Polyphias song “YAS” is an absolute must listen, and the music video is phenomenally done
Especially the music video
Yas!
Really cool video too!
Sooooo good!
This is my favorite song by them
This is a different Polyphia on the Renaissance album (2016) before they found the sound that you’re used to from G.O.A.T and OD.
They found that new style on their 2017 EP „The Most Hated“ and carried it on and refined it on „New Levels New Devils“ - where the 2 tracks you know are on.
„The Most Hated“ is also where the current drummer Clay Aeschliman got to write the drum parts which made a HUGE difference to their style. You should check out some tracks from The Most Hated too; Goose, 40oz, Crosty, Icronic - they’re all great!
Periphery - Stranger Things
This track is insane
YESS
Absolutely, I'd also recommend Reptile from their latest record.
yeee boi.
Also; Omega.
You have to check out The Brain Dance by Animals as Leaders.
this
Second this
Third this
fourth this
this songs one of the best out there
VITALSIM Pagan Pt. 2. It’s a sweet Brazilian instrumental band. 2 guitars, 1 bass, 1 drummer. They rock, so do your videos. Keep up the good work! Aloha
Did rock. Just broke up 😭
Yami Obi is a must too! Love the jazz fusion in such heaviness ❤️❤️❤️
Suggestions:
Unexpect - The Quantum Symphony
Between the Buried and Me - Extremophile Elite
Diablo Swing Orchestra - Vodoo Mon Amour
Beyond Creation - Omnipresent Perception
Borknagar - Up North
Black Crown Initiate - Invitation
Native Construct - Mute
BorkNager?! Heck of a name
Definitely extremophile elite .. as well as it being that live in studio performance
Beyond Creation and Native Construct are awesome suggestions! Personally I'd pick Come Hell Or Highwater and Coexistence but all 4 are great tracks.
Unexpect... Great suggestion!
@@IICJZII yeah . That native construct album is great .
I'M STILL HERE. Please react to BUCKETHEAD SOOTHSAYER
Great choice! Would love to see this as well!
Definitely!
Something by Between the Buried and Me would be just awesome.
YES! he reacted to your comment which means we might see it in the future
Suggestions:
Slice The Cake - Stone And Silver Part 1 - The Mountains of Man
Textures - Awake
Slipknot - Vermilion
someone suggestion Textures, lovely!
Is he really ready for Stone and SIlver?! O_O
if ya do vermillion ya gotta do pt. 2 also
I've tried recommending some slice the cake. No real traction on the likes. Not many people know this band. Another little known but amazing band is virvum
Holy shit Slice the Cake, insane to see someone mention them. Imo the best songs to react to would be The Man With No Face, altho it's pretty long, or The Lantern.
Such a great and underrated band.
Polyphia has gone through a lot of wacky iterations over the years and I dig where they ended up.
Please check out Antebellum by The Human Abstract. It's metal with a classical composition style. neat stuff.
Polyphia ft Ichika - Deathnote is killer
Man, I just love what you're doing. That super-excited "alright" instantly makes me all warm and happy. Thanks for that!
My coffee consumption went up since I started checking out this channel. :)
cloudkicker is another great instrumental band
Can confirm. Not really a band though, just 1 very talented man.
Oh shit how haven't I thought to recommend this. He needs to do this
Cloudkicker is great a few tracks are a bit busy in the mix and how they flow track to track on certain albums but still some great work.
I really appreciate someone suggesting cloudkicker ❤
"Drugs are bad."🤣🤣🤣 Still here Geebz. Great review again.
animals as leaders - CAFO (I guarantee you have never heard anything like this)
also would love a revisit to opeth, maybe do deliverance or burden
I would recommend “The Brain Dance”, “The Woven Web”, “On Impulse” or “Ectogenesis” over CAFO
@@cgafken Seconded
@@cgafken Good comment Charlie. Any song off their last two albums is a preferable reaction over CAFO
> *Soften the Glare* <
They are right up you're alley. Also.. Ryan Martinie!!!
I found you because of Polyphia (they are my favorite band) and am so excited you did another video for them!
Nasty by Polyphia is fantastic; I’d love to see you do that song. It’s a ride and probably nothing like anything you’ve ever heard before!
Definitely check out Polyphia's first full length album Muse, or even their first two EPs. It's fascinating to hear the evolution of their musical/technical prowess over the years, and the shifts in subgenre that occur with it. Hourglass on Muse is my favorite song of theirs.
Definitely gotta check out Coheed and Cambria! "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3" is one of the best
I loved this song ever since I first heard it in 2003. This song has made a great impact in my life and it is a ritual that I started for every deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan, it was one of 4 songs that I had to listen to before leaving.
Epiphany - Intervals
Lock and key - Intervals
Must listens for sure
Intervals: a different light. Its just perfection.
