What did we see? Incredible acts of bravery, love and compassion from our entire staff. Follow their journey and see how our amazing employees are caring for our community’s most vulnerable.

My Mom passed away here in Michigan in March..I thank God for her nurse she was exactly like this nurse caring for Grandpa in this video. She held my mom's hand....she sat with my mom..she talked to her. Her nurse done what we as her famiky weren't allowed to do. She told my mom that her family loves her and we want her to fight. She got to know our family over the 15 days that my Mom fought in ICU. She was literally an angel for our family. I thank her dearly.
I'm so sorry for your loss but very thankful that you have the comfort of knowing someone showed love and care for your loved one ,praying for Gods peace and comfort for your family ! Btw my mama is 92 years old and was diagnosed with coronavirus she is in a nursing home and was in the hospital during this time but she is back in the nursing home now and doing well but she's very down because we can't visit her except by phone and though her window it's very hard and we are very concerned about her well being we have not got to touch her or visit in almost 2 months but we are very thankful she is here . Again I'm so sorry for your loss and I know this will be a very hard Mother's Day for you ,God Bless you and your family !

Ah man when the nurse was talking about the 93 year old and that he had a good day and then went to hospice kinda made me tear a bit up. Everyone was living their lives fine before corona. It ain’t fair.
That's not true even before corona people were in hospice. And people were dying everyday life will never be fair. Yes it's very very sad but there is nothing that can be done when your time is up. Even if we did not have cronna to worry about people would still die and it would not be fair. People die of cancer car crashes / heart attacks in people sleep life would still not be fair

Before corona, people died and caught diseases/viruses. More people are dying from the flu than COVID. We should be living our lives now like normal. This has gone way out of proportion. COVID isn’t as bad as people are making it out to be. It’s contagious, yes. People die from it, yes. But it only really negatively affects a certain group of people, and so does other viruses and sicknesses. Yet we carried on with our lives without a worry

My dad died from a very aggressive cancer last October. I’m so thankful he got to pass away with the people he loved around him holding his hand. I can’t even imagine the sorrow the people are feeling right now who can’t be there to say goodbye to their loved ones, my heart breaks for you.
My dad passed away feb 13 from cancer also. I took care of him at my parents house the last couple months of his life. I’m forever grateful for that time as well...

But they are just doing their job just like the rest of us ...I am a has been janitor at a public school for 32.5 years now retired ...All those years nobody gave a Shit about me or what I had to deal with ... All I ever heard from anybody was well that is what you were hired to do .... I Didn't care for this video, too emotional, too much jargon to gloss over reality. A more professional approach would have been for the nurses to explain the nature of the pathology affecting their patients and what treatment they were helping doctors to administer. That way it would have been an educational experience rather than cheap, emotional indulgence.
I'm an essential worker in a warehouse and I've been a nervous mess ever since the out break. I can't imagine how nerve wrecking it is for these nurses and doctors to walk into these hot spots every day. So brave. So courageous. I hope we all learn something about these heroes ❤

Surprised that their COVID unit is not 24/7 masking. The COVID unit I work for requires us to wear N95 at all times, and it's difficult to breathe. But this video was from 4/10, rules might have changed already.
Our hospital wasn't wearing masks house wide all the time at the time this video came out either, not out of the norm for that time

This is a great "day in the life" story about how Methodist is dealing with COVID-19 with their new Highly Infectious Disease Units. After describing what Methodist is doing to create and staff these HIDUs, the story transitions about 4 minutes in to telling the story of "Grandpa" Steubinger. The story brought tears to my eyes. It also gives you some hope and a keen amount of respect for the nursing staff and the army of people behind them that are on the front lines here in Houston. It makes me proud that my own daughter, Kelsey chose the profession.
Pablo Vasquez, the HIDU Nursing Leader made a great comment. "We all see it as a privilege in nursing to be with someone at their bedside as they go through that transition. It's almost like we're a midwife to the soul. Perhaps it's ironic that we're in a Labor and Delivery Unit and that we're helping that transition in someone's life."
When they talked about how the nursing staff collaborates with the patients' families, because the family is not allowed to be in the hospital, the nurse tells how she was a witness to the daughter thanking "Grandpa" for being the one that brought her to believe in the Lord. If that doesn't touch you, I don't know what will.
This is why I’m going to school to be a nurse.

Same here. I'm not there yet since my TEAS got canceled. Until then I'm waiting until I can take it and get into the program. I want to be an ER nurse but that'll be difficult as a new grad and eventually CRNA. I always wanted to work in ER and be there for the surgery part like the aesthetician part.
My grandpa passed away a month ago from COVID-19. No one was able to be with him in the hospital during the month he was there. He was so careful with everything he did to try and not get infected. He also had to go to a hospice, he was there for a day and a half before he passed. I was able to see him there and say my final goodbyes.Please, please everyone be careful.

Houston Methodist is the best hospital that I have ever worked for.I have been a nurse for over 15yrs. It's an awesome place to work where everyone's voice is heard. It was a privilege. Top Notch! They truly are "Leading Medicine".

I'm honestly just happy to see how engaged our heros are in saving lives and being engaged for these peoples' families.
This is what being a nurse is all about. Being with people when they are born, when they die and in between. As a retired nurse, I would give anything to be back helping my colleagues and patients get through this. To be with someone when they pass is an honor and a privilege. We will not let you die alone. To my fellow nurses, I salute you. Your bravery and compassion has never been more appreciated than now.

