The cool thing about the Play-Choice 10 is that the owner had the ability to swap the carts for new ones to give the arcade game new life. The new games were advertised by a little aluminum display on top of the cabinet. Also, prior to releasing Super Mario Bros. 3 on the NES in the USA, Nintendo first made it available to play on the Play-Choice 10. They did so to boost cart sales. (like that was necessary courtesy of The Wizard) Also, the ROM for Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! was a little different. The ROM was coded so that you enter a unique password prior to playing so that when you came back, you can pick up where you left off. Since the Play-Choice 10 was nothing more than a Pay-For-Play NES, people have developed adaptors so that you can plug-n-play standard NES carts. When that is done, the slot where you plugged in the NES cart shows up at question marks, I think, on the upper monitor/game select screen. Two final bits of trivia, the Play-Choice 10, was either new cabinets or a modified Punch-Out!! cabinet. And there was even a countertop/ bar-top version. You can see this style by viewing this YT vid. th-cam.com/video/Tq7hF8ROBls/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=GeekWithSocialSkills One last thing you can use cheat codes. Prime example. The 30 Lives code for Contra will work without fail. To answer your question, Rick, Like Edwards as Jimmy, was playing Double Dragon on the Play-Choice 10 in the restaurant.
Yeah the Neo-Geo cabinets had cartridge swap also. Makes this even more compelling. I will never forget seeing the intro to Super Mario Bros. 3 and having the opportunity to play it a while before it was available outside of Japan. So many memories.
PlayChoice-10 was the only reason why I got to see and play Super Mario Bros. 3 way before it came out of Japan. Didn’t see very many of them back in the day. An arcade in a local bowling alley my friends and I used to hang out at had one. The other titles didn’t catch our attention at all because we either had them or could rent them. The Super Mario 3 intro got us all excited and I clearly remember seeing it for the very first time. Watching raccoon Mario fly through the air and collecting coins. This is why the PlayChoice-10 arcade cabinet brings back memories.
I'm very happy for you. It looks awesome and I'm sure you're gonna enjoy the hell out of it. Now you gotta get the one with Goonies II on it. That one was my personal favorite.
Ok I'll be the one to say this, those Power Rangers in the Retro Rick's Game Point loco look like they have bucket shaped helmets and I find this humorous and cheesy in a good way. I love it, good work Jacob : ).
Got to see the store for the first time since you took over, it looks amazing!! I've been going their and taking my kids there's for years. We all loved it . keep up the good work man !!!!!!!!
I really like how your OCD LOL keeps your store so clean and straight. Plus, the way you show your games and toys because of it it's easier for people to find what they're looking for.
I remember playing that machine when I was a kid at a pizza place called Mr. Gattis back in 89. It's where I learned about the first ninja turtles game. Lotta memories!
Play Choice 10 was Nintendos way of getting people to try games before they even made it to cartridges. Mario was a big one on Play Choice 10. You could switch out the games that were in the cabinet.
Omg Rick I absolutely love your store.. me and my wife are gonna take a drive from Biloxi, MS to see ur amazing store and I’ll have tons of money to spend especially the power rangers and tmnt stuff lol..I just LOVE your store
Really enjoy your channel as a child of the 80-90’s! And I get you have a business now that has bills to pay but I don’t really want to see a commercial for your store. What I mean is I don’t really need to see how you stocked your shelves or what you have in boxes yet to put out. Customer interactions, and hunting/collecting is super fun to watch tho.
I want to say one thing that it's awesome your store is looks different and full every time. That's how you make the money just keep rotating that stock and rotate with the seasons. That's where all those ad posters and stuff you bought the other day on the other video LOL that you can use Springtime winter whatever right on!
I can remember when the arcade I went to as a young lad closed it's doors. One day it was open and then I can remember being excited we were going to the mall and my mom breaking the news to me that the arcade was closed and was no more. I think the mall even went a little downhill as well.
As I patiently wait for an online store from Retro Rick. I will make my way up to the store during my vacation and take about 500 bucks to gladly spend there.. for now.
I got a nearly new countertop spinning locking display perfect for handhelds or high-end games for sale. I had a game store at my flea market but pulled out during covid. You can fit like 30 handhelds systems in it, gameboys, ds, 3Ds, etc. I paid 250 slish after shipping from an online auction. looking to get 125. Only problem is in in ny
My wife and daughter went into the store today. She really liked the store but loved your personality!! She would've been really impressed if you had the JAM lunchbox.
I remember playing Goonies on a Play Choice 10 or something similar. It was the first Goonies that was only released on Famicom in Japan. I never ever saw the game again. I didn't even realize it was a Famicom game back then. I just thought it was this crazy arcade. Years went by and I started to think I imagined the whole thing and that this Goonies "arcade" game didn't actual exist. Not until about 6 or so years ago when I found it was real and it was released in Japan on the Famicom. The other time I remember playing one in the arcade, but it just had games I already had at home and you could only play it for a couple of minutes. Even if you were really good at the game. I didn't like that it was time based play. Anyways, that's my nostalgia for the Play Choice 10.
I'm loving what you have done with the store, Rick! That Turtles banner is friggin SWEET! It looks so good! Also funny that someone brought in a Nomad, I was just watching Morts channel and he had just picked one up as well! Merry Christmas to you my guy!
I first see mario in Mallorca 1986 in a Arcade u could hear the noise about 10 kids around it thought it was Arcade version little did I know it was just a nes inside until 30 year's later
I got that same case...I got mine from my gamestop. I get so much cool stuff from them. I'm really hoping I get the switch demo sets they got. I've def made it very clear I want them lol. So....down the line.....here's hoping lol.
You got the coolest store for somebody like me who is nostalgic but don't remember all these toys if I walked into your store I might think they were new and not 90s just a suggestion maybe you should put the era of the toys above them.
I just realized "Game Point" is a double entendre. It's a center/place of interest, "point", but it's also a term that means you're 1 point away from winning a game. (the game point). That's actually kinda cool. Lol
1. The banner is in the PERFECT spot in the store.
2. That arcade hits me straight in the feels. So freaking nostalgic for me homie
Such a great group of people! This is my new favorite channel.

