Happen to know what the Marshall and Hilscher Machine Tools Chicago U.S.A. Maltese Cross represents? I have one of those on a Patented 1884 Horizontal Mill, said to be from the Ford Plant in Kingsford MI.

The black wrinkle finnish on the drive motors always reminds me of two great bikes , the Suzuki GSX1100EF ( gs1150) and the twin cams

The drill was rotated too far back in the chuck jaws. I ran these for years. There is supposed to be two alignment marks in the chuck jaw, rotate the drill so the OD is centered up between the marks and close the chuck. Then lower the guage, release the drive lock and rotate the chuck to make the lip parallel to the guage. Re-engage the drive and grind. That way the chisel angle will come out to the correct angle and you'll get the correct relief on the drill.

I watch these videos with a little sadness and always think about if that area could talk. such incredible setup in the sense that when you do this sort of work it's your life passion and when you have the end of days so to speak someone comes in and takes it most times pennies on the dollar if it was at an estate type auction. Good for the new owner cuz they got a "good deal" but just shows what a person's life passion is worth to most people around them. just a sad vicious circle. I suspect all my equipment it will go much the same.... but congrats non the less

Very cool. I hope these videos help people understand that when you buy a piece of used machinery you aren't just paying for the machine. You are paying for the time it took to get the the machine, the diesel in the truck, the insurance, the wear on the tires and a million other things. They all add up.

If it was a horizontal boring mill, the horizontal spindle would have a quill. It is just a normal mill. Not the same Heald as the grinder people, as I understand. --Doozer

Fantastic machine. Had one for 22 years. We also had more noise from #5, & #6

If you need a new pulley, Speed Selector makes variable speed pulleys that replace the Reeves, Hi-Lo, TB Woods and Lovejoy pulleys that went out of business or got bought. Most of the pulleys are in stock or Speed Selector will custom make if needed. They have an actual engineering department who were very helpful.

What does the small lever to the left of the power levers do?

Do you happen to have the manual for this? I just acquired a boice crane cs30/s which I THINK is the same as this but haven’t been able to find any manuals for it…

You have your motor wired in reverse, I have the same lathe, if you look in the LaBlond manual it gives the description on the control lever, This is directly from the manual, page 9 from "Running a Regal "The extreme up position of the handle will revolve the spindle in reverse. The extreme down po­sition of the handle will revolve the spindle forward." From top to bottom REVERSE, COAST, BREAK, COAST, FORWARD.
