Each player seems to win 2 games and then loses 2 games in a row . Great point that Evert didn’t lose to players younger than herself so she was always defending against older stronger players which is why in competition she reverted to playing defensively from the baseline instead of playing more aggressively as in her practices . She did learn to out away floaters and come to the net on short balls , she comes to the net more in this match than any leading up to this match at the time . Evonne could’ve won this match , she’s heaven to watch . Thank you for posting this match .
This is a great match Considering the gap of 40 years that has passed. However I am impressed with the quality of the Tennis despite This happening at Wimbeldon way back In 1976. It is impressive considering how Technology has changed since the 1970s. Thumbs up to the Wimbledon Committee for uploading such a Tennis match and Video.
Evert was the #1 player in 1976, but lost the last two matches to Goolagong months earlier, so a lot was riding on this match. Goolagong was playing well and had chances to win it in the thrilling3rd set. But again, the patented Evert gutsy play and determination turned it around for a 6-3 4-6 8-6 win for Chris.
Brad, any chance you know how to get a copy of WIMBLEDON 1980, a rematch between these two great champions with Evonne winning a truly fairytale tournament.... Mark
Evert was coached by her countrywomen king and Casals from the players box in the final set and she admits it in her own book and sorry but, that’s admitting to cheating
this was when people in the stands wear suits, ties and dresses now they all wear flip-flops and clothes like they just got outta bed.and the players wore nice clothes and frilly underwear and didnt try to show there pecs or calfs

Listening to the insightful BBC commentary during restbreaks change overs is as much a treat as watching the match.

so Evonne wasnt determined....again another foot in mouth moment...and what exactly did she turn around? she was leading throughout most of the match
In December 2007 it was discovered that Evonne was ranked number 1 for two week in 1976. Please shillin 1 don’t forget this!
Man I really love all the videos you post on here

That point at 26:34 was incredible !
Such a great match which really Evonne should have won. 1976 very very hot summer
could have gone either way like the recent Nadal-Djokovic SF at Wimbledon
She won in 1980, and that could have gone either way too. But I love Evonne. Such a graceful player and personality to match.
They both walk pidgeon-toed.
Evert was coached by her countrywomen king and Casals from the players box in the final set and she admits it in her own book and sorry but, that’s admitting to cheating
Evert admits in her book she was being coached from the sidelines by Billie Jean king and Rosie Casals whichis cheating these days
Evonne blew this one! Chris came back strong in the last couple of games...Sad loss for Evonne but came back again in 1980

Chris said years later they were both on the rag during this match and feeling like shit. Not to mention it was a really hot day.
1979 Wimbledon semi final is when Chris said she and Evonne were both having their period. Not this match.
Grand Slam is 7-4 Chris Everts way
Evonne blew this match
