Another cast member on BSG went on to be pretty important to Star Wars. Sam Witwer. He plays a pilot callsign Crashdown, whos a supporting character for a about 15 episodes. In the Star Wars universe, he is Darth Maul, and StarKiller.
One of the things that seems odd now: Gaius Baltar was originally not conceived as a comedic character at all; he was just going to be a regular, straight-laced dramatic character. But when James Callis started delivering some of the lines in a semi-improv comedic style that made people laugh while still serving the plot, they realized they could write for Callis's specific take on Baltar, and he quickly became the character as we now know him.
He brings a lot of British mannerisms and comedy that just worked and made a very unlikeable character very watchable. It’s a shame Callis wasn’t in much after BSG finished as he had a lot of potential. It was nice to see him again in Picard season 3 for a it, though.
Battlestar Galactica is one of the best movies, plot, music, actors etc. When you see this series you're deep dive in new world. Thanks to all creators!
I think I'm on my fourth time round watching the entire series. It's the only show I've ever purchased the complete set of seasons for and the movies. And I had the pleasure of meeting Katie Sackhoff at the Calgary Comic Expo one year. She was so kind and such a great actor. They all are. And the show is by far my favourite of all time.
I could not agree with you more. I too have the complete set including Razor and Caprica. It's one of those series that you can watch time and time again. Each time you learn a little more and things you've missed in the past. For a series that was already a hit in the past it took guts to put it together again with real differences from the original. I'm green with envy that you actually go to meet Katie Sackhoff. She is a wonderful actress. I put this series up with Babylon 5. Peace out.
@@evoeightyci Interesting fact. I told Katee my favourite episode was when she found and was piloting the Cylon Raider ship. She told me that was a horrible day for her because she was really sick that day and they'd prepared a bucket for her in the ship she could use if she was going to throw up. What actors will do for their craft! She signed the photo of her for me "We're going the wrong way!!!!". Was so awesome.
@@brendan1 That was great you actually got to meet her. I've heard the story of her being ill that day but didn't know about the bucket! I think just being inside that "monster" with all those great effects would make anyone sick never mind actually being sick. There is another series called Babylon 5 worth a look.
When people ask me what my favorite TV show of all time, I say "Battlestar Galactica". To this day, I can't remember any TV show giving me goosebumps, but this show did it when the Galactica jumped into the atmosphere on the camp where the humans were being held.
When Pegasus First Arrived for me. The whole scene is so good. From the suspense to Apollo going, It's Like a Dream. Then we pan to see Another Battlestar. And yes the Adama Maneuver is amazing moment in TV.
Love BSG and the characters. The actors really did some brilliant work. I watch Battlestar Galactica at least once a year when the real world gets too much for me. From Adama's decommissioning speech, “Why are we as a people worth saving?” to the final episode, the series gives me a big boost.
I watch it once a year sometimes more. Don't think I know many other shows were you connect that much with the cast. Thou I must say the expanse also is amazing.
" I watch Battlestar Galactica at least once a year when the real world gets too much for me" Wow, same here. When it gets tough (usually around autumn and winter) I rewatch the series.
BSG was the best thing on television from 2004 to 2008. Like, literally. It was beyond good, and will always hold up. I was entranced by it. Much respect to all who made the show, and all who acted in it. It seemed such a short run, and I wanted more, but it fulfilled its arc. A perfect tale. Much love to all of you.
The ending blew my mind when I realized are modern earth was populated by half Cylons and half humans and everyone was part of both. Such a great ending.
I had heard about the show and to be honest it really didn't sound like something I would like. Was just flipping through channels one day and started watching a show that seemed pretty cool not realizing it was BSG till after a commercial. I was amazed, and hooked. Turned out to be one of my all time favorite shows. The writing was harsh, and I mean that in a good way. Violence, real issues, hardships, the works, nothing candy coated. you got invested in every character. and the use of 'frack' was brilliant. I bust out and binge the whole series from time to time still.