You’ve checked out the contortionist before, but I would recommend “The Parable (rediscovered)” or “Return to Earth”. They’re both incredible.
Return to earth seconded!
Intuition by them is also fantastic
@@biscuitmofo19 I think he’s done that one already. Love that song as well
Edit: th-cam.com/video/r2jzEul9vNw/w-d-xo.html
Still here man, I'm discovering alot of cool music through you and love your breakdowns 🤘
Between the Buried and Me - Extremophile Elite (LIVE)
Mastodon - Fallen Torches
Architects - Hollow Crown
Ghost - Cirice
Geebz, when you get to 10:52 in Descending by TOOL, make sure you wave goodbye to your loved ones beforehand. Cuz Danny and Adam are going to send your mind, body and soul to the shadow realm..
@derp derpin bwahaha nice!
@derp derpin agree. One of the most overrated bands in history
@@locust7777 yeah, same here bud
Whether they're overrated or not I think their recent album is underrated for sure, especially Descending
@@spaantz yeah I have no idea whats overrated and underrated. I just like agreeing with trolls cus it gets them to go away
How about giving something like Haken and Between the Buried and Me a listen?
3rd for BtBaM please!
definitely agree. would be really nice for him to review the album Colors from start to finish
He did do Haken actually! It was about a month ago.
@@gabrielchad447 WAtiqiwq
@@SpiderJerusalemJr I think I've searched his videos thoroughly and not found Haken. Was it deleted? I'd LOVE to see that. I've been waiting since discovering his channel!
Im still here too. Thanks Geebz
I am learning new music by watching your channel - thanks!!!
Still here! Next for polyphia, you should do Aviator with Jason Richardson. An even earlier album than this one.
You must listen to Paradise or Nightmare or 40oz (or all of them :p) from Polyphia, those are 3 of my faves and I would love to see your point of view :D
I really dig polyphia, and I dig this channel. Not the first band I’ve seen you review, but definitely in my same wheelhouse. Keep it up! I’ll keep watching/listening
What's so touchingly amazing, is that you do all this really progressive stuff and get this LOAD of subscribers ❤
Keep up the good work bro!
Knew you had to be lurking around here =)
@@paravarium 😁
"Ivory" and "Crush" by polyphia are also jams!
Crush is my favorite Polyphia song.
Between the buried and meeeeeeeeee
Lovin the videos sir! Would love to see you react to Archspire - Involuntary Doppelganger.
I saw them live a year and a half ago and they sounded near perfect. Unfortunately the next show i was going to see last march was canceled due to covid.
On the bright side material for their new album is supposedly mostly written so by the time they get back on tour there might be some new tracks to bang to.
This will be crazy haha
When I heard that song it was a whole new musical experience. Something so extreme and so listenable and memorable. A bit like when I first heard Through the Fire and Flames and couldn't contain the excitement I had when hearing that.
I saw Archspire in 2018 with Obscura and Beyond Creation and that was easily the best tech death show I've seen. Archspire's drummer is insane.
Polyphia "champagne" is the best tune
Tendinitis - Jason Richardson
Enjoyed the reaction, as always. Bought you a cup of coffee.
Hot damn, it's Polyphia!
Did you check out Soften the Glare yet?
Check out March of the Cephalopods
I really love this album. Chill. The style is awesome
yesssss their best along with O.D.
it's the song that really grabbed me and made me take them more seriously
Kamelot - Memento Mori
Streak 6 of asking Geebz to react to Frost*
Polyphia is just something very special...the musicianship is insane an the mix of hip-hop elements with this kind of instrumental rock is just something really, really unique
For as much as Polyphia inspires me as a guitarist and songwriter, listening to them is absolutely exhausting. The constant changes never allow me to settle into a groove and just float in the music. I feel like I'm constantly adjusting to new sounds. I dont mean that negatively, but it can be.
idk what it is about it but that opening "AWHLIGHT" always compels me to click the like button on command like some Pavlov's dogs shit.
You're the only reaction channel that i actually always check for new uploads because you always react to the stuff i actually really enjoy. if you want something that's metal and pretty out there, experimental and proggy, you should look at "Hell or High Water" by Native Construct, i think it would be something you could really appreciate the musicianship in.
Shrezzers - "Anaraak" or "Mystery".
Insomnium - at the gates of sleep would be a real treat
Ahhhh what a great song to pick! This album is so gooooddd
I’m gonna request a band called Fair To Midland in several of your videos in hopes that it gains some traction. They’re super underrated and maybe you can shine some light on their bangers
I’d LOVE to see you do some Mr. Bungle. All of their songs are a trip but perhaps something off California... “Air-Conditioned Nightmare” or “None of Them Knew They Were Robots”
I wanna see Carry Stress in the Jaw, that would be crazy
@@jambulance That definitely came to mind, but, I wouldn’t want him to dive too deep too quick. Something a little more accessible (if that could even be used to describe anything about Mr. Bungle.”
