I went to the woods alone for a solo overnight camp out at the Bushcraft Shelter. I bought with me my Bushcraft Knife, Axe, Backpack, Sleeping Bag, Roll mat and some pretty top notch food which I cook on the fire. Hope you enjoy it folks.

You and Primitive technology inspired me to go out camping in woods near were i live with friends. We started a fire with no lighter only natural tinder and flint & knife. made our own cooking setup with pan and logs to cook steak and it was some of the most fun i had in my life thank you so much for the cool and fun videos, from William.
Awesome William! Glad to have inspired you, keep enjoying the outdoors buddy!
Its called a saw horse in the US
I call it a saw horse in Canada
I call it a Kajigger
Gunner Mclovin its called a zaag bok!
Germany: Sägebock
In the USA we call it a Saw Buck.
Saw horses are some what different .
I don't know why, but this has a calming effect to it. Might be because of you're voice or that you're not rushing around and being stressed out about every little detail. First video I've watched, but enjoyed it thoroughly. Subscribed... 👍
Critter Cosner pretty much same with me
Now that the Bushcraft Camp is history, I still return to this episode. I wish you had left this section of the camp for last since it was the first, or like the first in type. Coziness, shelter, access to the fire in colder weather: this one has all of the basics demonstrated...and filmed so well.
I tell you what you have entertained me and are teaching me a lot! My children enjoy watching you with me! You have inspired me! Granted I can't do all that you do since I am a chronic pain patient but you give me lots of ideas just watching you and I feel I have learned many things from you. We live in Northern NY USA lots of wooded areas around us on the North side of the Adirondacks! Hopefully in the near future the wife and kids will enjoy going camping and fishing with me! Keep up the good job! I will continue watching!
This is my idea of 'ICONIC' TAOUTDOORS videos! I keep rewatching it. This is my favorite among your cooking cranes and the 'low bed' shelter does all that is needed.
Thanks James.. This was actually the first of my videos to ever get proper traction. I still keep looking back to it to remind myself of where I came from and to not drift too far !
A little trick we use to keep sparks off of the sleeping bag. purchase a welding blanket to cover your sleeping bag...and you will not have to worry about your bag, as you sleep with a big fire.....Goo Day..Mate
Except that welding blankets, being made of leather are EXTREMELY heavy, making them impractical for camping.
@@MrPanzerblitz well they do have them made of asbestos too but that's a whole nother set of problems lol
@@DavetheLeg lol
We call it a saw horse here in Lancaster PA USA
shooter1721 yea same in Tennessee
shooter1721 yes Lancaster pa
Same in Texas
Same in Oklahoma.
I was just their last weekend ago for a swim meet
So many great videos by you and Joe Robinet. Is there anything better than crashing in the forest and eating fire cooked steaks? Can't wait to get outdoors this year.
Tinder bag throwdown. Damn it. Tinder bag throwdown...Yeeaaaahhhh. Lmfao
you're awesome. saw horse😉 cheers.
I just found this guys and so far he is such a youtuber and I love do what he is doing so thank you for the inspiration to camp
Cool video. I wouldn't want ash all over my steak or burger, but that's just me... Wish I could get a camp trip in soon.
Yes to the saw horse. As a kid I had to saw logs and we called it a saw horse. At least in my part of Ontario. As for cancer I feel now a days our foods have more crappie in it. Plus things we know now and didn't know then. Sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite. Things told to us as kids. Cheers.
Super nice camp, Mike! Well organized and obviously a good amount of thought went into its build. I love the rotating or swivel crane for your cooking pot and your bacon. I miss going to the butcher's shop in Thetford when I was stationed at RAF Lakenheath, Suffolk. We bought all our meat fresh including spare ribs. I couldn't believe that not too long before the Americans moved into Thetford the butcher used to throw ribs into the garbage can.
I think starvation and hunger played a huge role in the life expectancy of primitive people before they learnt farming.
Wild Brigante We were expert hunter back in the day, one of the best methods is the fact we're the best long distance runners on the planet so we'd chase animals till they died from exhaustion.
I'm from Canada and it's called a Saw Horse here too..
Down south we call them saw horses. as for hot drinks you can heat stones and set the cup on the hot stone like a coaster to keep it hot.
The light shows amazing with your quality camera...the ember light reflecting in your eye colour...love the cough cough pine needle quip...I am new to rib eye steak and think it is better than sirloin...food tastes much better outdoors...you make the outdoors look safe warm and home...thanks...mind the smoke...consistently top quality videos...cheers...
