Indian Railways just getting rid of ICF coaches. But Gujarat state in India getting rid of both ICF and LHB coaches. Now Gujarat is in next stage having dedicated freight trains, bullet trains, express ways, smart cities competing world famous cities. All Europe America Japan style infrastructure in Gujarat.
In my personal experience on Konkan Railway found ICF to be quiter Maybe naye LHB ka break in nahi hua hoga although i have travelled over multiple months
That is because LHB are more stiff and rigid especially the upper part. The noise mentioned is from outer perspective, especially when bogies pass over joints
It's because LHB uses Centre Buffer Coupler which is safer but more jerky. The screw coupling in ICF coaches makes more comfortable in general despite ICF coaches having a worse suspension because the coupling doesn't expand when the train accelarates or contract when the train breaks. This happens with CBC couplings of LHB. The Indian Railways railways has recognised this problem and are fixing it by adding draft gear in the coaches to dampen the movement because of the coupling. LHB coaches still have a big drawback in comfort. When the train brakes, due to lack of dampers between the coaches, a sharp jerk is felt when people are sleeping. The next version of coaches should come up with a solution to cushion linear brake forces. People who have traveled in rajdhani or duranto will know.

@@satvikrayal3839 in India its max 180kmph, trains runing at 240 kmph has better buffer and better ride quality. Some Cars can also run at a speed upwards of 300kmph but they don't yeet their occupants out through the wind shield in case of an abrupt stop.

If a system cannot mitigate or lessen the negative effect of an simple physical law it is considered to a poorly engineered system.
Let me give you an insight from a ministry perspective. The selection of ICF over LHB and the delay in replacement is precisely because ICF are more expensive to produce, procure, induct and overall they require more maintenance. This may seem counter intuitive to us but every procurement or subsequent maintenance contracts present opportunities for the people involved to get kickbacks. This is also the reason why Indian roads are in terrible condition.
I remember watching a period war film- The Boy In Striped Pajamas, and I realized Indian train sleeper coaches used to be exactly similar to World War II military coaches. I mean, Indian trains are OLD.

One Correction regarding Speed Limits: 1. Normal/Non-EOG ICF coaches are rated at 110 kmph while EOG-based ICF coaches that run on Garib Rath's are fit for 130 kmph. All Janshatabdi ICF Coaches are fit for 120 kmph.
Informative video. Brakes were never hydraulic in recent past, they were always pneumatic(that's why you see air breaks written). The old brakes were external brakes and were applied directly in the wheel. Now they are using discs but process of application is pneumatic. Another factor was the body of the Integral Coach Factory boogies. The curve seen at the bottom end of the body is costly to manufacture, fit and replace during overhauling done in 1.5 to 2 years. They have now changed the design and it is a simple wedge now.

Most important difference is this old coaches have heavy duty lead acid batteries which were the source of power for lighting fans and even the AC units, These were charged by an generator and inverter set connected to the wheel axle by a belt. During idle time of the train these batteries are charged through a plug point on the platform. Lead is a very costly metal plus they poisonous that they will pollute the environment. moreover these lead acid batteries need to be replaced often during the life of the coach and need replacement often. Now the LHB Coaches do not have any heavy lead acid batteries but much smaller batteries for emergency lighting only. Power for lighting, fans and the AC units is supplied from the diesel generators at the end-on-generator cars and now in many trains these generator cars are kept only on standby mode and poser comes from the electric locomotive by HOG technology

What many don't realise that the generator on every bogie has a drag effect which increases the load on the loco ( Law of conservation of energy Ie energy cannot be generated, it can only be converted). It's like you have a road truck which has a weight of 15 tons, so even when the truck is empty, it's engine is still hauling 15 tons during every moment. This is the main reason LHB coaches are lighter and faster as all electric generation is done independent of the trains locomotion. Now the loco just has to move the train so it can reach higher speeds safely without overloading.
Old coaches manufactured in ICF is the patent from m/s swiss car Ltd. It should not be named as ICF coaches . as ICF is now manufacturing LHB coaches of Max imum of 2000 coaches a year which is actually 25 coches a day . Original ICF Coaches were made with technology from Switzerland in early 1950s. Earlier to that time coaches were made as base chasis and body constructed on top with wooden body. thise broke up very easily in case of an accident. Hence this Swiss technology was imported to make single piece steel body coach with two bogies to hold underneath which held two axles. Hence called. Integrated coach or Integral coach made at the first ICF factory at Perambur near Chennai

First make separate compartment for toilet or partion (like wise in AC coaches). passenger face so many unhealthy atmosphere during travelling. if any Covid active person used toilet and forgot to flush then No LHB or ICF will save. this is also safety measures.