I just think he’d be very fascinated by Mike Patton.
Have you heard his album, Mondo Cane? If not, go listen to “Che Notte” immediately! I’ve commented that to him a few times. We will get some eventuallyz
@@Odd_Combo That's a good point, and yeah Mondo Cane is fantastic, I've been a huge fan of Mike's projects from all over, I think Disco Volante was the first album I heard of his back when I was about 6 or 7. I'd love to hear Geebz break down some Secret Chiefs 3 too.
@@jambulance Right on! So, you know the whole gang! I first heard Mr. Bungle when I was in 5th or 6th grade. I saw the self-titled cover at FYE and was sold immediately. My best friend and I threw it on...
Wondering why this song hasn’t started yet, then, that first chord hit hard and the carnivale was open and was officially solidified fan. I felt obliged to share my introduction to them, after you saying you heard Disco Volante at 6-7yrs. That set your music trajectory in the right direction. I had my 7 year old mind blown Primus, via Tony Hawks Pro Skater. That was a great time to grow up. Sorry for rambling. It’s not everyday you find a fellow fan, that knows all the extended projects. Secret Chiefs 3 are awesome. Especially since Geebz is a composer, I’d really like to hear his perspective of Trey Spruance’s methods. There is not a single side project any of them have done that I don’t love... Even Adult Themes for Voice. That cacophonous masterpiece!
@@Odd_Combo Have you heard Tētēma’s latest album? I still haven’t checked it out fully but I loved Geocidal
This is one of my absolute favorites. The guitar riff is pure sex. Such a great Grove to this song, bass is fab.
Echoing the cries for Between the Buried and Me - Extremophile Elite. I may be the only person who would actually recommend listening to the studio version before checking out the live performance, but both versions are fantastic.
Check out Unprocessed- Deadrose or anything Unprocessed. Their lead guitarist/vocalist has collabed with Tim Henson as well!
if he's going back in time in the polyphia discography, I can't wait for him to reach the resurrect/inspire EP era
Would love to see anything by the melvins! Especially a history of bad men
AKG should pretty much be sending you checks at this point. You're probably the best advertising they've ever had. I love your stank face. It more like a slightly disgusted/confused face. But theres no mistaking how into it you are. It's great.
world's end girlfriend - Radioactive Spell Wave
It's Post-Rock in a rather broad sense, but the way that Katsuhiko Maeda is building to a peak gets me every time I listened to it! And I listen to it a lot :-D
Mr Bungle - ma meeshka mow skwoz
Potions by puscifer. You will love the production journey.
Elder. Dead roots stirring for a new one.
I am still here alright. 🤟🏼
I have to recommend some Native Construct, Come Hell or High Water would be great, for example.
Suggestion for a new group to check (again!):
Loathe - Heavy is the Head That Falls With the Weight of a Thousand Thoughts
Some harmonic solutions, some passages and some guitar tones remind me of Prince from the Diamonds & Pearls period.
Please do "Consciousness (Pt.1 & Pt.2)" by PERSEFONE.
It's an 9 minute instrumental journey.
You dont see many people recommending persefone. A truly great band.
@@Lloocii Indeed - it would certainly be an interesting breakdown.
I love Polyphia
spawn of possession - apparition
I have an idea about "Culture Shock". When I listen to the two Clays I hear a Salsa beat. I listen to Tim and Scottie I hear a traditional American Fusion. Thus, two cultures being slammed together. Hence "Culture Shock"
Definitely would suggest a band by the name of aviations with a song called outliers. it's a beautiful blend of prog, fusion jazz, and metal.
Im still here my friend i love the videos. Plz do more Caligula's Horse
Polyphia Nasty is 🔥
Renaissance is Polyphia's best album IMO.
Versus My Phobia - Colours; Complimentary
It's chaotic and at the same time melodic. It has twists and turns, with a distinct theme throughout. The song explores the concept of "two sides of the same coin" very well. Your seasoned thoughts on this would be great to hear!
I'm still here! My suggestion is "We Were Born to Be Loved" by King's X, the most criminally underrated band out there.
Thousands of people would flock here if you reacted to Never Meant by American Football. Greatest composition of the late 90's.
I'm still here! I'm sure you've seen this by now but please do Humanimals or Plague World by Osiah. Thanks! 🙂
You should check out the Animals as Leaders if you enjoy music like this
He's done tooth and claw
The fact that you’ve done Polyphia and Protest the Hero but haven’t done any thing by Between the Buried and Me is absolutely criminal, as they were nominated for a Grammy a couple years ago. And this genre simply doesn’t get that very often. The only heavy progressive metal band that has a banjo breakdown, that I’ve heard. Ants of the Sky, Extremophile Elite, and Voice of Trespass are some my faves. You’ll adore them, because they are better than tool or any of these bands in terms on composition. Promise.
