The class 30 singularity is the aetherophasic engine that's created by a player empire taking the crisis path that could literally destroy the fabric of the universe like the contingency mentioned earlier during their emergence.
I like the theory that some people bring up that since multiple empires throughout the games history know that they in fact are in a game, that the class 30 singularity the contingency is stopping is the player directly ascending their own empire, a game crashing bug effectively stopping the simulation, or the late game lag from way too many pops.

It’s like If you believe that out of the vastness of the universe God specifically created humanity, and all other life intelligent or otherwise is just an accident.

Imo it’s a bit slippery for immersion because stellaris makes sooo many references to other scifi works, making it’s flavor feel somewhat unoriginal. This is probably a hot take. I do enjoy them, but still think the references are too much.
Class 30 singularity is the simulated universe becoming too complex causing the simulation to end, so when creators of contingency realized the universe was a simulation and they chose to die rather than advance and destroy the simulation. They created the contingency to ensure the simulation would continue rather than allow another tech singularity i.e. civilization to become so complex that it ends the simulated universe.
That brings some connection with the Vultanum Star Assembly too, they believed they were living in a giant simulation and wanted to end their participation in it
Cybrex bailing the galaxy out at it's darkest hour is why this is the best endgame crisis. I would love if they expanded on this and made it a novel or short story.

In my imaginary Stellaris TV series one of the major faction leaders has a “wise butler” type character who offers advice and words of wisdom and there’s a big reveal in season 2 or 3 that he was a Cybrex in disguise the whole time and his benevolent wisdom-dispensing is part of his desire to protect and promote life and atone for the Cybrex’ past.
My theory is that the contingency is supposed to destroy those with the potential to psionicaly ascend to prevent an aetherophasic engine, however all species have the potential
Really good, as always! A small part you left out though; the Contingency cheat their way into activation, as they themselves state. There was no singularity risk when they awake, they just hacked synths to awaken them manually. That suggests their programming had become corrupted.
@@deeplerg7913 Moreso it is just that the contingency requires some kind of synthetic mind to control in order to activate itself; not necessarily that it was an intended trigger for the contingency.
@@lachieslan3970 Nor really. It could be as simple as 'Contingency needs someone to push the big red button, and it can only control synths, so a synth will do.'
Then it follows that a class 30 singularity must be something that is impossible to achieve in-game, since this "hack" is the only way the contingency activates.