She was a blonde bombshell. I remember going to strip club back in 2005. My buddy pointed to one of the dancers and said " omg she's a Cylon for sure". Was an inside joke every time we see a hottie
The show is soooo heavily underrated. Its the best show on television, ever. All of the other great ones such as breaking bad etc. came AFTER BSG. RDM is the most underrated writer and producer in Hollywood.
Now it's 2024 when I am writing this and it's been 20 years when this was first out... I just finished seeing the series for the 5th or 6th time... Thank you to all the people involved in this project, wonderful work and performance!
I was leery when I had heard Starbuck was going to be played by a woman. I was a fan of the original. I am glad I gave this a chance. It’s got to be my favorite Sci Fi series and Katee Sackoff has got to be one of my favorite actresses, all because of this show. It is phenomenal, considering this show spoke to a ton of issues immediately following 9/11. The story writing was excellent, the acting was excellent. Again, one of the best series of any genre out there ever.
Damn it! Every time I watch a BSG cast reunion, I say, "Hey, let's just rewatch the Pilot" then "OK season one too, but that's it !", before binging the whole series in a week. And I have chores to get done.
I wish they also mentioned the music. It was mind-blowing, an important parti of the show and also a suprising element of the story. I like all works of Bear, but BSG is the best.
I watched Battlestar Galactica back then and have watched the whole series four times since! I love the story, and I wish they would make a series about their survival and how the crew restarted humanity!
Oh Frak I love this show. Since it first came on Netflix and now on Peacock I watch the whole series once a year. As of today I'm halfway through season 2 for this year. So Say We All!!!
Loved the show. I kept hoping Dirk Benedict would show up as Starbucks father in some way early on. I liked Katie as Starbuck but Dirk was always my favorite. My favorite of the new show was Gaius Baltar, Great acting by James Callis.
This series defined the career of every single very talented people who worked to create this and bring it to life. Ron, Bear, David, all these wonderful young actors who learned their profession from some true theatre artists. I feel for them in a way because when BSG ended, none of them would ever be part of something this special ever again.
That is almost exactly what Edward James Olmos said at another reunion. That he was glad that BSG happened at the end of his career as an actor because nothing as great would come again. And that he was kind of feeling sorry for the younger ones.
This show was part of an important period of my life. I was a university student, watched it (together with other shows but BSG was the diamond of all) in my student dorm with my roomies. It was so intense, if I remember correctly there was also the writer guild strike and we had to wait for the continuation. My roomie and I were always trying to oredict the plot twists and whats happening next to the characters and storyline. As the show ended, I was overwhelmed by feelings. It carried me for the most part of my university time. At the end of the year I had to make the decision to leave university and start a new life back at home. Never regret it but it was a wonderful time, the show truely was a big part of it
When a respected legend of Olmos' stature rates it the best show he's been part of that says a lot; as he said himself, he's been in a lot and done some really good shows.
I remember the Sci-Fi Channel made an hourlong special commemorating the end of the series called "The Last Frakkin Special". Towards the end, Eddie reflects upon his association with BSG. "The one question that people always ask me as I'm walking around is, 'How's it feel to be on Battlestar Galactica?' and I always tell them, 'It's the frakkin best job I ever had!'"
I found this show by accident. I hear some of my coworkers talking about, but wasn’t interested since I remember the original as a kid and I thought it would be a kids show. Then in 2009 Circuit City went out of business and had to sell everything. So I bought the first two seasons and once I started…I could not stop. I now have the DVDs and Blu Ray, which is good since Peacock stopped carrying it. I have lost count how many times I have watched the show.
I love how Olmos felt that it would run for years from the beginning. It reminds me of how Shohreh Aghdashloo, who played S.G Avesarala, was saying that the show will go on for 6 Seasons to the cast and crew of The Expanse.
