Just purchased a Mint Sony A6000 about a month ago for $275, then bought a Sigma Prime 30mm for $300, added a hotshoe cover, another memory card, as well as 3 more batteries and a charger... for about $650 i ended up with a Top Notch " BEGINNER " setup. I Love this Camera, and i love the work it puts in. Once i get my time in, ill spend more money on Newer and more Feature Rich of a Camera, but for Now... Best Decision Ever.

@@michealpersaud6718 i can tell you right now, it is NOT just a Beginners Camera. A Fisher Price Camera is a Beginners Camera. The A6000 has EVERYTHING you will need to get Started, AND grow with. You will NEVER outshoot the Camera that is Fact ! And it all comes down to Lenses Anyway. It is a Beast of a Camera and Extremely Affordable. Will it have all the bells and Whistles that a $5k camera body has ? NO,... Do you NEED All those Bells and Whistles to Take a Picture ? no , because it all comes down to Your Eyes and Mind, and The Lens Capturing it. People NEED to make outlandish claims about Older Cheaper Tech, because if they focused on it, they would Never Get Ahead. They HAVE TO constantly Latch on to the Newest and Most Expensive, hence why people Cover a $15k Hasselblad that with lenses will run you OVER $50k...
Or why they claimed godliness with the New FujiFilm X100v iv, yet Now since they Cannot Get it , Claim it is " MidTier " and just a Decent camera. Sorry for replying with a book, i just want you and others to see... there is NOTHING wrong with getting an Older Cheaper item,.. especially when it is STILL GREAT !

Great review. I have had the A6000 for at least 5 or 6 years, love adapting vintage and other branded lenses to this body. I also picked up a used NEX 3N and an A5100. They are all fun to use and extremely good quality imagery.

A6000 is my go to night time street camera, I love it with a 50mm f1.8 around the streets of Liverpool, tried various options in the past but can't see me replacing it anytime soon, it just goes about it's business perfectly for me
I already have the A6000, but I can’t deny Nex 6 is also a very good camera for the price, specially because of the build quality and EVF resolution. If I have to choose I would probably still go for the A6000 mostly because of the faster autofocus and 24 megapixel sensor. Those features are deal breakers for me in street photography. I used to crop a lot and faster autofocus helps a lot.
That’s totally fair. A6000 is a great little camera.
The 6100 is only a hair more on the used market and it’s in a whole new league with autofocus and colors. I honestly grab it more than my a7iv for a camera to have in my bag and it has much more in common with the a7iv than the a6000. Eye tracking autofocus is incredible on the 6100. Surprised you didn’t mention it. It does 4k and with all the massive improvements it’s only 100$ more used around 500$ …. I say all this as someone who owned the 6000 for years. And my gf owns a nex 5T. I’m very familiar with these cameras. Get the 6100.

Have had the a6000 for more than 5 years now. I don't make videos and only shoot photos, but I'm still impressed with the results after all that time. Good dynamic range, usable files even at ISO 6400 if you use a proper RAW based noise reduction software, and yes, the autofocus really is performing well.
I think the main reason why it's branded "AVCHD" on the rear is because it only had this codec when it has been released. They added the 50 mpbs XAVC-S option later with a firmware update.
Thanks for the comment! Love to hear your experience with it. That makes sense about the branding, but the A5100 shipped with XAVC-S out of the box and was still branded AVCHD haha. So weird! Love this little camera!

Best Buy recently had an open box for $155 that I purchased and hopefully will make it over to pick it up today.
I was stuck between the ZVE10 and something with a viewfinder since I do occasionally take photos as well. At $155 with the kit lens, it seemed like a no brainer and I can live without 4k.

Just bought a used Sony A6000 with 3 lenses, large Rockwell bag, 3 SD cards, 2 extra batteries all cords, camera strap and tripod at Goodwill for $6.98 .. Took it home charged it and it works great.. One of the lenses is a 500mm..
For less than 7 dollars? Wow!
i only use it for photo's with a manual 35mm, good to know all the information and that the NEX6 is newer than the 7. I bought mine a few weeks ago for 325eu. (with kitlens). It feels good in the hand and I like the vivid colourmode. I only shoot JPEG. I play with the modes in the camera and i almost do not edit. (a challenge) . thx for the video

hi, one cuestion i have a nikon d3100, and i am thinking to get a sony A6000. You think its a good idea? i just want a more portable camera and a camera that thake better photos
been eyeing the a6000 for a while now. came from nex 5 to nex 5T to olympus em10ii and now I want to go back to sony.
but as someone who doesn't make money off of photography and lives in a third world country. $300 for a camera body is something I still need to plan ahead and budget my expenses accordingly. so its gonna take me some time lol

Great video. The a6000 didn’t have XAVC S when it was released. It came later in a firmware update. Hence the AVCHD branding.