Saw horse...(Eastern Canada)Enjoyed your video; so glad there are "young folks" like yourself keeping the skills going. Where are your vegetables? Baked potatoes/carrots/ onions, garlic....lol..try a baked sweet potato some time...
Come to Arizona for some desert survival! Or invite me to England for a bit of soggy survival! PS - the ribeye is spot on!
Done the White Mountains for Apache trout,Largemouth Bass in Lake Saguaro, and Lake Powell for Striped Bass. Great climate, superb scenery, and of course shopping in Scottsdale !..Can't beat it. Arizona sunshine !
Yep. In America they're saw horses.
Just discovered this one--been watching you and your dad for years now--and I just love it. I'll be sure to watch out for the pine needles when I try my hand at pine needle tea!
yum. I love ash and forest floor compost particles on my burgers!!!
I hope you brought enough bacon for all of us!!!
Uncle Duke haha
#teambacon
Uncle Duke Lol, now I'm hungry, darn it. 😃
A man has got to eat!!!
Take care!!
For us 0ld Timers we used to call it a "Saw Buck". But, like all things with the newer generation they seem to change names of stuff.....
Saw horse in the USA! It's been sed already but I guess one more time! Love you channel nice and clean! Some of the channels are great but some just can't keep a clean enough mouth! I don't care don't bother me much but hard to reach out to the younger crowd with F bomb's every other word and not much class! Keep up the great work!
Yeah we just call it a 'saw horse' here in Arizona in the U.S. Great videos though love the content and learned loads of great tips for cold weather camping.
Vlogs like these calm my nerves and ease the stress and relieve tensions.
In Australia we call them sticks
Aussies have the best slang
It may be called a saw horse in the US now, but originally it was called a 'sawbuck', thus the term 'buck saw'. One would bring timber to the sawbuck and 'buck' it into pieces using the saw. The bonus part of this little history lesson is that the early (and I'm talking really early, like frontier early) ten dollar bills in the US used the Roman numeral for 10 - this being an 'X'. There were two of these on opposite corners of the banknote. The supporting section of a sawbuck was shaped like an 'X'. Thus a ten dollar bill became a 'buck'. Nowadays this has been extrapolated to mean a single dollar, but originally, a 'buck' was ten dollars. A twenty dollar bill had a double 'X' and was termed a 'double sawbuck'. Don't ask me how I know this as an Australian, let's just say my Dad is an avid banknote collector.
D.
Thanks aplenty for the information. That's worth some bucks. Ha ha ha
Am I right if I say a buck is another name for a horse or a deer.?
What axe/hatchet is that? I really like it👍
Husqvarna Hatchet Hobby
Thank you
+TA Outdoors realy fort thay only made dirt bikes or comletly diffrent and were you in the uk im in north essex

TA Outdoors Yay a swedish brand there the best! (Im from sweden and I live close to husqvarna!)
I am envious that you don't have to worry about large animals trying to eat your bits in the night like we do in North America :P
Americans call it a 'saw-horse,' too. That is one fantastic fire! : )
we have the same thing we just say saw horse though instead of sawing
His american impressions tho

Good bit of info about having first aid kit out where everyone can see it and not in your pack somewhere.....fumbling for it when your injured!
In Russia that thing is called "козлы" :)
Yes, I am from the Czech Republic (formerly Czechoslovakia) and we call the thing "KOZA". In English it means "a goat". So it is similar to the Russian name.
Влад Борисыч my parents are Hispanic and they call it Burro so Donkey in English
Влад Борисыч i cant even read it 😑
козлић Serbia
Grabmypussy lmao.
"pardon my manners, i'm hungry" lol. you're excused.
In America where I'm at, we call it a Sawhorse.
In Texas we call it a saw horse. Love the camp!

any tips for a first time camper?
Yeh, make sure you have someone is happy to pick you up at anytime. It's ok if you don't feel comfortable doing it and want to leave, just make sure you have a method of getting out of there. Take a mobile phone for safety purposes. The thing that will make you least enjoy it is getting cold. Protect yourself from the elements first, then you will enjoy it more. In winter, the dark nights are long (dark from 4pm where I am), so read up on some carving projects that you can do whilst at camp. Final tip - whenever you think you have enough firewood, get twice as much, especially in winter. Hope that helps. - Mike
yeah don't make pine needle tea - it's not tea it's pine flavored water and nasty
danny. Hi. I've done a bit of camping, I grew up in the country side so i started quite young. it depends on how far you are from civilisation (like running water, heating, food ect) and if you have a car or not. those things make alot of difference as to what you need to take with you. I'd suggest for a first time, tell people where your going, bring a phone and preferably don't be on your own. there's alot of factors really, do you have a car? how old are you and how long will it take you to get to your camp site?