This reunion brought back so many memories. I watched the series in a little over 1 week the first time through... that's how addicted I was. I remember my first time watching it through... there were characters I loved and hated. But after re-watching the series so many times, all of them were just perfect. I think in the end, I would say my favourite subplot of the series was the relationship between Roslin and Adama. It embodied so much of the real world power struggle that exists in politics even today. Also, there was the aspect of Roslin being a woman trying to lead or co-lead in a world that had been or (has been) dominated by men. The disgust they had for each other in the first season contrasting with the incredible love they had for each other by the end of the journey... just absolutely amazing. Kudos to both Edward and Mary for their phenomenal portrayals of these legendary characters.
The first time I watched Battlestar Galactica was when I was sick for several days, which never happened to me before. I think the show was on a streaming service at the time and I watched most of it in three days. I was hooked. I couldn’t get the ending out of my mind. Still a favorite to this day.
10:46 I was born in 1972 and watched the original BSG as it came out. It helped inform my childhood. So, when I say that Katie Sackoff IS Starbuck, the Starbuck in my head canon, the only Starbuck, understand it's saying a lot. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜 I've watched this series 4 times start to finish. It's Peacock's only reason imo.
So Say We All is something I heard from my manager a few months ago, and this is the only show I attended watch parties for. This is a significant work.
It’s a completely different take on the story. 40 years later with different actors, writing and technology. One version of Starbuck doesn’t need to be better than another. They are simply different.Played by very different actors and of course gender, which alone put a different perspective on the outcome.
Absolutely agreed. And Dirk Benedict sadly turned out to be a massive tool - remember the piece he wrote that was basically a rant against feminism in general and more specifically Katee Sackhoff being cast as Starbuck? If you don’t, don’t worry - it was epically dumb.
@@ThereIsAlwaysaWay2 I feel ya. I used to clear my Friday because I would be binge watching till early next morning. My brother and nephew would be tapping on my bedroom window to see if I was alive. Haha 😂
Such an amazing intersection of writing, cast, and even the effects for their age hold up better than some billion dollar franchises. It will always be one of my top five favorite series.
Same here! I initially watched it with a roommate friend of mine back in 2016 (yes, right before that infamous election) and just finished re-watching it with my wife a few weeks ago. It will stand out as a timeless and extremely well executed TV series and arguably one of the best ever of the genre. As stated by the cast and series creator, the real beauty of the show is in the cohesion of the ensemble cast and the relevant themes that they portrayed. Best TV reboot ever, in my opinion!
Lot's of goosebumps watching this. I have all the DVD's and I watch from beginning to end about once a year. Wish the current crop of writers could pull off a show like this, but it's not happening currently. Even with more sophisticated special effects now days, the writing falls flat in modern TV and movies.
I fully agree with the recommendation to watch the Expanse. It's very well done and well written. Today's great writers can write great stories but they are not being hired due to diversity hiring for non-writing-skill based qualities. But there are a few great shows being produced occasionally. The first season of West World was amazingly awesome. Andor is superb, surprised the heck out of me coming from Disney, the horrific woke nightmare that they have become.
I’m glad they brought that up around the 37 minute mark. I’ve seen Katee in a bunch of different roles, but this one just seemed to have more character than others. I got the feeling she wasn’t really having to try all that hard to act like Starbuck because she IS Starbuck.
Best series for me ever. Final episode broke me. I cried for 2 weeks! It was a perfect, realistic ending, not a HAPPY ending. I think thats why people hate on it at times. They're just heartbroken.

But when James Callis started delivering some of the lines in a semi-improv comedic style that made people laugh while still serving the plot, they realized they could write for Callis's specific take on Baltar, and he quickly became the character as we now know him.
No more mr nice gaius
He brings a lot of British mannerisms and comedy that just worked and made a very unlikeable character very watchable. It’s a shame Callis wasn’t in much after BSG finished as he had a lot of potential. It was nice to see him again in Picard season 3 for a it, though.
