What has helped me lately is listening to audio books during making art. I can concentrate on the story and not think about what I'm doing but just letting the pencil or paint do what it wants to, without expectations. I don't feel like I'm an artist, I just know I need to put colour on paper, mostly abstract, sometimes sketches. I used to journal often, sometimes daily, I still do sometimes but I've found art to be more forgiving and much more joyful. Thank you for this video, it has reminded me why I enjoy doing art, because it heals me a tiny bit of colour at a time.

Thank you for sharing. I’m so glad you found this video helpful. Audio books eh? That actually sounds amazing and a great way to get out of ones head to just relax and let loose while creating.

@@leahevergreenart I've been an avid reader since I was 4yo. I could never concentrate on audiobooks. Just last month I tried one to listen to during doing the dishes.. Usually I listen to music but my chronic migraine sometimes doesn't appreciate music and I still need to get chores done. The most I've realised the benefit was while driving home after seeing friends. I was so very tired but needed to drive home for half an hour. Concentrating on the story took my thoughts away from how tired I was and I came home less tired. I still needed a nap, but I wasn't bone tired and almost in tears as I usually am after a social thing. 😊

Your definition for art therapy was insanely lacking…. And false… it sounds like this is your opinion about what art therapy is more than anything else

Thank you for sharing your opinion. This video is a source for being introduced to Expressive Arts Therapy for those who may not have heard of it before. All the information I discuss is sourced from credible sources. I am working on a video dedicated to Art Therapy. If you have a source of information dedicated to Art Therapy that I have not already shared in my description for this video, please share it. I am interested in learning more and sharing that knowledge with others on their healing journey.

Well I have a degree in art therapy as a source lol so can’t exactly link it. I love that people use art as therapy in their own lives, but the number one part of “art therapy” and “expressive arts therapy” is that they both involve a therapist… that’s what makes it therapy as apposed to “just” therapeutic. Regardless, art therapist use a wide variety of mediums in their practice and the difference between the two is not much of a difference really, rather a different approach and different “founders”, theories and concepts. I just think it’s super important to make it known that you are expressing your own personal understanding and application of things when you are making a TH-cam video, rather than speaking as if you are expressing “facts”. Psychology today might be a credible source but if you take a paragraph from it and say “this is what art therapy is” you are going to give people the wrong idea. All the best 💕

@@GonniGettingFitter Thank you, I appreciate your comments on my video and having this discussion with me. I know there are people out there not using proper information (just options vs facts) and claiming to be experts. Which is why throughout my channel I state I am an individual that uses these tools, not a certified therapist. Sharing what I know, experiences and different ways others can use art as well. As you know, everyone’s journey towards healing is different. If just one of my videos helps one person to try something new, to learn something, to seek help. We need more people advocating for mental health. If there is a better link I can share to help others seeking more information and help, let me know. I’ll add it to this description and insure to mention it in my next video talking about art therapy and expressive arts therapy.
