"Ralsei is not evil, Ralsei is just miserable" that is the best understanding of his character and actions i have ever seen, gosh i feel so bad for this poor boy Why does every toby fox game have a goat boy i keep crying over?
If I had a nickle for every time a Toby Fox game has a Goat boy to cry about, I would have two nickles. Which isn't a lot, but it seems very intentional that is happened twice.
This is also the vibes the character gives me. Like, all the times people guess he must be evil can also be explained with his suffering. When he urges Kris to just shrug off their fear and worries about Spamton is just he advicing Kris about doing what he also does all the time 😭. Like, all the bad he feels he just tries not to think about it too much. The rest is because he doesn’t want them to suffer and tries that you choose the right outcome for them because he knows it can get bad.
I see all of Ralsei's "suspicious" behavior as desperation to please and poor social skills. His job is to be helpful, so he tries WAY too hard to make the player like him. If you don't like him, then you won't listen to him, then he fails his purpose. But over time as you treat him with kindness, Ralsei starts to open up and even become a bit more assertive thanks to Susie. He has no idea what it means to be Ralsei, but he's slowly getting there.

This is very interesting, since the game tells you that your choices doesn't matter. However, it didn't say you couldn't make your own purpose despite the destination being the same.
I think the theme of the game will be that you are always the master of your destiny. in the normal(pascifist or agressive) route, you make your own meaning of your adventure and the friends along the way. In the weird route, you take the reigns by your own hands, even if it means unsewing the fabric of reality itself
I hate Ralsei being forgotten and taken down by the fandom just for putting other characters in the spotlight. Noelle seems like an interesting character to me, but people always replace Ralsei, (The prince of darkness from the legend) with Noelle, as if it was the most normal and canonical thing to do. Even in popular fangames, it is absurd how they treat Ralsei, either as a joke, or forgotten, or out of focus with one or two dialogues. We are forgetting a lot what ralsei means and we are going to get a big blow when we really know everything about him.
Sans doesnt know hes in a game. He is apathetic because he thinks no matter what happens time is going to be reset, making everything pointless. He is not meta-aware.

Because resets are an in-universe established thing. If someone knows about something that canonically happens in the world and can entirely be explained without breaking the 4th wall it's not meta knowledge.