Meh, no. It's The Cybrex who are Contingency tech that were found by Kuur and reversed engineered in creation of their own AI. I had a theory; all crises are in a way linked to each other. I think the hunters the prethoryn speak of are the unbidden, there are very clear signs that they have been to the galaxy before, and many times. I also believe that because of the unbidden coming to the galaxy, the entire galaxy cycles through stages when it is full of life and times where it isn’t. This can be evident with the Yuht, which unfortunately managed to rise in a time when the galaxy was almost devoid of sapient life and thus were completely alone. I also think that the Contingency was created to defend the galaxy against the unbidden, but by doing so they have to destroy the galaxy. After all to make an omelette one must break a few eggs.
that's a very interesting thought on the prethoryn. from what I know, the unbidden are energy creatures. there's an event that can happen after you defeat the prethoryn and you have psionically ascended - the queen can sense something isn't right, and you notice a whole galaxy has gone dark. that ties in nicely with the unbidden's energy harvest...kind of? one caveat here - that would only work if the speed of light was basically instant in the stellaris universe. this might explain that the signal from the contingency appears throughout the galaxy instantly. this might explain the little text that you might get when you construct a dyson sphere near a spiritualist empire saying "hey! you just blocked our favorite star!". but the game also seems to contradict itself, though I'll have to dig deeper into some texts to see if what I'm remembering about this is correct.
@@deeplerg7913 The spiritualist empire very clearly states that "Although the light will not be seen from the surface of our planet for many generations, knowing that it is gone is sitll troublesome." That isn't the exact quote, but they acknowledge that light travels at the speed of light, but our technology often employees quantum mechanics for communicaiton, and other things, allowing for the communication we have.
The Class 30 is Become the Crisis. Note their text, it's singularities, plural. The Contingency watches to see Galaxies die and prevent it. (It also explains the Shroud mechanics AND Menace mechanics synergy in game play.)
If the Contingency is destroyed and the caretakers live, they take flight to a signal from the galactic core region, there is only one empire in that region of the galaxy, the Crystalline empire. if you want to see them, they will only spawn if the player, not AI, has the Void Dwellers origin there is around 1% chance for the enclave to spawns near the galactic core in a system called "The Outer Gate". I do believe this empire had created the caretaker AI
The class 30 singularity has to be what the zroni nearly created by expanding the galactic core, oh my god it all makes sense now. They are trying to stop the "Become the Crisis" ending
A class 30 singularity is a singularity (black hole) that has consumed a galaxy and is exerting pull on other galaxies. It's part of the goal (or at least inevitable consequences of) the Shroud entities.
Now i wonder, if paradox really wanted to create dynamic gameplay, when you claim 'central processing' and take over that system from the caretakers and rebuild a ringworld in that specific system and return the system back to the caretakers. Wouldn't it be cool if you can do that without destroying the caretakers and returning a fully functional ringworld back to the caretakers they would fix their programming and become an allied fallen empire? like I fixed your gpu now don't make me destroy you?
I always thought that it was cool that psychic, hive-minded, and synthetically ascendant species can't be infiltrated by Contingency synths like other empires. They'll try, but since psychic and hive-minded species can all feel each other's minds, they immediately recognize that infiltrating synths aren't part of their collective and attack them. Presumably it doesn't work on species that turned themselves into machines because they still have their minds that operate like organics despite being in mechanical bodies, and can recognize that the infiltrating synth isn't part of them. I also like taking out Steralization Hubs with a Planet Cracker, because while it doesn't give you the same living metal deposits that you get for just bombing them into oblivion, you get a special message for destroying them with a Planet Cracker. Plus, I mean, I already built it, and it would be quite a waste not to use it.
I once had the contingency cause a fallen AI empire to go berserk then they spawned right on top of them. both sides annyalated each other while I watched with my popcorn.
The ghost signal is such a great concept! It's like an elder god of the Cthulu mythos, subtly summoning minions... or cold war numbers stations like the soviet "woodpecker" signal that could be heard around the world... or "scrap code" from 40K. Terrifying idea 😅