Unfrackinbelievable! What a cast and they don’t appear to have aged. The world needs more Battlestar Galactica.
I also was a fan of the original Battlestar Galactica but the reboot was absolutely superb in every way. Everyone on the cast was brilliant.
Issue was BS 1978 suffered from cost of production. If they had sucked it up and took the show to a 5 season run, it would have been phenomenal.
Once every two years for me, and I still love it as much as I did during its run... maybe more.
I think I've watched it at least once, and sometimes twice a year since the show ended, I love it so much. ❤
" I watch Battlestar Galactica at least once a year when the real world gets too much for me"
Wow, same here. When it gets tough (usually around autumn and winter) I rewatch the series.
@@TStormGuy Yes! It's about that time.
Much love to all of you.
probably the best post-9/11 show ever, perfectly embodying every angle of Walt Kelly's quote from Pogo: "We have met the enemy and he is us"
This is one of the best TV series ever made, not just sci-fi... Congrats to all involved in this absolute epic.
SO SAY WE ALL
The ending blew my mind when I realized are modern earth was populated by half Cylons and half humans and everyone was part of both. Such a great ending.
Pure magic- best show I ever watched.⚡️⚡️
Just finished a rewatch. This show is incredible. One of the very best series ever made. For the record, I think the ending is perfect.
The GREATEST REBOOT EVER!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ron D Moore = Sci Fi tv series brilliance. BSG2 and DS9 were the two best ever. The Expanse, Space Above & Beyond are also up there.
Tricia Helfer is one of the most beautiful woman on earth, was then and still is now.
She was a blonde bombshell. I remember going to strip club back in 2005. My buddy pointed to one of the dancers and said " omg she's a Cylon for sure". Was an inside joke every time we see a hottie
Nope. She looks trans.
She’s definitely in my top 2
Grace Park is stunning also
How can this remake be almost 20 years old..... I old.
Ron Moore took the minor characters like Tigh and Boomer from the old show and made them more interesting in the new series.
The opposite of what showrunners are doing today. Sadly. Hope we get back there
How does Grace Park not age? She looks incredible!
Because she's a cylon!
@@tyharris9994 Great answer!
She's fraking cylon man.......
Asians just don’t raisin
My God, Mary McDonnell hasn't aged a day😮
I wish they also mentioned the music.
Best, fracking show ever made for TV, of any genre. Period.
SO SAY WE ALL
It's cool that they actually got a reporter who was a legitimate fan of the show to talk about it in Shirley Li.
Oh Frak I love this show. Since it first came on Netflix and now on Peacock I watch the whole series once a year. As of today I'm halfway through season 2 for this year. So Say We All!!!
41:20 OMG I can't believe it. All this time, and I still started sobbing. That scene broke my heart.
Having met Michael Hogan... I've never met such a genuinely personable guy ever in my life! Helluva an actor!
Loved the show. I kept hoping Dirk Benedict would show up as Starbucks father in some way early on. I liked Katie as Starbuck but Dirk was always my favorite. My favorite of the new show was Gaius Baltar, Great acting by James Callis.
My favorite show of all time.
Best cast chemistry ever.
This series defined the career of every single very talented people who worked to create this and bring it to life. Ron, Bear, David, all these wonderful young actors who learned their profession from some true theatre artists. I feel for them in a way because when BSG ended, none of them would ever be part of something this special ever again.
The only two actors that were known was the captain and the president everyone else were new comers not known and all them were fantastic
That is almost exactly what Edward James Olmos said at another reunion. That he was glad that BSG happened at the end of his career as an actor because nothing as great would come again. And that he was kind of feeling sorry for the younger ones.
One of my favourite series. Really well made, even my wife loved it! :)
Never regret it but it was a wonderful time, the show truely was a big part of it
People so often talk about how this or that narrative saved their lives or made life bearable. This show renewed my faith in everything but faith.