Thanks for reminding me to take a break. I was working on a painting while watching this and did not realize 30 minutes had passed lol. I love this analysis!
I’m guessing it’s Mayor Holiday as the knight, and Gaster as the strange someone. Gaster: What I believe is that Gaster created the bunker, but then died in a horrible accident, similar to how he died in Undertale, since important events in Deltarune seem to parallel important events in Undertale. (Toriel and Asgore splitting up, Mettaton wanting a better body, etc.) In this theory, Gaster is assumed to not be the Mystery Man. The reason to this is that the Mystery Man is mainly assumed to be Gaster by the theory that he looks like Sans and Papyrus, and passed down the Gaster Blasters to them. (Sans uses them and Papyrus is assumed to have used them in his special attack.) This can be disproven by the fact that Sans and Papyrus are new to town, and in Undertale, Papyrus’ special attack was shown to just be a bunch of bones- not any Gaster Blasters. Now that we’ve successfully separated Gaster from Sans/Papyrus, we can now put him in the right place at the right time- making the bunker and dying in an accident before Dess’ disappearance. When he died in the accident, he was shattered across time and space. The only question is: what was Gaster really studying? I assume it was determination and soul power, leading him to discover dark fountains and the dark worlds. When he dies, he decides to continue his research by going to different dark worlds, and choosing Darkners to experiment on, give determination to, and share his immense knowledge of the past, present, and future with, as well as his knowledge of other dark worlds. I believe he didn’t only talk to Spamton and Jevil, but also the various bosses who mention each other’s dark worlds. After studying the dark worlds, driving the secret bosses insane, and studying determination for years and years on end, he decides to perform another experiment, by deciding to control another human. I’m proposing the theory that *you* are Gaster, and your true form is actually the vessel you create at the start (The “Fragment” of Gaster seen in Undertale is humanoid, just like the Vessel.) You take control of Kris’ body, experiment with their determination, soul, etc. I suspect at one point, Gaster gets separated from Kris, and the two duel. You can either defeat Kris in an outright fight and forcibly seize complete control of their body, or talk it out and befriend Kris, where you both realize that you need each other, and come to a mutual understanding. Kris will have internal dialogue here, which you will get to see. Dess and Ralsei: Dess, Kris, Noelle, and Asriel explored the abandoned bunker, when something went terribly wrong. A dark fountain engulfed the room- one of Gaster’s experiments gone horribly wrong. Dess is sucked into the dark world, alongside Kris’ red horns. Dess became trapped in the dark world, and the red headband became Ralsei. While Gaster was studying his fountains, he came across the prophecy and told it to Ralsei. This explains why you still try to save the world, even if you skip through Ralsei’s prophecy- because you already know the details. Ralsei immediately realizes Kris was possessed by Gaster, which is what they try to explain to Kris, and why they blush when overlapping with your soul- he knows it’s you in control. It’s also why he faces the camera in the acid boat sequence. He suspects that you/Gaster are the one in control and making moves on him. Mayor Holiday: Mayor Holiday ran into the bunker to try to rescue Dess, but it was too late. She read through Gaster’s notes about dark fountains, and became the Roaring Knight in an effort to find her daughter, making fountains in areas her daughter loved to frequent. This is why she grows bitter, cold, and abusive. She was shaped by her grief and the dark powers into a determined, powerful woman, who will do anything she can to get her daughter back.
I love being 4 minutes into a video essay, absolutely gripped to the screen and incredibly interested and then suddenly have the thought: "Wait, isn't this supposed to be a deltarune video??"
ngl, longform deltarune content like theories n analysis is the only thing keeping my hype up for future chapters. im glad when i think its been squeezed dry, theres still more uploads.
Man, I thought the mailman metaphor was about the Knight rather than Ralsei (with a Snowgrave ending), but who's to say the Knight can't also serve a singular purpose? To play the villain in a prophecy foretold? To be a paid actor? Many things to think about...
Here is a question how does Ralsei get back to his Dark fountain after we close the new dark fountain? When both are open it makes sense because the first chapter showed that while open their is a literal path between the two. But when the fountain is sealed and we return to the light world every Darkner that was there has to be manually brought to Ralsie's kingdom. and its not like Ralsei runs back home before you seal the fountain, he is at most one room away. But there is no trace of him in the light world, but both Lancer and Rouxls Card both remain with Kris, is he just teleported back, does he travel back through the void, etc.
29:52 Incidentally, I've seen another analysis/theory video on TH-cam about these trees. How their filename is significant, how they seem to change with the area becoming "darker yet darker", suggesting the same is possible for other Darkners. Have you seen that theory? Thoughts? Anyway, interesting analysis video! Thanks for uploading!
My brain rot is still all about how he is able to change our POV. Push us away from Kris and to Susie. I'm not going to go into my multiple paragraph tirade I did last time, but like, is he able to control the game because he has DETERMINATION? Like, the whole shpiel where Flowey could save and load until we showed up in Undertale?
Im not sure, I talk about it more in part 2, but like, I think he is just aware of what is "Supposed" to happen. I think the PoV change is just a scripted event that he is aware of, and using that opportunity to talk to Kris.
@@dantes_integrity I get that, I watched the video, great work btw, but I just get the feeling that, while Ralsei isn't evil, he is working against the player. He's hiding crap from us directly.

31:51 I love this section, thanks for reminding me to break my togs!!
i was dead expecting you to say "he serves ZERO purpose"
Here is a question how does Ralsei get back to his Dark fountain after we close the new dark fountain? When both are open it makes sense because the first chapter showed that while open their is a literal path between the two. But when the fountain is sealed and we return to the light world every Darkner that was there has to be manually brought to Ralsie's kingdom. and its not like Ralsei runs back home before you seal the fountain, he is at most one room away.
But there is no trace of him in the light world, but both Lancer and Rouxls Card both remain with Kris, is he just teleported back, does he travel back through the void, etc.

Finally, my 18 page paper on microwave radiation from 4 years ago can come in handy
If I was in a video game, I’d want to be like the Save Frogs in Mother 3
29:52 Incidentally, I've seen another analysis/theory video on TH-cam about these trees. How their filename is significant, how they seem to change with the area becoming "darker yet darker", suggesting the same is possible for other Darkners. Have you seen that theory? Thoughts?
Anyway, interesting analysis video! Thanks for uploading!

omg a new DR video. OMG it's long. O M G it's only part 1!!! Today is a good day.
i always called it “the Shit Squad” in my head instead of “Fuck Squad” 😂
Sick theory, can't wait for part 2
the aspect ratio of the video made me so much more imersed!!!
28:55 def my fave image from this whole video