Thank you, been years playing stellaris but only this channel provide the link between all the stories and event in the game that's seems unrelated in the first place but in fact all of it was linked together, the best channel for stellaris if you love role playing element of it
My personal theory about the contingency is that it was put in place as a last resort by the old cybrex, (the genocidal ones) which would explain why the new cybrex (the preservers) show up to oppose them when they have 20% galactic control. This would also explain the identical ships and unit designs. Also, if the contingency was put in place before the cybrex and hacked them to create the new cybrex, why would the new cybrex fight them? And if the cybrex that fight the contingency are the old cybrex, why do they just leave instead of completing their crusade against organics?
Isn't there the sealed system with a shroud avatar that is described as a typ 30 singularity? Also maybe the class 30 singularity is the end of the cycle and the contingency was build to prevent anyone from making a deal with it ever again?
@@TheRedKing To me the Zroni sound more like the later Crisis Aspirant--they wanted to become one with the Shroud, at the expense of all other life in the galaxy. A class 30 singularity has to be related to the shroud, given the Zroni and their history, likely being the first who almost transcended into one. Given that the shroud is the sister reality of the material plane it is likely that whatever a class 30 singularity is it would use them to destabilise eachother, likely merging them as such an event is the only one known of that fits the description of the contingency's one command. It is also possible that black holes are some kind of breach point between the material plane and the shroud, given accessing the shroud makes them grow, thus the name singularity.
To bad they almost never show up becouse you almost always get the Unbidden, since the Unbidden can spawn 50 years earlier then all the other crisis (or 25 if nobody has researched jump drives), this means that you almost always get the Unbidden.
I think Class 30's singularity is a reactor....because the fallen empire has a Class 4 singularity reactor on their planets after I invade their planet. Also I think if they manage to reach Class 30 singularity it will cause universe scale destruction.
Its to stop the creation of a god. It absolutely sounds like a specices evolved to become a god, which saw the raw power it had and decided that no one should have such power.
I imagine that the central processing system of the caretakers wasn't lost in war but that the star it orbitet went supernova and formed a black hole afterwards, which rendered them very weakened and let to them falling into a strong decline, which was followed by their ring worlds slowly declining and dying under their nose. This would explain why they still survived, as I imagine a war against the unbidden would have probably either be a big victory or a big loss, but not a phyrric victory as is suggested in the video
class 30 singularity is all 30 countries (max amount of ai empires in the max size galaxy setting) filling up the map so its basically a fourth wall break acknowledging that its a game
The class-30 singularity can’t be the technological singularity because the contingency is literally referring to a physical singularity, a black hole. A point in space of infinite density and mass, a literal hole in space-time. We know this because all fallen empires have a class-4 singularity which they use to generate power. So we can assume that this is a physical singularity and that singularities in the Stellaris universe vary from one another and fit into different categories. It also can’t be breaching the shroud because the contingency identifies machine civilizations as a threat as well as organics. The most likely thing it could be in game is the aetherophasic engine, and that the engine creates a class-30 singularity which destabilizes the fabric of the universe and destroys the galaxy.
The only thing that makes that make less sense to me is that one of the possible endings of the infinity machines story is that the black hole it was orbiting and indeed all black holes are infact wombs for new universes. So I don't see how a really big one is any more of a threat. Also how does a race become a black hole? Remember the contingency are on guard to stop a race becoming a class 30 singularity. Most likely for me is the become the crisis but I was also thinking it could be another type of being. Maybe an energy based but not psionic species like the unbidden?
See I used to believe this theory too but then, why doesn't the Contingency activate when you begin construction of the engine? Nothing you can do in-game activates them
@@pastachief385the contingency was corrupted could be that, or it could be that they are set on a specific cycle, yet our empires evolved faster than expected

