I agree. Chile was by far the most modern and developed country I’ve been to in Latin America. And if I forgot to mention it in the video, I also actually felt safer there than I do in the US. But at the end of the day, this video is about Santiago and not about the US 😅

If you want to see a really big, drastic change in environments, check around Puente Alto or la Pintana, which are statistically the most dangerous regions of Santiago (check them from photos) and then check places like La Dehesa or Vitacura, which are very posh neighborhoods. Great video! I stayed to watch all of it and it was very entertaining, keep up the good work! Saludos de chile! P.S. Your spanish is muy bueno.
Thanks for the well organized video about some facets of Santiago! I have never visited, but it looks like it would be great place to visit. I just subscribed, and I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Thank you for watching and letting me know in the comments. I’d love to hear what everyone likes about this video vs the others I’ve made. Santiago is definitely an awesome place to visit
I really enjoyed your video, I could see the both sides inside the city and almost feel the difference in environments. I definitely need to try cazuela, looks so tasty 😋 I want to visit Chile one day and the information that you give is important, it's a really great video 👏🏽
Yeah the differences are crazy. What I showed are only some small examples. The cazuela wasn’t too extraordinary but it was really tasty. Glad you enjoyed!
@adamjmatheson Yeah, I'm Chilean and I am not really that big of a fan of the cazuela either, it's more of a winter food. Also the addition of the soup makes it a bit too filling. I'd rather eat all it's components dry. My favourite Chilean soup is porotos granados, look it up.
I'm Brasilian and i never ever been abroad, even some countries stay beside Brazil. Someday I will visit somewhere, I hope. Yours videos is awesome man, keep doing that.
Brazil is an awesome place although I know it can be hard to get to other places from there. I hope you get to travel sometime soon and thank you for the support my friend 🙏🏻☺️
I'm not surprised. The whole continent has the same problem. Beginning with the United States. Poverty on one side and rich neighborhoods on the other. Chile is not an exception! Is just a part of the hard reality of this world. There is not country in the world where you will see wealthy people everywhere living happily and safe. Our continent is a big factory of poverty. Best regards!
It is sad to know that, rich in one place poor in another and not only people, but also places. I lived in Utah, Orem, Provo. There at least you can see that the difference is minimal and it's a great life. Greetings from Coyhaique, Chilean Patagonia 🇨🇱❤️😊
I walked those very streets you walked last year with my cousin , that was my first time in 49 years...every city has its rough areas to be honest I grew up in Glasgow Scotland and la Vega is no deferent from the Barras market in Glasgow I actually enjoyed walking by the old parts of santiago but yes it was heart breaking to see all the graffiti .
It still seemed like a very calm and enjoyable city to me but many people keep telling me about how different it was. Oh well - I still think it’s an awesome city
the graffiti is fairly recent, after the 2019 riots it exploded and everything is out of shape, boarded up etc. not as bad as valparaíso but still shocking to those of us who live here. it is on the mend though so come back in a few years.
Ok, Chilean here, first of all: That spicy sauce is the weirdest thing ever, is it supposed to be Pebre? Pebre NEVER has rice, I bet your "local guy" took you to Olga just because he knows her lol. Yes, you're eating the Cazuela right, most people cut everything up and mix it first. Yes, Santiago is extremely unequal, although Chile in general is very unequal, not all of Chile is AS unequal as Santiago is. No, Chileans are not more reserved, Santiaguinians are, it has to do a lot with the security crisis, people are scared out of their minds with the mafias in Santiago.
Awesome that you’re there! It’s expensive although I’d say that there are some good decent ways around it you can find reasonably priced food and cheap hostels if you need to. Enjoy
That guy probably took the opportunity to get you to a friend's little restaurant. Cazuela is, indeed a very Chilean dish but probably better if you get it at someone's house. You should have gone to Mercado Central, which was very close to where u were. There you'd have gotten something better (more pricey though).
As a Bachelor of Political Science and Public Administration and soon-to-be Public Administrator, I believe it's interesting to know a few things about Chile. Here are some points: 1. The center of Santiago wasn't always filled with graffiti and street vending. While this issue has persisted for years, uncontrolled immigration combined with the large protests in 2019 led to a significant deterioration in the quality of life in the city center. 2. Chile experienced its economic golden years in the 2000s. However, it's true that the momentum from the high prices of raw materials gradually diminished. Without sustained economic growth, the population began to feel increasing frustration over inequality, especially considering that some have access to quality education and healthcare while others do not. 3. Approximately 40% of Chile's population lives in Santiago, but you can also visit other cities like Valparaiso and Viña del Mar, as well as Concepción. These cities have around one million inhabitants each. 4. It's important to note that the issue of graffiti and dirtiness is not solely a cultural one. Even in wealthier areas, these problems occur. However, significant amounts of money are invested in cleaning the streets because each municipality has its own resources, and some are much wealthier than others. saludos desde chile
Another point I forgot to mention is that the informality rate is actually a significant indicator of the well-being of an economy. In the USA, it is approximately 6%, while in Chile, it reaches around 30%. In other Latin American countries, it can be as high as 40% to 50%.
Chile is indeed a very unique place. I think next time I need to make my way to the countryside even though it seems like almost the entire population lives in Santiago. Anyways thank you for your comment. Hope you enjoyed the video!