This filled me with joy, not just the memories but the people themselves. I love this show, even more than the original and I grew up on it.
Jim telling Andy the reboot is a shot for shot remake of the original and Dwight losing it is my favorite bit on The Office.
LOVED the gutsy move to cast a female Starbuck! She was awesome.
Show gave us the Adama maneuver.... "99,000 - falling like a rock! "
Such a big part of my mid to late teens - each week waiting on an episode.
I love how Olmos felt that it would run for years from the beginning. It reminds me of how Shohreh Aghdashloo, who played S.G Avesarala, was saying that the show will go on for 6 Seasons to the cast and crew of The Expanse.
Still my favourite television series ever made. 👍
It's BSG and The Shield for me.
Best Si-Fi series ever.
Best scene is that long travelling with all the characters when they set foot on Earth (Revelations s4x10).
Thanks for the great show
Fun to watch Moore and the cast work their magic, plus an ending that worked
Loved this series! And, "Frack" is still my go to word for colorful language.
This is one of the best reboots ever imo. The character development and the universal human struggles and conflicts made this show age with grace.
Shit ..... I cried 3 times watching this documentary, and I am NOT a crier. This series affects me in a deep way that I don't understand at all.
BSG, was such a huge part of me growing up. Loved it.
Such a well done show, and one of the very few that got the sound, or more accurately , lack of sound correct in space
Katee Sackhoff's Starbuck is a WAY stronger and better character than the Starbuck of the original series. There. I said it. And you know I'm right.
Nope
It’s a completely different take on the story. 40 years later with different actors, writing and technology. One version of Starbuck doesn’t need to be better than another. They are simply different.Played by very different actors and of course gender, which alone put a different perspective on the outcome.
Absolutely agreed. And Dirk Benedict sadly turned out to be a massive tool - remember the piece he wrote that was basically a rant against feminism in general and more specifically Katee Sackhoff being cast as Starbuck? If you don’t, don’t worry - it was epically dumb.
Yep 😊
Man I watched this show religiously in the day - great plots, storyline’s, great actors
I binge it when I feel low. A two days Battlestar binges cures pretty much anything.
@@ThereIsAlwaysaWay2 I feel ya. I used to clear my Friday because I would be binge watching till early next morning. My brother and nephew would be tapping on my bedroom window to see if I was alive. Haha 😂
@@nevilleanitelea1372 LOL .... we're kindred spirits LOL
Such an amazing intersection of writing, cast, and even the effects for their age hold up better than some billion dollar franchises. It will always be one of my top five favorite series.
Mine too. So say we all !!!! LOL.
I just watched it for the first time last year and the effects still look amazing. They really nailed it
I’ve just finished re-watching the entire series. Brilliant stuff😎
I would suggest checking The Expanse; BSG is still my #1, but The Expanse is phenomenal as well.
@@Sephiroth144 agreed about The Expanse and BSG. BSG has a special place in my heart and always will but The Expanse is equally superb !!
I REALLY MISS this show! love it.
One of the 3 best sci-fi series of all time.
I LOVE this series! (And Katee too :-)
I’m glad they brought that up around the 37 minute mark. I’ve seen Katee in a bunch of different roles, but this one just seemed to have more character than others. I got the feeling she wasn’t really having to try all that hard to act like Starbuck because she IS Starbuck.
I feel like she played the exact same character on Longmire. Doesn't matter... I rewatch both of these all the time. I love her in both.
One of the best TV shows in history
SO SAY WE ALL
Best series for me ever. Final episode broke me. I cried for 2 weeks! It was a perfect, realistic ending, not a HAPPY ending. I think thats why people hate on it at times. They're just heartbroken.
Thank you for sharing this Outstanding Presentation about The Greatest & Most Meaningful show Ever !!!
For Fraksake Bring it back !!!
All hail BSG the most amazing sci-fi show to grace our screens!
