  • After my first impression and review of the 2022 Yamaha MT09 V3, I reflected the experience and compare it with my own 2020 Honda CB650R in this video where I share some preference, pros and cons of both bikes.
    Both are naked sports bikes which is my current favourite category of motorcycles and I will share whether the latest MT09 is a worthy candidate to upgrade from my CB650R.

    Guys, don't spent time choosing. I had mt07 for 1 year and was never happy with it. Even on day one. Now I bought cb650r and I am more than satisfied. It is better in each and every aspect - supension, chassis, 4cylinder, (quickshifter). It is more comfortable, powerful, better quility build and even consume less gasoline (haha). The one only thing that was better at mt07 is external temperature sensor. So it is really no brainer - cb650r.

      Wow glad you thought so man. I have yet tried the MT07 and always wondered if it’s better. MOTOBOB recently had a video showing us pros and cons and he ended up picking the MT07. That got me wondering.

      everyone will have their own opinion, theres alot of factors involved when it comes to many aspects of motorcycling, Ive had the mt07 naked the 2021 model, mt09 2nd gen, cb650r, and now the mt09sp 2023. The mt09sp is far superior then this cb650r in every way possible, high build quality, x axis imu, whole host of rider aids, cruise controll, top quality premium suspension and its getting slightly more fuel economy then the cb650r i had even though it has much much more power and torque, the mt09sp also feels like a true race naked bike unlike the honda, the honda just felt very uncomfortable and small for me, and also too bulky, I’m 5ft 11 btw and weigh about 65kg. Ive tried many bikes over the years and in conclusion the MT09sp 2021 and above are perfect for road performance.

    Beautiful review! I ride an MT07, my dream bike has been the MT09 for a long time. Just recently heard of the cb650r. I love the looks. I love the MT07 but it really feels like a hooligan bike, at low speeds it is very twitchy always asking you to rev and ride it harder. Fun for ocasions but i want something i can ride smoother at low speeds for commute but still have good power for highway and some long day rides. So im undecided between this and mt09 lol

    Change the brake lines on our bike to braided lines (with a line to each caliper) and upgrade the pads and it changes the brake feel completely! I’ve swapped out my handlebars, risers, grips, levers, brake lines, mirrors, exhaust, and a few other components and it’s completely changed the bike into a monster!

    • @RUBBERNMETAL
      @RUBBERNMETAL  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a great idea and always in planning for me. What pads and lines did you get specifically? I’m also thinking of getting drag bars on mine. Did you change the master cylinder too?

    • @danmccormick87
      @danmccormick87 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RUBBERNMETAL I used Core Moto CBR600RR 2013-2021 braided lines (they fit, that’s what I’m rocking!) and add some length to them (I don’t remember how much I added exactly, I messaged them the stock length and used a string to run down my bars to calculate the needed length). As far as pads, run the Sintered Pads! I didn’t change the master cylinder or calipers, the setup (non-abs) seems to do enough I can lock up the tires with no issue and slide the bike if I want, while giving me enough gradual bite to slow down quick enough to control the bike. No longer spongy or soft feeling. For handlebars, I used the Pro Taper universal oversized risers (had to trim the threads on the bottom about 1/4” off to allow it to clear) and Pro Taper Evo bars (and they can be trimmed down in width), with Rizoma Sport grips and CRG Lane Splitter bar end mirrors (no more Honda balance weights, but no major vibration issues, not even in mirrors due to dirt bike style handlebars)

    I have the cb650r I find the brakes are sharp but no feel. The front forks dive too much & rear suspension jumps when it hits a pothole. I have changed the OEM Dunlop for Michelin R6 tyres & handles much better in the wet. For its 650cc it is good value & 4 into 1 pipes are classic Honda.

    I don't know why you got that wobble. I don't have that problem with my 2021 MT-09. Perhaps the bike you rode had suspension problems? The CB650 isn't even in the same league but for the price. Trading is particular to each one's situation/taste. But, buying new, the MT-09 is a no brainner deal, just best bag for the buck. I test rode the street triple and it just lacks the MT-09 torq and fun factor that comes with it. My 2 cents.

    • @RUBBERNMETAL
      @RUBBERNMETAL  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea you could have a point there maybe the wobble is particular to the bike I rode. Also the fact that I came so close to buying the previous gen MT09 cos the price was similar to the CB650 but on looks alone I decided to go for the CB. Same case for the street triple I just kept looking at it and couldn’t accept the bug eye haha.

    As a owner of mt09 2021 coming from cb500x 2019 which was stable no matter what you do to the bike, mt09 was painfully unstable at first, but that was only at first and beginning..Later on how I progress and mature with the bike, bike holds the line in curves like crazy, does exactly what you wanted to do, it's flickable, sharp and precise at any speeds. Front end feel was mayor concern for me also, didn't want to overtake cars with too much throttle and in mid turn pull a power wheelie and maybe crash because of that. Yamaha electronics do exactly that, it keeps you safe and planted with slide control, tcs and lift control. My was set on 1 from 3 for all of electronics setup which is least intervention. Tried ride with everything turn off in M or manual mode and bike becomes hulk on steroids. You really want electronics to do it's job if you wanna ride safe and fast. That’s great. Hope it only happens on the test bike. Cos it’s not a good feel.

    The CP3 engine is the more fun engine that makes daily commute way more fun and engaging, but unfortunately for Yamaha, it is wrapped in a cheaper feeling and looking bike that for me does not make the engine justice. Looks are subjecjective, but super important. If we could take the cp3 and put it inside of the cb650..that would be the perfect bike. Immagine a honda made inline triple. As long as Yamahas material quality and component quality stays the way it has been for a while now, it will be a lower tier product. Rusting swingarms, cheap plastics, cheaper suspension, paint technology is shit, the only thing they know how to make well is the engine. Too bad, hope they work on that and they start operating on full potential.

      That’s definitely how it felt like to me. That CP3 engine is a masterpiece even after riding Ducatis and other more expensive bikes. Wouldn’t be Honda to make an engine so playful tho. Honda seems to be more ‘mature’ and would probably tune it to be more linear if they ever did a similar engine. And yes Honda would do it properly.
      I guess other quality issues do not show up in the spec sheet so it’s less of a concern and this bike will sell well anyways.
      Let’s hope Honda comes out with something to compete with.

      Oh yes the 2022 XSR900…. Sadly the Yamaha dealer here doesn’t see the potential of that bike where I live so they won’t be bringing them in.

      Design matters to me a lot and the CB650R personally looks way better hence it’s still the CB650R for me. But… if the XSR900 was available here… that would be a different story.