Hello, thanks for you video, After the social outbreak and Caribbean immigration, Chile changed a lot, before it was orderly, very clean, there was no street commerce in the streets, everything changed throughout Chile, we hope that when the government changes we will recover and communism will allow the country to return to life. emerge.
Haha yeah when he goes to the more upscale neighborhood, it's totally normal in most developing countries. You have the richer areas and then you have the poorer areas. Actually we kind of have similar places in the US, i live near DC and when you go into the city there are some neighborhoods where you can see the differences between wealth. It's funny some people are criticizing him for eating in a poorer area, I suppose it could be "worse" but the way I see it, it's just local people.
You visit the worst place but that place were not so bad years ago. “La Vega” and Estacion Central were destroyed by the bad behaviour and habits of the caribbean inmigrants (you could see its hard to find a chilean on those places xd) There’s problems in the city but not so marked as on those places.
I think you missed food bro. You just happened to cross someone who wanted to sell food, but wasn't interested that you lived the whole foody adventure. There are heaps of good traditional dishes. Cazuela is good, but not sure it'll be the first option to show off Chilean traditional food.
Las Condes, La reina, Providencia, La Dehesa, Trapenzes, Lo barnechea, Vitacura, Ñuñoa only above Irarrazabal street. Any other neighborhood avoid it at all costs, and only you can go to other neighborhoods that aren't from the list I gave if you know someone from there. Santiago center is extremely dangerous, visit only at day there. Never at night. Never go to bellavista at night. Never buy food from street vendors. Be extremely careful at plaza de armas at day and never go at night of course.
Thank you. I am a retiree wanting to travel and live there for a little while. What are the names of the wealthier and safer neighborhoods? I am concerned about safety.
Hat's off for you, for being able to visit the Estación Mapocho neighborhood. It is a very dangerous area indeed. Even I, as Chilean, feel unsafe visiting that place. Also congrats for showing the big inequalities of Chilean society. Chile would be a better country without that.
I think you are wrong. Beacause if you compare the "inequality" of Chile with the "equality" of its neighbour countries. Especially if you visit the "dangerous areas" of the other countries, then an only then you will be able to understand that the "inequality" that you are talking about is just a word. To eliminate inequality does not help anyone. On the contrary it destroy the posibilities of really help the most disadvantage people. In reality what is really important is to eliminate poverty. That is, and should be the priority. If you are really serious about helping the poor and not just defend a socialist ideology that has not demostrated any real benefit in giving people a better living, fereedom, and oportunities for personal progress.
@@VastardokKukiao Exactly, that is a fact. In the time of Allende, who wanted to convert Chile in a socialist country, the rich people suffered, so they saved what they could and left. The government nationalized the industries. And the workers tried to run them. But inavriably they failed, because they did not know how to do it without incurring in loses. They fix the pricesof everything artificially and raised de salaries. Creating inflation. That made the money worthless. They printed more money which made the situation worse. The production of everything made in Chile reduced because of negligent management and economic conditions made imposible to maintain the same outputs. Corruption, nepotism, political discrimination and plane robery of state funds were the norm rather than the exception. As the Chilean peso devaluated, to import esential thing from outside including food, fuel, medicines and machineery was an increasing problem. The government spent all the Central Bank reserves and contracted debt beyond the capacity of the country to repaid it. Everything became scarce or imposible to get. Even toothpaste and toilet paper. At the end we achieved equality in the extremely long lines of people to buy rationed few things. Including, baby formula, gas to cook, bread and cooking oil. So the same thing happened again in Venezuela, where they also wanted "equality". And in Argentina. Which is a rich country able to feed itself, but there is poverty and lack of money to buy food. The malnourishmen of children is now a problem thank to the search for "equality". Those are facts. On the other hand, countries where the fight again enequality does not involve socialism, the results are better. Capitalist country, which use a system liberty of comerce, freedom of trade, allows competition, private enterprise and the accummulation of rich on individuals, fare much better. The have higher standards of living, less poverty, and whoever is not happy with his or her live can choose to change his or her live in whatever way they want. So individuals are responsible for their own destiny and success in life falls onto the ones who work harder, save, invest and prosper. And whoever does not want to be rich the he or she can work for others and go home and enjoy life free of stress.
What is the name of the wealthier, safe side the guy said is better (name of neighborhood). Going to travel there next year but we want to be safe (two single females). I speak Spanish too so that’s helpful. What is the name of the aerial tramway company to see the spectacular views. Have you done a video of Uruguay.
Yeah, you can stay in las Condes and some parts of Providencia if you want a nice and safe neighborhood that’s close to the rest of the city and easily accessible with public transporte (use and app called Moovit in that case). The teleférico (aerial tram or whatever the name is) is in cerro San Cristobal, it’s a park called parque metropolitano which is at the north side of las condes and providencia. Parque metropolitano includes this teleférico, a zoo and some other things. If you go to the city center, be aware of pickpockets and people looking at you suspiciously, just like any big city in the world. If you like to do sports, I would highly suggest that you go hiking to a mountain like cerro Manquehue, it has a fantastic view. Write me down if you have another question, happy to awnser