@@deeplerg7913I think the reason is gameplay because else you could destroy or corner the contingency before they spawn, which strongly negates this crisis
Hay Red King you should go over the Contingency and the new Player Empire Crisis Path since it seems be that the Class-30 Singularity might be that, since it well disrupts the fabric of the universe and alters it.
The Contingency is similar to the original concept for the Mass Effect Reapers. The first two games implied that the core technologies of the advanced civilizations of the galaxy were accelerating entropy. The Reapers were intended to prevent that outcome. The AI controlling them ultimately decided that they must periodically cull the galaxy to accomplish that goal.

I'm just gonna say that a class 30 singularity, considering the contingency primarily targets organic species, is likely connected to psychics. Something all psychic species can achieve...? Well, there's only one such thing. And its called "The End of the Cycle".
I think it is ambiguous because ren-miruu was an AI that achieved a technological singularity and created the contingency before self-terminating. as it understood how much of a threat it and those who could achieve a class-30 singularity and it didn't want to risk the destruction of the universe in turn creating the contingency for it saw that other AIs wouldn't be amicable to the universe if they ascended. which would explain why the contingency isn't sure if their creator an AI or an organic being since it essentially ascended into a god with the capital G could you really still be called an AI?
@@winetofive1464 so, crackpot theory here. Question regarding 3:16 - What is the source of the claim that a superintelligent AI, the technological singularity, could reach literally infinite processing power, and within 4 years of their creation, of all things? Not that I'm want to argue with you about the logic behind that, just that I want to know what canon, quote, excerpt, or whatever, says that. First, if this is so, then what is the infinity machine having such a difficult time with? But also, thinking about a multicross where they eventually get to stellaris, and such a statement implies a *lot* about the physics of the stellaris universe. No Bremermann's limit, for instance.
There isn't any ingame reference to a technological singularity i'm afraid; I just went down a rabbit hole and stumbled into it, and as far as I could tell it hadn't been explored by anyone else before. The specific 4 year part came from Yudkowsky, Eliezer (1996). "Staring into the Singularity" :)
I think the problem with the infinity machine might be that it can't, or for some other reason doesn't, expand. but then there is this video about Jupiter Brains by Kyle Hill that everyone seems to get recommended now, and it's something that can -- theoretically -- outthink/outprocess/outcompute all the humans who have ever lived in less than a second. but who knows, maybe that's not actually that much processing power in the stellaris universe? also given that we can help the infinity machine by (seemingly) giving it the answer it's looking for in just a matter of years.
@@deeplerg7913 So, I am a hard sci-fi nerd. I read Orion's Arm. I am aware of the kinds of abilities we envision superintelligent AI to have. My question was specifically about the statement that the AI would have "infinite processing power". *That* implies a lot about the way physics works in the stellaris universe. Information in physics takes up space and is made of energy. Because of this, there is a fundamental limit to how fast any type of computation can be. The Bremermann limit. The theoretical limit to computation, if you focused 1kg of matter on pure speed of computation, counting all the various fluctuations or oscillations of all the quarks of all the particles in that kilogram. A 1kg hunk of material, with so much energy in its components they've become plasma, that runs at approximately 1 x 10^50 hz. The point at which, if you add more energy to the system to make it go faster, it becomes a black hole. The speed of computation is also limited by the speed of causality, C. The actual implications and effects of manipulating C can be confusing, but it's easy enough to realize "speed limit of causality implies speed limit of oscillation (hertz of computing)". The limit of 1 x 10^50hz per kilogram means that if you convert the entire Solar System (~2 x 10^30kg) into that pure max speed computronium, no room for any support structure, no room for even *basic computer memory, CPU cache equivalent*, you have a theoretical max speed of 2 x 10^80. Also remember that since the max speed of a single kilogram is 1 x 10^50hz, none of the kilograms of the entire "solar system computer" are running faster than that, you just have 2 x 10^30 parallel cores. (in fact, the actual "single core speed" equivalent of the 1 kg mass of plasma computronium is unknown, since this value combines all the oscillations of all the different particles, thus it means the value is actually the equivalent to the sum of all the parallel computation in that kilogram. But the claim in the video is *explicitly stated* to be "infinite processing power"... Which is why I wanted clarification on where that claim came from. Because, if true, it implies a lot about how the physics of the Stellaris universe work. I understand now that it's hyperbole.
Mmm i would say neither, it's an artifical structure built in a ring, often around a star. The idea is that people could live on it - some cool stuff on wikipedia if you're interested :)
I could see the argument that they believe the development of AI (which is what triggers their spawn) allows for that sort of technological singularity you talked about which could result in an empire building something like the needle or getting so knowledgeable about the shroud that the whole multiverse is in danger. If I remember correctly from one of your giga structures videos using the needle can result in an empire ending the cycles for everyone, and that seems like a technological end point the contingency MAY have been made to try and stop.

I like the theory that some people bring up that since multiple empires throughout the games history know that they in fact are in a game, that the class 30 singularity the contingency is stopping is the player directly ascending their own empire, a game crashing bug effectively stopping the simulation, or the late game lag from way too many pops.
but what if like i managed via the carful culling of a few select pops ever yr in the late game have never had a game crash ever other than when trying to load a modded game and a mod having a fit relating to others that may or may not edit the same thing
@@maxrander0101 you’re definitely taking the grimdark approach to preventing the late game lag lol.
This schizo talk is too intriguing
If this is true then there’s no way the shroud can exist
It is true, is a meme from the devs

That brings some connection with the Vultanum Star Assembly too, they believed they were living in a giant simulation and wanted to end their participation in it
Cybrex bailing the galaxy out at it's darkest hour is why this is the best endgame crisis. I would love if they expanded on this and made it a novel or short story.