TA Outdoors I agree about the fire wood always runs out.
Tim Husk Build a track with a incline on both sides of the fire. Load with logs, as the logs burn another will roll in place and will be lit because it automatically feeds the fire. Hard to explain through texting. Hope you understand. I've actually had to live in the woods, not just camping. Another tip, gather dryer lint when you clean the lint catcher, great firestarter.
alfie is the man! he actually got me into this kinda thing, so if it wasnt for him i wouldnt be here! wish he made videos again :(
I've made pine needle tea by putting a bandana around the lid and securing it with a rubber band, setting the needles in that, and pouring the hot water through that.
6:51 did anyone else hear that faint t-Rex yelling i know it wasn't a t-Rex but it's sure sounded like one
Swlaster Dud 707 I heard it haha
It was a car
Swlaster Dud 707 yes I did it was weird
Definetely A trex bro
Definitely a rex
Canadians Speak English so it is a saw horse
Ontario Bushcraft yeah but in different countries we say some stuff different from other countries
rubbish
Good example Ontario Bushcraft ;) .......rubbish = garbage = trash. Same lingo, different terminology.
Ontario Bushcraft thanks 👍🏻
What is that thing you call soccer again?
how come you just didn't wear your knife while hiking in?
cazador1022 in the uk allot of people will freak out if you are out hiking and walk past them with a bigger knife out on show
oh wow. Im sorry. I knew hoplophobia existed in the UK with guns but i did not know it extended to outdoor tools in the woods. Sorry. I enjoyed the video. How long to build that shelter?
Its not a phobia its just the truth. He wasnt in the woods the whole way now was he he probibly went past a civilisation. I mean if you were walking around the mall with a giant knife on you im pretty sure people will notice it. Also in england its illegal thats also why america has a 600% higher crime rate then us
And we dont have hoplophobia of guns, its just they have been illegal for EVER
Yeah but U.S. also has nearly 5-6 times the population of the entire UK that's where your 600% comes from
He's the most funny bushcrafter 🤣🤣
your so lucky you get to do this. it costs money where i go camping and rarely get to since i am so far from the woods. Great vid too by the way.
In Dutch we call that a zaagbok
Zaagbok? 🤔
Hey i live in England and i love bushcraft but i cant find anywhere to set up a camp and do some proper practice, any ideas on how to find a place?
CPS iv got one MOVE TO CANADA lol
xXtrousasnakeXx come to the US in Michigan's UP. It's all over the place.
Same
I live near saltburn and not menny woods wear people don't go lol
There's always the tree farm forests in Scotland. I suppose that Sherwood Forest has been clearcut, and been turned into ticky-tacky housing developments, like where Harry Potter spent his early childhood, eh?
In Poland it is called "koziołek" which means: goat 😉
Heavy Baits Fishing koza for short
In Finland it is a "saw goat" LOL
In Montana it’s a sawbuck.
In my region of Poland its caled "kobyłka
Cool vid! I like looking nature, discover and loosen up...
Nice vid this helped me for me and my dads camping trip ps:I visited Florida for my camping trip
we call it a vice in wales
Deiniol Davies odd..last man from wales on here said its a poormans workmate. And here in America a vice clamps objects. Or..is also a bad habit one cannot rid
In America, we call smoking a vice. Do you still have pasties in Wales? Because the Welsh miners brought them over to Michigan's Upper Penninsula, where they remain very popular.
sawhorse or a poormans workmate in wales.
Saw horse in the North East of the US my friend.
Ducky1521 general consensus in USA is SAWHORSE.
raymond bailey sawhorse is so much quicker.
raymond bailey also..how arrogant and pompous that you refer to an outside tradesmans tool as POORMANS ...
In Illinois in the us we call it a saw horse

First things first, I feel like youre the only outdoor survival themed channel i can watch for hours without getting bored, ur so skilled and interesting to watch, I Also love your dog(i love all dogs tho) PS, In Norway we call that : Sagbenk, saghest, hesterygg or kuttebord
Thank you
Saw horse here in North Carolina...USA.... Hope you had a Wonderful Christmas!
You put our local bacon to cook like that.....oh the humanity. Unless you like greasy charcoal.
