They also did a Spanish language version titled "No Comprende" that is included.
This song just popped into my head, so I just looked it up. I was just a kid when I first heard this song first came out. WOW. It had stuck in my head so very many decades ago. A genuine classic indeed.
Fantastic song we used to sing in college but we couldn't get the full lyrics as there were no tap recorders then in India. Rarely it was played on Radio Ceylon or on voice of America' s breakfast show. Yet we sang the tune with gusto. Necessity is the mother of invention, so goes a saying. Despite all the handicaps in the 60' s there was never a dull moment in our lives. Our greatest handicap then was poverty and suppressed desires,but our ambition to do something, learn, and achieve was very high. That was the spirit we carried, those who were between in the 50''s. As I listen to this it takes me back to a long trans-atlantic flight I was on while in the USAF. There was music to listen to on the plane and one the songs was Yellow River which I must have listen a dozen times on my way to Germany. Still one of my all time favorites!
Now this is real music. Not the crap that’s on the radio today. I too remember first hearing it at 8-years-old. The spring of 1973. I think they need to put this type of music on the radio again. Maybe the next generation will get some lessons about real life. I call it Reality Life.
One of this black Detroit 60's chick's favorite songs l would play to death. I was 19 in 1970 when this was a hit and I still love the song. Was surprised to learn this song wasn't about Vietnam, which we all just assumed it was in 1971, I certainly did. A Dutch TV documentary has Christie on camera saying it was a civil-war song and the clue is his use of "cannon fire" not "artillery." Bummer!
