    Sorry for the different feeling audio. I'm going to be experimenting for awhile to slash the stress & time involved in preparing for these videos so I can do them with less delay, greater frequency, and a much more comfortable & casual attitude every time.

    I have to admit, I still miss the big skycraper and downtown. But when I remember this isn't a Lego city, it's a Lego model railroad... it 100% is the right decision. This layout shows the trains and makes a world for the trains so well, and reminds me of the old model railroad displays I would see at conventions as a kid. Well done, keep doing what makes you happy and make your vision its your world!

    Love the bold decisions you’ve made. I’m planning a Lego “city” without the city. Just trains, docks, and lots of construction vehicles/materials, with frames of houses under construction and loads of green space for campsites, forestry operations, kayaking etc.

    Hey Jang, just commenting to show my support for your project here! I’m glad you seem more satisfied and relieved with your layout, the fact you’ve made trains your main attraction really makes me happy for you. The Easter eggs of the gem store and mall, as a viewer from when you were still Lego Jang, really means a lot. I’ve been watching since the second grade, back when I hated school and only wanted to play with LEGOs all day. I graduate from college in two weeks, but your work ethic, commitment, and above all positivity have been an appreciated constant in my life. I hope you continue enjoying your projects Jang, and I hope you know how many lives you’ve influenced for the better. You’re the reason this platform has an argument to keep going, to build a better community.

    Damn, this is coming along nicely! I always loved watching you build this city when I was younger. And now seeing you happier because you're doing what you want and not what others want you to do makes this even more enjoyable to watch, It's becoming so much more unique and personalised. The audio sounded good btw.

    i must have missed some videos because your city concept has drastically changed. Good for you! It's hard to accept downsizing and de-densifying, but once you do so it can be liberating.

  • @KidarWolf

    I like the different audio, Jang, it feels more personal and like I'm getting to just enjoy your Lego city as if I'm visiting myself.
    I love the idea of adding some "breathing space" in the layout, I think it's something Lego builders seem to especially struggle to do. Yes, compression has to happen to fit things in, but that only works if it also has some space to just rest your eyes for a bit, otherwise the compression can be a bit overwhelming. Since you're aiming more toward a Lego model railway, that "empty space" is super important to help convey that a railway is a transit system running over miles upon miles of open space, so I'm really excited to see how it changes the way the city itself looks when that's done. With what you're describing, it's giving me some big Pennsylvania vibes from my time living there, so I'm super excited to see what you do with regards to greenery, trees, etc. on those hills.

    Jang, I have followed you for decade-plus (my boy/girl twins, about age 4 then, got me into LEGO and the girl onto your channel; both start college in fall!). I have loved each iteration of your cities. I am SUPER excited about your new emerging reconfiguration -- with emphasis on trains/train yards. I'm interested in YOUR ideas and creations (I have my own ideas/creations/city) -- this is why I watch your channel. Thank you for the reviews and your MOCs.

    It was jarring at first seeing the drastic changes to the city. But it’s nice to see something different from the here’s the latest modular and now to move things around to fit it in cities. The model railroad inspiration comes out more and more with the changes. It’s nice see you excited again. I can’t wait to see the next upadate.

    Very interesting changes. Hills and nature are great ways to break up scenes and add a more interesting visual flow, I feel they are often undervalued in that regard in big LEGO builds because “they aren’t as exciting” (although maybe not undervalued in model railroads.)
    Can’t wait to see what comes of this, now if only TH-cam would recommend these to me as they came out, I don’t know why it isn’t :( maybe this comment will help.

    The way you’re setting up the road parallel with the railway and the buildings across the road would look good on sideways train POVs. The passing siding next to those hills reminds me of model railway recreations of different mountain passes on the Union Pacific or Santa Fe

    I understand your layout is a walk around style, but any thoughts on using (what they call in model railroading) lego building flats? Just the fronts to give the illusion of a city and more room for less city? Great vid btw.

    • @JANGcity
      @JANGcity  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +18

      Definitely considered many times! So far though, like you said, the fact that it's a full 360 walk-around layout has mandated 3D builds. If I could do a wall based layout I'd do flats for sure, but I'd need a room 2x as large to accommodate the rail turnaround loops.Gotta work with what I've got, which honestly is already something I must be very thankful for.

    I'm really loving just how your letting your imagination run wild in a way I guess you feel you haven't been able to do in years. The fact that you're doing what you want to do shows, and even at this stage the layout just makes so much sense - clear residential, commercial and industrial districts, buildings that make a lot more sense next to each other, and good amounts of terrain to provide natural breaks between them. Really excited to see this take shape!

    • @JANGcity
      @JANGcity  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Yeah I find MILS to be extraordinarily overrated and think the majority of folks who use it do so because other folks did, not because they've really evaluated the solid pros and numerous cons versus their own needs & wants. I've moved so many things so many times (including the entire layout from one house to another) and haven't once yet wished I started with MILS. Much easier to tap into my under-table wiring this way too.

    I know how you feel about the emergency services. I had a full police station taking up a massive back corner of my city, and decided to replace it with a proper "skyscraper" type building for the backdrop. Now my police station is relegated to just the ground floor, with a very small sign in the window, a holding cell, and a reception desk. I even nixed the helipad on top so I could use it for "taxi aircraft" since my city is designed with a "1990s smart city" aesthetic. All in all, I really enjoy the playability aspect of your city and I'm very excited to see where you go with it!

    Call me crazy, but I consider greenery and rail lines to BE efficient use of space. Hills, trees, and plants are all important 'stuff' that many cities forget. I follow a bunch of 'traditional' model railroaders and have seem many of them switch from complicated layouts with tons of switches and buildings to larger sweeping features with more scenery over time. (Everard Junction comes to mind.) It feels better and it makes for much better video/photo shots of the trains running. Can't wait to see how this new Lego layout develops.

    @JonatanGronoset 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Jang, what you've been banging your head against is what model railroaders have been fighting for as long as the hobby have been around: dream vs space.
    For most people it's not that common to have room for an enormous layout, but the dream to "have it all" as it were is still there so the average modeller tries to cram as much as they can into what space (often something like 10x4ft) they can afford in their home, the result ends up cluttered and ugly and maybe not even enjoyable to play with.
    The key is to allow yourself to compromise the dream and accept that you can't have it all, but instead focus on the most important aspects of the dream, then fit those into your layout.
    You're doing a great job on that journey and I know you'll find the road to success, then just sit back and enjoy your creation with peace of mind you may not have it all, but you have the bits that matter the most to you.
    Keep up the great work on _your_ railroad. 🚂
