Hi, thank you, great video. I just purchased both of these mics and will take them outside tomorrow for a road and windnoise test. Its hard to tell which one sounds better. I think I could do better overall, but I love the simplicity of no wires or batteries as that is going to make it much easier for my wife to use.
I do have one issue and contacted Sony about it. We have the Bridge RX10M4 camera. It is 24 - 600mm and as I zoom in and out in a quiet room, I can hear the low rumble of the Servo motor in the audio. Sony is aware of it and they do not really have a solution. I am testing a small rubber band just in the gap that it bobbles on and I noticed a decent improvement in a totally quiet room on the zoom. I think in a nosier environment, you would not notice this. The Low Cut filter eliminates it, but I do not want to use that all the time.
Mostly we do photography and perhaps 20% video of which half of that would be using the zoom. This Servo sound is happening on all the mics I've tested but it is much more pronounced on these two mics.

Hi Brother, this is a nice comparison. Would you be able to do a comparison between ECM-B10 vs Rode Videomic Go 2 for sounds quality and features. Specially the con i have seen is B10 cannot use as a podcast mic
Can't find any videos that lets me hear what they sound like from different distances. Could you perhaps give some info about that, please? 😊
What distance are they sensitive to? 20 feet away?
I have a question. Given that the B1M has more capsules, would it pickup audio from a greater distance than the B10?
Probably not because I assume each capsule has the same range and they are in the same area next to each other. What you get is more audio data captured. Rough analogy would be like comparing a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens with a f/4 lens, both have maximum 70mm range but the former is able to get double the light in.
Delivery today on the B10 and chose it for it's lower price and smaller size. Glad to be free of wires and adjusting to audio sound bars.

Are they and the new M10 foot enough for music voice recording? How about voice below the mic, can they catch and record it since the mics are pointing above?
I just bought the B1M. Why can’t I hear recorded playback on videos? Isn’t that a standard function of any video camera? I’ve read that you have to upload it to a computer to hear the audio?

Thks for comparison. Was looking for B1M for a long time, ended up with B10. Glad I didn't make a mistake.
You need to do a long range testing
It seems as if your review starts out in omnidirectional mode, though you tell the camera it's in the super directional mode. You then switch from Omni to uni-directional (click up), and then back to Omni (click down).
Would have been nice to hear both cameras in super directional mode Head to Head
Used ECM-B1M on order as I watch your review..
The real flex is akimbo FX3's.
I can't really differentiate the sound tbh. So it's down to packaging mostly.

@@PaulFeinberg Once you pop, you can't stop. I wanted a second one just so I wouldn't have to rebalance for another gimbal/lens combo. Then I realized having kidneys and a relationship with my bank were more important.
You still streaming with Watts on the regular?
@@agenericaccount3935 We had a hard stretch to get creators on. Now that it is August we are talking this week of getting back on it. We made a creator camp channel and I think we are going to stream it to our channels and only leave it posted on the creator camp channel.

There is a guy who would be a great fit, actually, if you can grab him. Purposed Lens here on the ole TH-cams.
I'll sub to the new channel, and throw my own hat into the ring as well. I have a channel called Roving Cyclops. All of 30-ish subs, and still very nascent.
yea two FX3 is epic, but I can't tell the differences between mics
Watching this over my home theater system (Klipsch RF7iii's) to my ears the ECM-B1M sounded quite a bit better. No clue which costs more or is rated better.
Does anyone here know how the discharge rate these mics affects the camera?

To my ears, they sound very similar
enough to make me want to buy a B1M.
Just put on my Senal studio monitors and closed my eyes. It sounded like the same mic throughout.
I have a hard time accepting that 4 mic caps could function the same as 8. But maybe that's what 3 years of tech improvement can do? Can anyone make sense of this?
The B1M has a slightly fuller recording, while the B10 is brighter. While these characteristics noticeable straight out of camera, they are virtually non-existent after going through TH-cam compression.
My opinion is if you are strictly creating TH-cam vlogging content, get the B10. If you are shooting client content (ie. industrials, commercial, or corporate work) get the B1M.
Edit: Personally, I’d like to see a review where someone tests the range of these mics. They definitely sound identical when the subject is a couple feet in front of the camera. I’d like to see the subject walking backwards, away from the camera, while speaking to see what distance each mic starts to drop off.
Glad you heard our comments from the previous review. now we at least can see the difference in how they sound.
I would've preferred to see how it compares to the in-body mic as well but other than that, great content!

I know right! They are so close in sound. I have a friend that does Sony events and is an ambassador and he is trying to get me both these mics so I can do a full video breakdown of the comparison in different environments and all. I am not sure it will be good for my pocket book, but should make a good video lol

Sony ECM-B10 has more high frequencies
Buyer's remorse is a self inflicted depression that I always try reason my way out of. I own and enjoy a ECM-B1M, but this newer, smaller, cheaper just released mic has arrived. I'm hoping to hear a self gratifying 8 capsule advantage over the 4 capsule ECM-B10. Thanks for the comparison. I'm hearing little difference. I waited 6 months for the ECM-B1M to ship. It's currently unavailable and might even remain that way. Will Sony discontinue? Is it possible I got one of the last ones? B&H and Adorama have the newer ECM-B10 in stock and available for sale and I'm glad for the prospective purchasers. I console myself with the beamforming theory that additional spacing and spreading of 8 capsules over the closer together 4 capsules will equate to better off axis rejection, performance and range. Ahh, I feel better now.
If you have a larger camera, like a full frame, it is better to have B1M. B10 sounds more tinny, bright and sharp compared to B1M.
@@gigihanmandarin Camera size is irrelevant. If you're set on the B1M, you can always request notification when back in stock. I saw something about expected March of '23 from B&H. I don't know if I would have the patience.
@@DanChanPiano I own a B1M. I stretched my budget when I heard B1M was about to go out of stock last year. Size is relevant. B1M looks a little large on my ZVE10 and if I mount it on my ZV1 it will be a joke. (They are not compatible.) I'm thinking of getting ECM-G1 for my ZV1 that's why I'm rewatching all these videos.
@@gigihanmandarin Yes, if you're talking appearance and not functionality than size would be relevant. I thought you meant otherwise. Good that you have a B1M. ECM-G1 is really tiny but lacks the variable polar patterns and controls. All three of the mics are small if compared to the giant Rode's or other long shotguns. At $150 ECM-G1 has a tempting price. One of the best things about all these Sony mics is the MI shoe interface.
The first test is omni, not super directional. You had one job.

Why does Sony limit themselves to only use with their camera. I like Sony but they can hold an L on this one. This sounds good shame they just lost me to Rode.
It is a digital mic to transmit audio data through the MI hot shoe. Other manufacturers don't have the same hot shoe... Simple to understand right?
And also it needs the firmware of the camera to recognize and work together with the mic. So it is a two way thing.
@@gigihanmandarin I know how it works but why can't they make a version for others cameras. That's what I meant by limiting themselves. Like a usbc or 3.5mm jack version like rode or deity
@@jcap8391 That defeats the purpose of being a digital mic. The new analog mic ECM-G1 can do what you ask for though.
@@jcap8391 the cool thing about 24-bit float digital recording is that you can NEVER, EVER distort the mic. You can put in in front of a concert level amplifier and it will still not distort the audio.
I would not buy any of thoughts! Build quality is cheap plastic. I went to sony stand and both mics was broken at the cold shoe mount. No surprise because it made out of plastic.
No issues with build quality for me. Light and well built. Perfect for on the go.