What lens are you using?
Comprehensive overview, but where do you position the nex7 in this context? 24MP sensor.
It’s right in the mix. It’s usually pretty overpriced and I prefer the A6000 over it so it usually isn’t one I recommend to people. If you find it for under $250 great, but they usually are marked up a bit in the used camera market.
I know it's pretty off the topic, but yet.. Does anybody knows, why the image, the ratio, when you get into a chatroullet, with a6000 it gets kinda cropped? Like it's not full, you know what I mean? I run my Sony through an HDVI on video mode 4:3... If somebody will answer, I'll be very grateful 😊

I'm in the market for a compact mirrorless camera for street photography and some portraits. I've allocated about 300 of my photography budget to the camera. I've been trying to decide if I should go for the a6000, or just grab the nex-6 and save money I can use to get a nicer lens. Is the autofocus that much better to the point where it's worth the extra chunk of money or is it a waste? I wouldn't crop much at all so the sensor resolution of the nex-6 is perfectly fine for me. I just can't seem to come to a decision about whether the extra money is worth the few small improvements of the a6000.
I think the NEX-6 is totally fine for street photography and portrait work. I think you would see the benefits of the A6000's AF if you were shooting more fast paced subjects. If you have time to setup and compose your images, the NEX-6 would work totally fine. This would let you buy a nicer lens and upgrade your body down the road!
Do you think that I should upgrade from a nex f3? I am using it only for photography. I don't know how much of an improvement the higher resolution sensor for landscapes and the more autofocus points for portraits would be.
It would be a big upgrade in terms of auto focus. The images will look pretty similar though!
I got this camera 10 years ago for christmas but switched to fuji and this camera has not been used for years until last year just let my kiddo use it.
Gracias a tus videos yo me decidi por la nex 6. la encontre con 24.000 disparos y a tan solo 150 dolares con su caja original y accesorios. fue la mejor decision para tener una camara para uso casual y asi no estropear los equipos de mayor calidad. lo malo es que con algunos lentes tamron ej. el 24mm 2.8 en video me queda con enfoque manual no se puede grabar en automatico. con los demas lentes no he tenido problemas. Hasta le he montado un 70-200 fe2.8 y un sony 200-600 fe5.6-6-3 y se ve muy graciosa la camara. saludos desde chile
Hey! I had the a6000 for a few minutes and sold it immediateley and kept my Nex-5!! But now I ordered the Nex-6 because of all the Pros. BUT I have a question: Did you remove the eye cup? MyNex-6 comes with a super bigeye cup and it lookshorrible. Thanks!
I bought mine used and it didn't come with an eye cup!

people still trying to gouge for the a6000. I've seen crazy prices like 500-700. Im like lay off the crack pipe. Still loved it but had to get rid of it a few years ago because i needed better video.

Do you think this camera would be a better option than a5100 for instagram photos? Especially gym pics . also a comparison video of a5100 and a6000 would be great if possible !
Given this video and a few others I’ve seen, the a6000 would be the better camera for what you wish to shoot. I just picked one up from a camera shop used for $285.09 in great condition. I got lucky.
I want to buy one and put my 24gm on it as 35 since it sits on the bench most of time. Do you think that is a good idea? I normally use a7r5 with 50gm and 135gm
Yes that is a great idea. You will get wonderful results. That is one of my favorite pairings with this camera!
Is it worth upgrading to the A6700 if I already have the A6000 or should I look for full frame cameras?
"...or should I look for full frame cameras?" That's the $64,000 question, isn't it? The basic considerations are:
1) Will you make use of the two biggest full frame advantages over APS-C: better low-light performance, (usually) higher pixel count for making larger prints.
2) Are you willing to spend quite a bit more for equivalent full frame lenses?
3) Are you willing to lug around generally heavier lenses with the equivalent attributes as smaller, lighter APS-C lenses?
Or to boil it down, in short, do you want to make larger prints, and are you willing to pay more for your lenses and carry heavier lenses to get this functionality? If the answer is no, then you >probably< should stick to the APS-C universe.
i would say that if you want to film a a6400, becasuse a6400 shoots only in 1080p. a6400 shoots in 4k and has a lot better af in video. So a6000 if only phots, a6400 if you want a hybrid on a budget/zv e10 if you shoot mainly videos and do not care about evf and a6700 as best "budget" mirrorless camera.

I would go for the A5100 for the flip up screen and touch screen.
If I shoot mostly sports should I save up for the a6000 or just buy a NEX6?
For sports I’d save up and go for the A6000. You’ll like the faster auto focus for quicker action.

@@kraigpruett Would it be bad to start off at the NEX6 to see if I really do want to do photography then get a 6000 series (probally not the a6000). Im trying to save as much as possible because I already have two nikon F mount lenses and was planning to buy a NF-E1 mount. I would save about $120 if I picked up a NEX6 with a viltrox NF-E1 compaired to an a6000 with the same adapter. Sorry for rambling I just want to know if the extra $120 is a huge upgrade from an NEX6 to a6000 for sports photography.
Had an a6000 got it for a really good price & sold it like 2 months later for a really good price & got a sonya6400 😎

I have the a6000! it was great but the low light was not up to par. Any one else have this issue with low light?
Yeah it struggles past 4000 iso for sure. Not the best in low light. But for a 10 year old APS-C camera it’s not that bad.

Then I would firstly look at other lens. I got sony 35mm f 1.8
and tamron 17-70mm f 2.8
and they work great, this sony is my favourite one to grab and go, perfect lens for me

As an owner of a6000, I would say dont get the a6000 unless it's a bargain. Get a used a6300/a6100 or if got the budget used a6400/6600. The newer versions(a61/4/600) get improved skin tones , slog , 4k xavc , flip screen , and hella better iso performance and autofocus. And a6100/a6300 is only 100-150 usd more .

Hahaha I didn’t really answer that. I would say they are comparable, and I’d probably go for something a little better than the A7ii if I was going to spend more money.
A7ii is a highly flawed Camera. I would look at an APSC option before going for the A7ii. ☮️