Can you explain more?
It sounds quite interesting.
That suggests their programming had become corrupted.
it also confirms that the synthetics was one of their triggers, so this furthers The Red King's theory
Really Nice! My personal Theory is that the Contingency was a Part of the Cybrex. We know that the Cybrex had some Sort of Civil War and maybe the Contingency was the Exterminator Part of the Cybrex Intelligence. This would explain the Similarities in their Ships and Signals too.
Unfortunately the Cybrex is only 0.6 million years old, which isn't old enough barring time travel shenanigans. I personally think they are unrelated other than the Cybrex wanting to let organics live, but there are possibikities
I agree with you, except I think it was the contingency who came first, then after years or maybe eons of murdering and purging their way through the galaxy, some part of the contingency realised that THIS can't be the solution for the current problem nor any other problem.
Maybe the Unbbiden took out a few of the precursors
This theory is helped by the fact that the unbidden basically refer to themselves as hunters in their opening transmission to the galaxy
that's a very interesting thought on the prethoryn. from what I know, the unbidden are energy creatures. there's an event that can happen after you defeat the prethoryn and you have psionically ascended - the queen can sense something isn't right, and you notice a whole galaxy has gone dark. that ties in nicely with the unbidden's energy harvest...kind of? one caveat here - that would only work if the speed of light was basically instant in the stellaris universe. this might explain that the signal from the contingency appears throughout the galaxy instantly. this might explain the little text that you might get when you construct a dyson sphere near a spiritualist empire saying "hey! you just blocked our favorite star!". but the game also seems to contradict itself, though I'll have to dig deeper into some texts to see if what I'm remembering about this is correct.
@@deeplerg7913 what is its from the crisis ascension path thi g going off
@@deeplerg7913 The spiritualist empire very clearly states that "Although the light will not be seen from the surface of our planet for many generations, knowing that it is gone is sitll troublesome."
That isn't the exact quote, but they acknowledge that light travels at the speed of light, but our technology often employees quantum mechanics for communicaiton, and other things, allowing for the communication we have.
It would be cool!

A class 30 singularity has to be related to the shroud, given the Zroni and their history, likely being the first who almost transcended into one. Given that the shroud is the sister reality of the material plane it is likely that whatever a class 30 singularity is it would use them to destabilise eachother, likely merging them as such an event is the only one known of that fits the description of the contingency's one command. It is also possible that black holes are some kind of breach point between the material plane and the shroud, given accessing the shroud makes them grow, thus the name singularity.
I like the interpretation that a class 30 singularity is a aetherophasic engine
To bad they almost never show up becouse you almost always get the Unbidden, since the Unbidden can spawn 50 years earlier then all the other crisis (or 25 if nobody has researched jump drives), this means that you almost always get the Unbidden.
Setting it to 'All' is the way
I think Class 30's singularity is a reactor....because the fallen empire has a Class 4 singularity reactor on their planets after I invade their planet. Also I think if they manage to reach Class 30 singularity it will cause universe scale destruction.
Its to stop the creation of a god. It absolutely sounds like a specices evolved to become a god, which saw the raw power it had and decided that no one should have such power.
I'm pretty sure the Class-30 Singularity is the aetherophasic engine.
Could be!!

Pretty events are leading up to the contingency is rising in my galaxy right now so this couldn’t have come at a better time
Duuuuuude... this was siiiiiick. Love your stories. Keep it up man
Thanks! Will do!
The most likely thing it could be in game is the aetherophasic engine, and that the engine creates a class-30 singularity which destabilizes the fabric of the universe and destroys the galaxy.
it would be nice to have a crisis story pack one day. after all, it's a book game.

The AI controlling them ultimately decided that they must periodically cull the galaxy to accomplish that goal.

