  • For 48 seconds, flying at 20,000 feet, we purposely turned off the engine of our #T7A test aircraft to test its ability to restart mid-flight. The jet restarted flawlessly. Hear from the pilots who flew this vital test of the future U.S. Air Force advanced trainer.

    I took my Ford Explorer out on the freeway, got my speed up to 110 mph and then shut the engine off! I'm not sure if it was the engine, the automatic transmission, or maybe its just that my Explorer wasn't designed like the T-7. But things didn't go smoothly.

      It doesn't share anything with F-16, it's more like T-38 Talon and F-18 had a baby. I guess it having a single engine made you think of F-16.
      F-16 is made by a different company and has different avionics, different propulsion configuration, technology and slightly different controls under the hood.

      @stephencannon3140 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They are still around in the US and can be used specifically for this purpose. Even military aircraft are recycled and put to use after retirement. The ones you see in the desert are airframe with extremely high flight hours and cycles. Manufacturers can use the aircraft over again especially a small agile aircraft like the A-4 as a airborne spotter/safety observer. All the weapons systems are removed and pretty much the military part of it is gone. Can be used by air enthusiast groups. The WW2 aircraft that you see flying at modern air shows are a perfect example. Even the vintage aircraft on static display at air shows had to be flown from somewhere to the show right?

      @Pavan Kumar Serbia has a long history of producing own military aircraft. However, it is a *very* expensive business and few contemporary states/manufacturers are still capable of producing this type of modern sophisticated military aircraft. Those are usually regional powers and superpowers, and Serbia is not really at that level. Serbia already stated its intention to upgrade its aged and dwindling fleet - so, in my opinion, buying T-7As would be a great solution.

      @perelfberg7415 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it's just proofing. This are not the factors you buy they are just considered as some thing that should just work.
      Same for gripen in brazin and Sweden. Why do tests by the company and then again by the individual airforce. Just costs alot of money.
      And in this case the aft is from Saab and its not really new tech. This it the stuff they always have built.
      Todays air world is to slow to wait for some thing to be finaly developed before accuiring. Then you will just have to do an update first thing. Companys need to work way closer with the involved airforces. Not like F35 and F18 F26 as it currently is. Can not take 3-5 years between updates

    • @vandecasa3795
      @vandecasa3795 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a big deal but needs to be tested regardless. First of all, this was more to test the airplane and not the pilots. Secondly this airplane is designed to go supersonic, to do aggressive aerobatics and pull G's just like "real" fighter jets as well as operate in all weather and highly variable altitude- and speed-ranges. None of which "Gliders", "Cessnas" and "Ultralights" are even remotely capable of.

These are 100X superior than the original MiG-21s. Anyway, what i want to say is that when we search F-7, it shows up, if USA makes the same aircraft with the same name it might get confusing to some. Well, i think we could buy some of these T-7s for our Advanced Flight Training squadron at BAF. :)

    Not sure I quite understand this. If you are procedurally shutting down an engine in an emergency, it’s not likely you will want to restart it. I guess if the engine fails unexpectedly will it restart?? You never can tell with news reports. They can’t seems to get it right half the time.

      Engines can fail midair for a variety of reasons but still be operational, it's crucial to be able to restart them mid flight. On some aircraft like the Saab AJS-37 Viggen, a compressor stall could choke the engine. The engine would be functional but simply not running, necessitating a mid air restart. Similarly, the fire suppression systems on some aircraft shut down the engine, which needs to be restarted after.

      Depends on the plane but sometimes even just an unusual maneuver can starve the engine of fuel and cause a failure. The mig21 I fly in dcs world shuts down after like 2 seconds of negative g's so I have to restart a lot lol

    Dear Boeing Team. I hope you should prepare for conducting a "Landing" after Switching Off the T-7 Engine, simulation for a critical working condition that a real failure Engine would offer our Pilots should choose the right choice Landing the Aircraft T-7 without any bad Thrilling, no need a help from their Parachutes in good enough working environment of Wind and Temperature. Is it ok for Boeing? Please kindly feel free to let me know. Thank you. With best regards. Tony.
