That happens if you burn all your money in non sense useless wars at the other side of the world. Good for the rest of the world. US pulling back from Afganistan now. 2:00 I've assembled Boeing structures and the level of detail that goes into the base structure is just amazing. They have go / no-go gauges for everything...and all tightly controlled. They measure holes for all sorts of things....concentricity, edge distance, perpendicularity, not to mention size (interference fit....or close tolerance and so forth). Like they told us, "you aren't adding material back into the hole as you run the drill bit through it a second time." And the ever popular, "The customer is buying a new product, not a repaired one." With the level of quality in that structure there at 2:00 it will last 50 years.

      You need other pilot to take care of Navigation

    • @brodieboy3
      @brodieboy3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Why do you 'need' A single seater? Having the 2nd seat means that every plane has the option for a second operator if the mission calls for it .. and lots of A2G missions do as evidenced by the Strike Eagle. There's also a benefit to having a few command/control, navigation, & communication guys and some planes may get.optimized for EW operations by adding Growler jamming pods. I also see UCAVs/ loyal wingmen becoming a bigger part of most every mission.
      EXs accompanied by stealthy ucavs will likely become the norm for 1st day strikes and taking out enemy air defenses where you don't want to risk losing pilots and even stealthy F35s will become more vulnerable and they don't have sufficient on-board fire power by themselves to take on enemy fighters reacting to the initial attacks.
      F35s will, however, be valuable as they silently lay in wait along side EXs to attack any fighters that do respond .. at which point more EXs loaded up with cruise missiles and other A2G weapons can proceed further forward to take and command & control, air base, infrastructure & enemy troop concentration targets.

One of the things that stands out in my mind was the curtural difference between the commercial side of Boeing (the legacy company) and the militiary side which was the McDonnell Douglas legacy. The military side of Boeing has had nothing but success after success. The latest variant of the F15 is continues that legacy of success.

    Those conformal fuel cells on the sides of the intakes really do look awesome and they really blend in to the overall design of the aircraft. And the new avionics and weapons system make it very useful along side the F-22 and F-35. All three linked together electronically and acquirering and targeting for each other thru data link makes for one heck of a punch when all three are used together. With a little help from India and their electronic expertise makes this an unbeatable trio. And the new missles being developed and built must really have Russia and China a little nervous about how to handle America's newest hardware in the sky. Go USA. LONG LIVE THE F-15EX.

    At 1:18 or so you can see those old Fenwal style overheat detectors. You'd think by now they could have some sort of infrared overheat detectors or an air sampler or something. Just think if one of the detectors in the engine bay fail......that's an engine removal. Crazy in this day and age.

    Man, I would love to see the USAF acquire all those 144 units predicted by the military contract. 144 of those could free up a lot of F-22 for deployment overseas or closer to the USA's most far away borders, such as Alaska and Hawaii, while still having what's probably the best 4th gen bird to watch over their skies, and replace the legacy F-15C/D which are slated to be retired.

    The F-15 legacy fighter is the stuff of legend, the F-15EX is only the Legacy F-15 in appearance , it is closer to an F-22 in performance and avionics without the stealth, but it will dominate the skies in WVR dogfight ( within visual range), and even prevail in most BVR fights because of it's incredible AESA Radar

They are the first unit scheduled to receive the new Eagle to replace their C/D versions. The 123rd started with the A/B as handed down from the 318th based at McChord, AFB and have flown the type since. The Eagle replaced the F-4C which had replaced the F-101B which had replaced the F-102's that I grew up watching as a kid.

      A huge difference is Northrop was trying to sell to the USAF an aircraft it didn't want (the Air Force was happy with the F16, they didn't really care too much about the costs increases over the years). On the other hand, the Air Force is not completely happy with the cost (procurement & maintenance) vs. performance of the F35A, plus once we have enough stealth aircraft needed to suppress the air defense and dominate the airspace, stealth requirement is no longer critical for most missions.

Imo we need a mix of stealth fighters and fast, reliable fighters like the EX which can carry a variety of weapons the F35 and F22 cannot.
