippi for the summer in the 70's. I have fond memories of us leaning on the rear tire fenders sometimes of his Massey 135 riding along. Besides waking up when the rooster crowed to pick cucumbers I enjoy the country, fishing, riding horses, slopping hogs, herding cows, cold clean well water and fruit off the trees. No more farming now, but dad and mom retired moved back down there, he has a enclosed JD with a/c, CD player and only cuts peoples grass and small vegetable garden for a hobby.
I learned one thing about hills and the old Massey we use to have - never monkey with the multi-power while going down them. I learned what free-wheeling meant real quick lol. Good quality video, Ben.
Multi power is a death trap ,many years ago i bought a secondhand MF 550 as a small runabout tractor for our livestock farm in Scotland ,lot of steep land ,had a few scary moments when in wrong range ,theres fast and completely uncontrolable when you hope you are going to be alive
being a hillbilly myself , 2 wheel drive tractors all we had and there are still a lot of john deere A's still popping around in valleys and hollows . but a lot of new stuff to but ,2 wd shows the real tractor skills in n.e.tn.
I Bushhog with 2 wheel drive tractors a 2004 5320 JD pulls 7 ft Bushhog and a 1990 3070 Massey Ferguson 15 ft batwing Bushhog, and I also have baled hay on steep hills. There's one hill I climb straight up with the MF and the batwing and come down another way that not so steep. I have loaders on the tractors and fluid in the tires is a must. And I leave the bucket on the loader if I think I may need it. And both of my tractors are cabs. Good video.

Hey Ben, I don't know for sure, but that looks like pretty steep ground for a two-wheel drive tractor with no ROPS and seat belt. I log and chip on steep ground out in northwest CA with a L-Series Kubota, but I would be hesitant to hillside on the ground you are mowing! I would be working up and down, not hillsiding. Stay safe and keep the videos coming.
In this particular spot it’s actually safer to go around the hill at least when using a 2 wheel drive. It drops off steep into the woods so if the started sliding forward off the hill there’s not a good place to stop. I understand your concern on the ROPS. Growing up I saw this tractor cut, rake, and square bale this field every year. Can you imagine pulling a heavy #12 Massey baler on that slope? I always rode with my Great Uncle until we got there, then it was time to watch 😂! Basically all we had here were 2 wheel drive tractors and they worked everywhere. Appreciate you watching!
Ya know... cameras tend to smooth out some of the slopes on these videos; given that (and even as it looks on film)... I'm pretty sure I don't have big enough ones to do what you made look easy! Wowsa.

What size tires and wheels do you have on there? I'm looking at a 253 and it has worn out 13.6x28s on it. Thinking about replacing those with 14.9s if I buy the tractor.
This is a good video for all those people that think they need a quick hitch. That didn't take you long to hook up, and even with a quick hitch, you still need to get off the tractor to attach the driveshaft.
@@khtractors I’m 13 and my dad won’t let me hook up attachments to my tractor so he bought me a quick hitch to use on my tractor so I don’t have to get off unless it has a PTO but not all of my attachments are quick hitch compatible either but most are so 🤷🏼♂️ Im grateful for what I have
No problems other then a few leaks. If it’s your pump that’s no big deal really but if something is wrong with the steering valve that could be expensive. I assume your reservoir is full of fluid. Does it try to work at all?
So we have a MF 285. The power steering oil was coming out the steering wheel. We blew the o ring. It was a $30 part. We watched a few you tubes and changed it. That was two years ago and still working. Had to pull the steering wheel, dash, and steering column.
K&H Tractors I understand that I was thinking a good video would be tractor safety working on steep slopes so many in my state are killed on tractors each year
@@khtractors Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'm considering building a barn but the way the land lays the path to the barn would be about 15 degrees. Tractor I have is a Farmall 200. See lots of discussion about 4wd tractors but very little for 2WD. This is a good video to illustrate ability!
I owned a 245 and feared trying to stop on gently sloping ground. I gave up on hydraulics and brakes on the tractor after spending the money on a ring gear and traded it. Last Ferguson I have owned. 30 years ago.
Sounds like you must have had a 245 standard instead of the orchard model. These have wet brakes and hold really good. I hate you had a bad experience. Thanks for watching!

I’ve done a lot with 2 wheel drive tractors over the years on steep ground. Just watch your approach and don’t get into a place you can’t back out of.
