You have your motor wired in reverse, I have the same lathe, if you look in the LaBlond manual it gives the description on the control lever, This is directly from the manual, page 9 from "Running a Regal "The extreme up position of the handle will revolve the spindle in reverse. The extreme down position of the handle will revolve the spindle forward." From top to bottom REVERSE, COAST, BREAK, COAST, FORWARD.