Your Gaming Store is the most impressive/awesome store I've ever seen. I get so hype watching!😁

I got one of those playchoice 10s with the zapper and a bunch of games for almost free back when nobody cared about this stuff lol
Glad you found the perfect spot for the banner! We had the same feeling when hanging it up the first time in Empire!
I remember playing that machine when I was a kid at a pizza place called Mr. Gattis back in 89. It's where I learned about the first ninja turtles game. Lotta memories!
First time ever seeing a arcade like that. That's awesome
Play Choice 10 was Nintendos way of getting people to try games before they even made it to cartridges. Mario was a big one on Play Choice 10. You could switch out the games that were in the cabinet.

Man that cabinet is so sweet!
Nice GameStop cabinet, I picked one up myself from my local GS when they phased out retro handhelds.
As I patiently wait for an online store from Retro Rick. I will make my way up to the store during my vacation and take about 500 bucks to gladly spend there.. for now.
My childhood Drs office had a single screen version of that play choice 10.
You are sooo much happy with this new store ,its great to see you succeed in the things that make ya happy.
You need an online store eventually!!!
So much retro stuff that is literally impossible to find in Australia :(
Retro Power Rangers.... insane

Almost witnessed Glass Joe's first ever win on camera.lol
I'm loving what you have done with the store, Rick! That Turtles banner is friggin SWEET! It looks so good! Also funny that someone brought in a Nomad, I was just watching Morts channel and he had just picked one up as well! Merry Christmas to you my guy!
I like how you decorated the statues for Christmas
You need more arcade games! I have over 20 in my basement. Rebuild the base for it!
all the way from the U.K. I am very happy for you thank you
Great pick up man! I remember playing it at the local pizza place when I was a kid.
When does the store turn a profit??? Or is just another extension to his collecting it seems
I first see mario in Mallorca 1986 in a Arcade u could hear the noise about 10 kids around it thought it was Arcade version little did I know it was just a nes inside until 30 year's later
He sounds and talks just like Danny McBride. Too funny
This place should just be a museum.
Make sure those lights aren't gonna melt or discolor that banner. Especially if only 2 exist.
Bloody awsome :D
1uparcade is working on talks with Nintendo to make a Mario bros arcade machine. Can't wait I hope it happens
As an arcade collector, I'm always hoping to trade my gems for a Playchoice 10. Congrats, Rick!
Alot of memories playing these titles 🥲
@Telagrem_Me_TheRetroLife5372 scammer
my spinner is my most prinzed possesion lol. prolly started flip phone idea too
Yessss! So stoked. I kept saying you should get some arcade games. Play choice is epic! Maybe in the future you could get a 720 or paper boy.
I wish I would have gotten a 720 but now the prices are insane! I had no idea prices would be like this.
@@selbyjohnson5986Prices are high now!
Merry Christmas Retro Family!
Turtle sign should be hung over the vhs where you keep the turtle videos..
I got that same case...I got mine from my gamestop. I get so much cool stuff from them. I'm really hoping I get the switch demo sets they got. I've def made it very clear I want them lol. So....down the line.....here's hoping lol.
I've actually played on that game before not that particular one but one just like it when I was a kid younger LOL
Spin Fighters should come out with a Pop Socket! You could fight in our free time using your phone ...
Nice! I have the countertop version.
You got the coolest store for somebody like me who is nostalgic but don't remember all these toys if I walked into your store I might think they were new and not 90s just a suggestion maybe you should put the era of the toys above them.
your story looks so sick bro
I'd invest in a rolling metal security door for the front.
I just realized "Game Point" is a double entendre. It's a center/place of interest, "point", but it's also a term that means you're 1 point away from winning a game. (the game point).
That's actually kinda cool. Lol
the kingdom hearts in the background>>>
The Wii U with a Zelda print on the pad did come with a digital edition of Wind Waker

Maligayang pasko, kapatid
I've seen sneaker stores where they buy sneakers. they have a stand for the camera sitting on the counter to film. This way you have both hands.