Three of their best songs, for sure. Selkies is another I think would be great.
And here I am thinking "What is that song by Kultur shock (and why is it written than that)?" Then I warmed up. This is a great piece, I really liked it. Some of the riffs reminded me of a Bulgarian prog band called FSB. Kultur shock is also a band worth checking out. Cheers.
Matt Corby - Brother (live like a version) or anything by him like Chains, Monday, Trick of the light, souls a fire. honestly if you want to hear some of the BEST vocals you have EVER heard you really need to check this aussie out I'm telling ya . also in that same kind of genre is Alex Vargas - cohere super underrated song deserves way more attention but then his more popular ones are shackled up, solid ground, till forever runs out, inclosure.
Polyphia is a really cool band. I would love to see you react to Bent Knee, Between The Buried And Me or Wildrun.
Might I suggest a reaction to the band Sleep Token.
Songs-
The Offering
Jaws
Calcutta
Kaipa - In the Wake of Evolution (from the album of the same name): Relatively unknown Swedish prog rock band. I doubt most people here have heard of them. It's not really metal but you know. Gotta put them out into the world somehow. Tack så mycket.
Hey Geebz!! Keep it up man and Aloha!!!! I'm still here :)
Nice track. please add to the list for the new bands some Pain of Salvation ( King of Loss or Her Voices) and for the re-de-compotitions some Opeth ( Blackwater Park)
thanks again for the vids :D
Polyphia - Yas
Still here and can't wait to see what's next. Hopefully Dream Theater - Octavarium.
Great videos Geebz, would really REALLY love to see a reaction to "On the Shores" by Ihsahn. Been bugging you about this one for awhile now. Legit version on YT is 10 mins 14 secs. I know it's not something tons of people are clamoring for (except me), but it's an amazing song combining saxophone with melodic blackened-ish metal elements. Ihsahn was a founding member at age 15 of legendary black metal band Emperor before embarking on his solo career where he really displays his songwriting chops. He's a great musician and composer that brings something different to the metal scene. Would love to see your reaction and dissection. Keep up the great work!
It's funny how much polyphia improved to his last album. Listen to Renaissance again is pretty strange. Chon at that time was shining gold, man...
yeah, it has a kind of "under development" vibe to it when compared the the last album all these years later. You can still tell you're listening to a guitar.
@@_scions Yeah, before Devils album i really thought they was a pretty mediocre band. And i think the album got that good because have so many guests. At 2016, for example, to me they were something like ''pop rock with trap, but with slides melodies, fast, bold but clean tone'' definely NOT at Chon level of compostion, for example (i wouldn't never compare with Plini or David Maxim, they're prog, other league). After commenting, i got their albums to listen again to their previews albums... And is pretty much that, and i would say it have a ''instagram/tik toker vibe'' to it, which i hate.
@derp derpin Maybe not, just think about that. It's just a pretty aggressive critique, don't get it personal. And i truly believe it. Polyphia was a mediocre band.
I would love to see a reaction to Blind Guardian - The Bard's Song & Valhalla - Live at Wacken Open Air 2016.
Blind Guardian is a German power metal band formed in 1984 in Germany. They are often credited as one of the seminal and most influential bands in the power metal and speed metal subgenres.
The Bard's Song is kind of a different thing though :).
Kingston Wall - Shine on me
I'm still here!
Obsidian Tide ~ "Pillars of Creation"
Have you done Plini- Selenium Forest yet?
It’d be cool to see what you’d have to say about Within the Ruins’ song “Domination”. Always interested in hearing your observations. Blessings, my dude. 🤙🏻 Also: still here! And I won’t stop commenting this until you finally do it! 😁
Polyphia, animals as leaders, Intervals... All great bands!
Check out Soften the Glare
Mkay
BRO. A PERFECT CIRCLE ORESTES LIVE AT RED ROCKS ... PLLLLZZZZ
Sir, you could give "Lunar Room", by Richard Henshall, a try. It's a nice mix of prog music and rap, in a way 😅
And it'd pretty well mixed as well.
Aloha from 🇧🇷 !
How about some more Radiohead? They performed their whole album ‘In Rainbows’ as a live studio version. Here’s a link to one of their tracks Weird Fishes th-cam.com/video/ejdZEe4Rd0o/w-d-xo.html but you could pick any song from that album because they’re all outstanding.
Still here 🤘
Still hoping you'd react to Wardruna with the song Helvegen. Nothing like you've ever heard before. True and authentic old instruments like the Taglharp, bones, sticks and skins for drums.
I'm always "still hear" when you're texting to anything like Polyphia, Caligula's Horse, Plini.......I know Rush is a somewhat over-annalyzed on TH-cam, but have you heard Natural Science...(brains explode). Love your show...I call them shows. Thanks!!