Question regarding 3:16 -
What is the source of the claim that a superintelligent AI, the technological singularity, could reach literally infinite processing power, and within 4 years of their creation, of all things?
Interesting take on the Contingency. Also at the risk of sounding ignorant, but is the 'Ring World'...a Dyson sphere or Planet ship?🤔
Mmm i would say neither, it's an artifical structure built in a ring, often around a star. The idea is that people could live on it - some cool stuff on wikipedia if you're interested :)

Because the contingency are intergalactic, I feel like they might be around to either stop the horizion needle or the galaxy wide end of the cycle.

I could see the argument that they believe the development of AI (which is what triggers their spawn) allows for that sort of technological singularity you talked about which could result in an empire building something like the needle or getting so knowledgeable about the shroud that the whole multiverse is in danger. If I remember correctly from one of your giga structures videos using the needle can result in an empire ending the cycles for everyone, and that seems like a technological end point the contingency MAY have been made to try and stop.

cybrex beta? fun fact, you can have a star eater crack it and they wouldn't care. for that reason, in the in-game texts I believe the second admiral more, the one who says that during the destruction of cybrex alpha the cybrex didn't fire a shot
“It can house 30 billion “ so what’s that 30 ? 300 pops ?
Who knows!
I think they are a little bit like the reapers from mass effect.
Could the class 30 singularity refer to the Aetherophasic Engine?
Yeah could be! But why would the contingency, who wipe out all life anyway, be bothered about that? The Engine is a weird one, probably because it was added later in the game. I think i'll do something on it seperately :)
@@TheRedKing Because the engine theoretically has the potential to destroy the entire universe?
@@ryanstewart2289 Perhaps, but the tooltip for the AE says Galaxy not universe and there are many instances of this. Whereas the Contingency specifically make reference to the fact they're not from our Galaxy... maybe an oversight, maybe not.
@@TheRedKing That's fair, I haven't read the actual tool tip since the one time I made the thing...in the only game that I ever technically finished.
Will you do a video like this on the prethoryn swarm?
Probably at some point :) I have done some more narrative stuff on the swarm though, there is a playlist somewhere
You didn't mention that the cybrex didn't just disappear. They left the galaxy because they were bombarded with requests to take part in various galaxy matters and conflicts. They're not interested in taking part and because their homeworld is known, they had to go away. Leaving cybrex alpha free for the taking.
"They left the galaxy because they were bombarded with requests to take part in various galaxy matters and conflicts." Wild speculation considering they were genocidal
@@TheRedKing I’m talking about after defeating the contingency.
Citizens of the galaxy: Since the Contingency is no longer a threat, we feel that our role in the galactic community has been played out. Our home system is now too well known for us to keep a low profile, and we are being flooded by demands for us to take sides in various minor interstellar conflicts. After much deliberation, we have decided that the only solution is for us to permanently depart the galaxy and seek a new home. We sincerely hope that you learn from the tragic mistakes of our past and learn to resolve your differences through peaceful means. Farewell.
This isn’t a speculation, it’s literally their dialogue. They’re not genocidal. They’re genocidal turned protective. If you play as determined exterminator they will lecture you about the value of life
Oh ok, i misunderstood what you meant... I thought you were referring to them as the precursor not when they come back to help with the contingency
11:58 I just watched that video before this one
I gotta ask, how did you do that stuff with camera? Like, moving freely?
I imagine that's perfect for taking some epic screenshots
open console and type "gamepad" with an xbox controller connected :)
How do you get the report of the Contingency wars of the custodian?
You don't, it's a story telling device
@@TheRedKing oh, lol.
My bad. Been listening to your stuff a while but this stuff still trips me up from time to time. Not complaining, they are good. Just sometimes confuse me.
this sounds more like an another expansion dlc for stellaris 🤔🤔🤔 .,
in lore wise , the story feels more like the story of battle star galactica 2004., the endless cycle of organics create machine , machine turns against it creators ., without proper robot ethics the cycle repeats itself 🤔🤔🤔
i wonder if the class 30 singularity is cosmogenesis
I suspect not, as other the Contingency would have fired to "save" us
banger vid
Cheers buddy!!