The one thing that your LHB coaches can never provide to passengers is the comfort in LHB there is very less place in toilets and also have worst side suspension if anyone standing near gate and waiting for its station platform and if loses grip might have higher chances to fell off from the train and last but not the least many times their are worst jerk when brakes are applied Feels like train will be derailed. But still some idiots will say LHB have great security features to prevent accident then go to flashbacks of Balasore Oddisa rail accident

LHB coaches still have a big drawback in comfort. When the train brakes, due to lack of dampers between the coaches, a sharp jerk is felt when people are sleeping. The next version of coaches should come up with a solution to cushion linear brake forces.

@@satvikrayal3839 in India its max 180kmph, trains runing at 240 kmph has better buffer and better ride quality. Some Cars can also run at a speed upwards of 300kmph but they don't yeet their occupants out through the wind shield in case of an abrupt stop.

If a system cannot mitigate or lessen the negative effect of an simple physical law it is considered to a poorly engineered system.
Let me give you an insight from a ministry perspective.
The selection of ICF over LHB and the delay in replacement is precisely because ICF are more expensive to produce, procure, induct and overall they require more maintenance.
This may seem counter intuitive to us but every procurement or subsequent maintenance contracts present opportunities for the people involved to get kickbacks.
This is also the reason why Indian roads are in terrible condition.

The problem with the newer coaches is due to different couplings, there are jerks felt whenever the train accelerates or decelerates.
There are different couplings but they require pressure hydraulic lines which are very costly. Maybe in next 30 years.

ICF coach ko directly sprint joint ke uper place karte hai however lhb me suspension thoda complicated aur jyada volume leti hai. So the coach portion is place on top of a flat plate above bogie assembly, islye more height

One Correction regarding Speed Limits:
1. Normal/Non-EOG ICF coaches are rated at 110 kmph while EOG-based ICF coaches that run on Garib Rath's are fit for 130 kmph. All Janshatabdi ICF Coaches are fit for 120 kmph.

Brakes were never hydraulic in recent past, they were always pneumatic(that's why you see air breaks written). The old brakes were external brakes and were applied directly in the wheel. Now they are using discs but process of application is pneumatic.
Another factor was the body of the Integral Coach Factory boogies. The curve seen at the bottom end of the body is costly to manufacture, fit and replace during overhauling done in 1.5 to 2 years. They have now changed the design and it is a simple wedge now.

Most important difference is this old coaches have heavy duty lead acid batteries which were the source of power for lighting fans and even the AC units, These were charged by an generator and inverter set connected to the wheel axle by a belt. During idle time of the train these batteries are charged through a plug point on the platform. Lead is a very costly metal plus they poisonous that they will pollute the environment. moreover these lead acid batteries need to be replaced often during the life of the coach and need replacement often. Now the LHB Coaches do not have any heavy lead acid batteries but much smaller batteries for emergency lighting only. Power for lighting, fans and the AC units is supplied from the diesel generators at the end-on-generator cars and now in many trains these generator cars are kept only on standby mode and poser comes from the electric locomotive by HOG technology

What many don't realise that the generator on every bogie has a drag effect which increases the load on the loco ( Law of conservation of energy Ie energy cannot be generated, it can only be converted).
It's like you have a road truck which has a weight of 15 tons, so even when the truck is empty, it's engine is still hauling 15 tons during every moment.
This is the main reason LHB coaches are lighter and faster as all electric generation is done independent of the trains locomotion. Now the loco just has to move the train so it can reach higher speeds safely without overloading.

Old coaches manufactured in ICF is the patent from m/s swiss car Ltd. It should not be named as ICF coaches . as ICF is now manufacturing LHB coaches of Max imum of 2000 coaches a year which is actually 25 coches a day . Variants of LHB ,3phase emu's, Demu's,8wheel tower wagon ,SPART, air-conditioned emu's oscillograph coaches, self propelled inspection cars and Nilgiri mountain railway coaches vista dome etc👍

Original ICF Coaches were made with technology from Switzerland in early 1950s. Earlier to that time coaches were made as base chasis and body constructed on top with wooden body. thise broke up very easily in case of an accident. Hence this Swiss technology was imported to make single piece steel body coach with two bogies to hold underneath which held two axles. Hence called. Integrated coach or Integral coach made at the first ICF factory at Perambur near Chennai

First make separate compartment for toilet or partion (like wise in AC coaches). passenger face so many unhealthy atmosphere during travelling. if any Covid active person used toilet and forgot to flush then No LHB or ICF will save. this is also safety measures.

The one thing that your LHB coaches can never provide to passengers is the comfort in LHB there is very less place in toilets and also have worst side suspension if anyone standing near gate and waiting for its station platform and if loses grip might have higher chances to fell off from the train and last but not the least many times their are worst jerk when brakes are applied