I think the caveman short life span had more to do with infection.
if a man lives long enough, he will get cancer.
just my thoughts on your thoughts.
Spot on Hector.
Hector Zavala so off base and wrong tobacco and even marijuana smoke causes cancer period with or without added chemicals
heiðinn not even close tobacco and marijuana smoke is carcinogenic thats a confirmed fact
Justin Bobby inhaling any sort of smoke is bad and likely life threatening one way or another if repeated. If it’s not meant to be in your body, it’s gonna kill ya.
Smoke is a product of incomplete combustion, leaving dangerous chemical remnants wafting in the air, and onto the skin, and into the lungs of any living thing close by. Weed smoke is still really bad for the lungs. Cigarettes are worse because of the additives, but inhaling any kind of smoke is really bad, especially with frequency over time.
You can't carry any thing that could be deemed as an offensive weapon openly in the UK. What is classed as one is up to the police or courts to decide. I have been stopped by the police near some woods I was going to wild camp in and they saw my knife and asked what I was using it for I explained and I was on my way. However any flick knifes etc are illegal as the only use for them is to cause injury.... Hope that clears the UK law on knifes for our american friends.
NUFCBOB wow I would be on the nearest boat getting the fuck out of there! Don't see how y'all do it man. I'm so forever thankful we kicked yalls ass in 1776 and got you the fuck out of our country.
deke edwards Yup, our government is backwards as all fuck so when SHTF here most of us are royally fucked.
learn something new every day, cheers!
yung キアン actually yanks or Yankees are new englanders/ northerners Texas is the south and during the civil war we called the north Yankees
actually, anyone who is from USA is considered a yank in the UK.
Pine needle tea sounds like it’d go great with dirt soup
Hahaha, 'don't leave your firesteel!', friendly jab at Joe? :P
its called a work bench in the us
Lambo Gaming wrong. A work bench a a strong table for tasking. The general consensus in USA is Sawhorse
Lambo Gaming go back to gaming u sunshine millinial.
It's a saw horse in the US.. Chris is correct. . You are thinking of something different. .
Nuh-uh. That's a horse of a different color altogether.
You copy joe robneit
Awesome video man plenty of great tips!
love watching your videos great and useful information. I associate most of them with the thought of survival. 1 thinkg I've never seen and figured I'd give input. 9v battery and steel wool, great fire starter
We call it a saw horse in Kentucky too mate. Honestly in the southern mountains we got a lot of our jargon from our Scotch Irish and Welsh ancestors.
"Sawring horse?! What is that man?!" Hahaha had me laughing so hard but yes saw horse in Canada!
Love the Alfie quote 👍
Wow! I never knew that you could cook directly on coals, but hardly any ashes remain on the meat. I want to try that now, thank you.
It was nice knowing you !!
Any smoke will contain carcinogens and recent studies show that burning food or even cooking on a fire or BBQ can increase the risk of cancer but cancer is mainly a self destruction mechanism to stop cells getting too old (massive over simplification). I would expect any cave man to have an increased risk of cancer but never get it as they would die too young. Great videos! really making me consider getting back to camping and even going 'rough'. I would love a video on the different types of uk trees and how to spot them and pros/cons etc
Saw horse in NY. It's possibly your UK accent that is confusing. You use the 'r' and you short a vowel sounds like a long o vowel. Then your putting the ing on sawing. Sounds like you're saying soaring horse to us across the pond. 😊 Absolutely love your videos and I am learning so much! I I'm a cancer patient on a small budget and your videos are a huge help. I'm choosing to live off-grid. my dad was navy Special forces and we're Native American so I I prefer the woods to an expensive boring apartment anyway. I am having great fun & a About to start making my own videos as an engineering & math prodigy. I am going to make sure I give credit to all you great instructors who taught me.
I've got the same first Ade kit as you got it from the range at tesco
Watching thid while making my own bushcraft backpack thanks for being inspiring
Bon Appetit!!! Salt? Rockefort with cream milk together, and all on the steak??? With a potato between the brasas??? You need some sartén.
Awesome, awesome video pal. So glad I stumbled on it. Just subbed too! atb Andy
Where's your tourniquet? Should have one with your 1st aid. #1 thing to have in the woods. Great vid.
In the US where I live it's called a saw horse just as you call it. Great videos!
Saw horse in Canada, but I never made one in camp. Will do going forward!
Outstanding theory you came up with, as for me, I will also think and research on this matter. If I come up with anything I will let you know...
