You don't have to explain the necessity for supporting your family. This channel provides a valuable service for those who resonate with its content. It is entertaining, educational, thought provoking and showcases man, nature and beast (Jaxx) at their best! Lol! For those who can’t understand that you have chosen to earn a livelihood doing something you enjoy, and that poses no out-of-pocket expense for them- then…they have other issues going on. Haters will hate, supporters will support. Keep doing what you do. Follow your bliss!

@Devon Shirley as a native Louisiana, I think you will enjoy camping here. We are considered SPORTSMAN PARADISE. The further south you go, the more swamps and bayou's. It is a great state with tasteful cajun food and southern hospitality. You should visit Lafayette, Henderson, New Iberia, Beax Bridge. They are all in a 30 to 40 mile radius from each other. Ask about The Boiling Point - it is a mom and pop seafood place with great food. It is near New Iberia. Also a great restaurant in Henderson that is over the Achafalaya Basin...i can't recall the name of the restaurant but locals in Beau Bridge will know.
      Bon voyage!

This reminds me of Boy Scouts, through which I became an Eagle Scout. Our Scout Masters would have us pack our own trapping gear and other survival gear then leave us in the woods. Three times through out the week they would visit us and we were to prepare a meal from the forest for them and us. It was a great, rewarding, and humbling experience. At the end of the week they would rate each patrol in the troop points for best camp, meal, and survival techniques.

Hey I love you videos. I like to think of myself as a survivalist myself. Born and raised in Montana. I have a 18’ Cheyenne style teepee, and the smoke was unbearable unless you sat low to the ground. I dug in and put in 6-8 mainline irrigation pipe to help with the smoke. Warm for IN the shelter is crucial. But the air tunnels from what I’ve found are the bees knees. Thank you for your videos.

Build a "Tiki Hut" roof about 6 ft tall from crown to skirt and make the bottom "Skirt" about 6 ft diameter.
A "Tiki Hut" roof looks like an upside down funnel with the spout cut off and leaving just the hole.
Suspend it above the fire pit with the bottom edge of the roof about 7 foot high .. so as not to bump your head when walking around.
and unless you build a huge bonfire there is no danger of the Tiki roof catching fire.
Then drape the canvas tarp over the Tiki roof with a hole in it to match up with the hole in the Tiki roof.
This will create a "Chimney" that will draw the smoke up and the canvas tarp will provide shelter as originally planned for.
Love your videos Mike .. keep them coming.
John from Carson City, Nevada USA

Adding more tarps to the walls especially in the sleeping areas would stop most of the wind and snow getting inside, and protecting your gear and yourself from the elements! I would also add a roof to the center of the Survival Fort to help protect everything else from getting wet, and having piles of snow where the fire pit is. Try to make it so that you don't have additional work cleaning up snow, or getting your fire wet, would also help in keeping more heat inside, so everyone stays warmer!

Just looking at the camp set up. Thinking, build an all rock "stove" like a wood stove, only a little bigger than a small wood stove, then run a pipe up along the tree trunk, using it to guide the pipe with a jog to the side to let the smoke out. That way you could keep the tree, keep the fire inside the camp, and maybe find a heat shield for the place the pipe runs along the tree - not sure of materials (you or other bush craft people would know that best) so that ultimately, you could permanent roof the entire camp. That's my 2 cents. -- Oh no. Just realized, this is an old video. Okay. Nevermind! lol Really enjoyed the beginning all quiet, the middle with talk, and I think you apologize perhaps a little too much for needing to make a living. We all have to. My first time watching your channel, recommendation from Bush Radical.

    For the roof.
An idea could be to do a simple square roof, the same height as your main bed(green tarp): extend it out to the walls directly in front of the main bed(using the existing trees as supports). Then extend the width of the roof to where your fire-pit is currently at ( just before the watch tower); using your tarp to cover the gap in roofing so that you can have it up for snow or down for sun. Remove the fire-pit and put it past the wall near your main bed and do the triangle set up, you could potentially end up enclosing it in some way and use the triangle space as a chimney section of your camp.
    Just my 2 cents

It’s a sad deal that TH-cam would do such a disadvantage to someone that is teaching a survival skill and honestly a better quality of life. Love the fact that you have been able to achieve sponsors and that your sponsors have even past the great deals down to the consumers. Hello from Oklahoma U.S.A

I wouldn't think an out house would serve any purpose in the woods. I'm not an outdoors man, so my knowledge is limited on the subject. But, why build a structure and shit in the same place until the hole is filled and you have to do it all again? Why not just take your shovel behind that big tree over there, do what you gotta do, and quickly bury it so you don't step in it later?

For your smoke problem I would suggest that you reorient your ridge line to line up with the prevailing wind, with the upwind end lower than the downwind end, by several feet (60 - 100cm), the natural draft from the hot smoke rising from the fire should take it up to the down wind edge of the tarp where the lower pressure from the airfoil effect would take it away. And I really liked seeing your kitchen jack in use, I think you called it a fire crane? I've seen a few of your projects now, a lot of them don't seem to be very permanent but if the building is the fun then more power to you. Keep up the good work.

  • @fryeguy09able

When you first started about the fire issue my first thought before you mentioned the pipe, was installing a pipe vent. So I would go with that. And a dirt mound to help project the heat to where you sleep.

The first time I saw your knife I thought, "Wow! I like that knife!" Actually, I'd like it to be just a little bit beefier,... maybe about 20% more blade, but other than that It really is a simple, but awesome knife.
I also like that stove. I was wondering why you wouldn't use the stove in the camp. I think it would offer many advantages over the fire on the ground. I'm sure you know them, but for those who don't, the camp would be spared the smoke because of the chimney, it could be moved around - even moved closer to the shelter, and it would radiate heat from above the ground and so would heat the ground over a greater area as well as radiating heat into the shelter area itself.
Also, I was wondering if you have a reason for not lining the camp walls to help keep the wind out. The most obvious one I can think of is that you like it that way, which is ok. I was just wondering.
Concerning getting air to the fire on the ground, I think a 4 inch (10cm) pipe would be the the one I would use. I guess the thing to watch out for there would be nests and other obstacles getting lodged in there. Of course, the stove would solve all of those problems.

I've got an idea for that camp. A round enclosure with a domed roof and windows you can prop open with something. Put a covered ventilation opening in the middle of the roof.Obviously, you'd need a door. This would keep the snow and rain off, and with the windows propped open, you could still enjoy nature. You could always put a fire pit a safe distance from the enclosure when you want to cook under the stars. Just a thought.