After this video, I truly see that this is an elderly people's virus. And even though these people have gotten to live their lives, passing away alone without your family is heartbreaking. KNOWING that you are dying and KNOWING that you aren't allowed to see your family is horrible.
I thought I was going to be watching this and seeing this very hard working team of doctors and nurses but instead I saw that and felt the love that grandpa shared in him life just through Tabitha’s words. I lost my Grandma three weeks ago because of COVID-19 she died alone in her bedroom in her house, I got stuck across the country so I couldn’t held her hand, nobody was there for here, It’s so heartbreaking and frustrating to see how hard this disease can be, I’m praying for all the people we lost in this hard way.
I have never felt my heart ache so much as it has since this virus started!! Just knowing these people have to go through this alone and die alone, is GUT WRENCHING!!! It's horrible and sad... I can't imagine.. God bless all the people affected and so the nurses.. Lord bless you all!!

They should be wearing their PPE around one another, not just the patients.

To be honest, this came out in early April, and guidelines and protocols throughout March and April were pretty much changing on a daily basis until it got to where
we are now on my particular COVID-dedicated unit which is hospital-owned surgical scrubs, an N95 (or a PAPR) and regular face mask, a hairnet, and shoe covers 24/7. With a face shield being worn for direct patient care and of course gloves.
Boy, I hope this hospital is really like this, and that this isn't just some farcical puff piece. At my local hospital, when I was hospitalized for 5 days, a nurse only showed up for a minute or two at a time every hour or two, and once their shift ended, I never saw them again during my entire stay. I gave up trying to make any kind of connection with the staff and kept to myself. Glad I had family visiting.

As a Paediatrician, I see in my own hospital and on the video, how difficult it is to function in a hospital whilst maintaining appropriate social distancing. Health workers are the most important part of the pack of cards - if we get sick, the house falls apart, so we need to learn to work 6' apart...... One Covid + member of the team, decimates that team and everyone suffers
Before one more person comments on masks, they are using Paprs, powered air purifying respirator, these are used instead of n95s, just as good if not better, and saving masks in the supply chain, not all hospitals have enough of these to use, and some don't use them at all, so they are doing everything they should be, before one more person trys to say they aren't using masks, please read.

I agree that it's better. With the masks it's harder to breath which is probably not very healthy, especially for long periods of time. I like everything they're doing. It's well thought out and planned.

I can’t tell you how utterly difficult, frustrating, and soul-draining it is to care for these patients. I worked on the covid unit for an 8 week contract in Boston, MA. I won’t ever forget this time for my entire career. It has tested my faith in myself and humanity and it’s shaped me into a better nurse.
What people are not seeing and understanding is how cruel this disease is. It isolates you from everyone for its duration or until you die from it. It affects the most vulnerable and especially those in group settings. I have seen SO MANY group home patients with cognitive disorders sick with covid and its complications in the hospital. They don’t understand the disease, they can’t see or speak to their caregivers (who understand all their idiosyncrasies), and we can’t even stay in the room to hold their hands or hold them in our arms when they’re scared because of the risk of transmission.
I hope I never see anything like this again.

I started working as a temp in an NYC hospital that was in dire need for help in the beginning of April and i just have to say EVERY temp. clinician we had (they all came from Texas and were mostly RN's), were the sweetest, most caring providers i've ever met. They all left their families to come to the worst hit hospital in the country and they are some of the best people i've met. When i see the difference between quality of care and bedside manner, it's clear that those Texas nurses know what they are doing. Thank you!

I cried and I cried hard. I work for the prison system. Caring for these men, our staff, and my family has been incredibly difficult. To watch the people you care for struggle around you and not have their family there as support is incredibly difficult and what you all are doing each day is heroic. I work in HR for a hospital system. The leadership, team work and compassion shown at this hospital is amazing. 🙌🏾❤️
Staff should probably all be masked, particularly if standing around/talking so closely like that.
They are screened daily before stepping foot into the hospital.

My Mum was recently released from hospital following Heat stroke (thank god) but seeing how the nurses and doctors were working on the wards just made my heart break, the amount of work they are doing in this highly critical and dangerous time is absolutely amazing, and I truly believe mankind needs to redraw the 'hero' criteria, and put these guys right at the top of that list

Cause they were already very low on mask. Lots of nurses and doctors that have social talked about that they were reusing n95 mask. As of right now, im not sure cause i dont follow them. Back then i did but then i have my reasons why i stopped.

No not negative pressure rooms, most units only have one or a handful of negative pressure rooms, they are using Paprs in place on n95s! Which is actually better, they are conserving masks, Google paprs!

When this video came out most hospitals weren't masking, and there's absolutely no reason to wear gloves, there's sanitizer all over the hospital
@@sammiels12 I have seen many people in hospitals wearing all sorts of PPEs while in the hospital. Some wear 2 masks and a face shield.
i cried about the grandpa. it’s so sad that he was so happy, but covid had to ruin it all. people going out and saying “i’ve been in quarantine for 2 weeks, i’m fine” and they just hangout with like 20 people is sickening. they don’t realize what they are doing to people, what they are doing to the nurses and doctors, what they are doing to the world right now. all the stress, fear, anxiety, and sadness of all of the deaths is terrible, but it’s not going to get better until people: stay. home. it’s not hard

This hospital was established in 1919 as The Methodist Hospital in response to the "Spanish" Flu Pandemic. It was recently renamed Houston Methodist. Folks here just call it "Methodist". It has always been the place to go when really sick. Thank you for being there all these years for Houston.
Unbelievable people are dying all alone. No family no friends no spouse.