But at the end of the day, this video is about Santiago and not about the US 😅
@francogolde38 bien dicho!
@@f3d0x_39 bastantes suena a mucho , cuáles serían esas ?

If you want to see a really big, drastic change in environments, check around Puente Alto or la Pintana, which are statistically the most dangerous regions of Santiago (check them from photos) and then check places like La Dehesa or Vitacura, which are very posh neighborhoods. Great video! I stayed to watch all of it and it was very entertaining, keep up the good work! Saludos de chile!
P.S. Your spanish is muy bueno.
I can tell you that La Pintana is in better conditions than any poor neighborhood in latin america. You won’t see trash everywhere.

The cazuela wasn’t too extraordinary but it was really tasty.

Very different since I doubt in Barras market they behead people or do heavy drug trafficking, kidnapping, prostitution or murders.
Piñera opened the door for those animals to come to Chile, and now the country is suffering because of his stupidly
Ok, Chilean here, first of all:
That spicy sauce is the weirdest thing ever, is it supposed to be Pebre? Pebre NEVER has rice, I bet your "local guy" took you to Olga just because he knows her lol.
Yes, you're eating the Cazuela right, most people cut everything up and mix it first.
Yes, Santiago is extremely unequal, although Chile in general is very unequal, not all of Chile is AS unequal as Santiago is.
No, Chileans are not more reserved, Santiaguinians are, it has to do a lot with the security crisis, people are scared out of their minds with the mafias in Santiago.

Here are some points:
Valparaiso, downhill bike.
TLDR
You speak Spanish very well, even with our idioms, you still understood us.

I think you missed food bro. You just happened to cross someone who wanted to sell food, but wasn't interested that you lived the whole foody adventure. There are heaps of good traditional dishes. Cazuela is good, but not sure it'll be the first option to show off Chilean traditional food.
Can someone from Chile please provide a list of all the safe and interesting neighbourhoods in Santiago and the neighbourhoods tourists should avoid?
Las Condes, La reina, Providencia, La Dehesa, Trapenzes, Lo barnechea, Vitacura, Ñuñoa only above Irarrazabal street. Any other neighborhood avoid it at all costs, and only you can go to other neighborhoods that aren't from the list I gave if you know someone from there.

@@Gerard-Red facts
So the same thing happened again in Venezuela, where they also wanted
"equality".
And in Argentina. Which is a rich country able to feed itself, but there is poverty and lack of money to buy food.
The malnourishmen of children is now a problem thank to the search for
"equality".
