Love that your putting full games up during this time, keeps me somewhat sane.

I remember in the BBC's build up to the 2006 FA Cup final, they had fans and celebrities talking about the 1980 final. Billy Bragg said that he was watching the evening highlights of this game and a fight almost broke out in the pub when Willie Young fouled Allen - even though it was the highlights and everybody knew it was coming!! 🤣

As a 16 year old young lad I obviously have never seen this match but now I have thanks to you so thank you West Ham, thank you for teaching me a little bit about some of the legends of and the history of my favourite football club and the club that I consider to be the best in the world. It's just a shame we haven't won it since but never mind, I'm sure we will one day #COYI

1:37:52 - I was in primary school when this match was on and it was the first FA Cup Final I ever watched. Saturday May 10th was the date. I remember cos one of my class mates (who I'm still in contact with) had his birthday on the same day.
That Willie Young/Paul Allen incident is always the first thing that pops in my head when thinking or talking about this match. Felt so sorry for Paul.

Amazing repeat of history. Leeds United, as FA Cup holders and overhelming favourites, lose 0 - 1 to second division Sunderland in 1973. Arsenal, as holders and overwhelming favourites, lose 0 - 1 to second division West Ham United in 1980.

Arsenal seemed to have made Wembley their second home between 1969 and 1980 with FA Cup, League Cup and Charity Shield Finals coming in regular successions and intervals.

Awhile later, I’m not sure how long we were out shopping and my grandad was driving us to a frozen food place called epax on the tidal basin road off the silver town way. Now my grand father was a proud Irishman and a gooner but as we came around the bend and about to turn down the road where the freezer place was some one had painted on the wall the old style MOTD Full-time graphics Arsenal 0 - West Ham 1 Brooking 13’ under West Ham.
Under all that isn’t said we hammered you paddy’s.
My grandad pulled over and began laughing so hard, to this day, that I don’t know how he didn’t it piss himself. For years after the old Silvertown way was demolished to the day he died if we ever went near it he would start laughing and set us all off.

I was there with a couple of my closest mates. Still the best day of my life, something I mentioned in my 'Father of the bride's' speech when she got married 4 years ago. Went down brilliantly with the lads, like a lead ballon with the ex missus..

Never mind the goal and the cup, what you really want to watch is 1:37:52 for 15 seconds. Obviously to reinforce that St Trevor Brooking was a prince amongst footballers, Alan Devonshire was a lovely player, and to watch "The Day The Music Died" when Willie Young single-handedly changed football rules, and pretty much set the course for VAR. Burn him !

There seemed to be twice as many West Ham fans in & around Wembley as Arsenal fans.. maybe they were bored of going there every season..

Phil Parkes, "the World's most expensive goalkeeper." Shame he didn't improve upon his single England cap. Damn those also-rans Clemence and Shilton! Even Man City's Joe Corrigan managed to squeeze in 9 England caps between 76 and 82 as 3rd choice National goalie.
