Here's something people watching this video should know The archers used a educational 습사궁(seupsa-goong) Bow for safety(so arrow is slow), and the arrows used blunt sponge arrows(so arrow flies to the wrong place. because the tip is blunt) that's hard to shoot far and fast, but easy to block or dodge 😂😂 But I think it was a fun attempt 😆

Yep and in ancient warfare you would have had, ideally, hundreds of archers shooting at distance. Then sent volley after volley of arrows at the advancing warriors, soldiers. Much harder to dodge that. But it looked like a lot of fun.
Archers supposed to be in groups and fire in volleys. If a foot archer have to skrimish with melee fighters on foot, he would attack from high ground/ambush. Otherwise he would just switch to melee weapon, OR try to climb somewhere (melee fighter will be unable to climb after him because he would have to sheath his weapons to be able to climb = making him easy kil).The "kite" style fighting of archers vs melees like in MMO games that you recreate here is "fair" and surely fun, but unrealistic :) But still was interesting and though-provoking to watch, nice job.

If they fire blindly (which was done for instance in the Sassani empire. with very little success, i might add...) into the pulk then 99.999% of the arrows are going to either miss, hit a helmet, a shield, go "plonk" on the armor or hit something that is not vital. Archers started getting replaced as the handheld gunpowder weapons kept improving. The swiss (among other things) managed to take away the heavy cavalry's role as the No1 deciding factor on battlefields.kicking heavy cavalry off their throne and off their high horse. there is no account of them being particularly effective at countering archers. Even before the swiss reinvented the pikephalanx, archers usually played no major role on european battlefields. Only England and ERE or former ERE territories deployed them in large numbers on open battlefield to begin with.
I love the visual of a battle where the archer has no other weapon and STILL a tries to use the bow when the enemy is right next to him! xD I love this though, looks like a lot of fun!
I thought the same thing. The archer is shooting WAY too slow for the standards back then, he's basically ineffective. Lars is able to shoot multiple arrows accurately and with power, all while being able to switch hands, shoot off balance. I'm curious to see that one day!

He has very impressive techniques to shoot fast but his technique would be much less effective with a heavier weight bow. In a battle, people are usually wearing some sort of protection, even in this video the soldiers are all wearing some sort of protective gear. With low poundage bows, the arrows will not be able to go through those protection. There is a fantastic video done by Tod's Workshop that showcased how even high poundage bows would have trouble penetrating armor. It's undeniable that Lars has very impressive skills, but in my humble opinion it might not work as well as one might think. I also think that this video perfectly showcased how archers are not meant to be exposed to danger in a battle, and they should drop their bows and resort to secondary weapons when enemies get close. They are not volleying the arrows. The key to arrows is to send A LOT down range. The more constant the arrows, the better the effect. They should have it that an arrow or two is being shot each second, taking turns and keeping the pressure up.
@@HiroIndo16 arrows are typically best used by a group. So you start the volley when they are at a distance, keep the volley going until they are not, the make distance. Using arrows in warfare is a group strategy. As seen here, it fails miserably if you are solo.

Archers doesnt fight like that they would never let their opponents come close to them. they keep the distance where their opponents cant reach them. They retreat and shoot using distance as advantages. If the opponent come too close then its time to drop the bow and switch to melee weapon
If the archer keep moving and press "A" near the melee opponent, move between auto attacks and use movement to shorten attack animation, ie, kiting, then the melee opponents will have zero chance.
Comanche style of archery would be more useful here. The archers can do quick reloads. Very few arrows they have got here. The volley of arrows fired are also very less. But very entertaining!!!

Don't know if this matters or not as I never practiced archery, but would using an arrow with a heavier metal head help them be more "accurate", it seemed like whatever they were using really slowed down the projectiles.
I think archery application in the war must be the team of archers, not just a single one like this. An archer in the war can also work if he ambushes the warriors who do not see him. What I also mean is that even a faster archer cannot win the fight, when he is besieged by a group of warriors; but if the other weapon holders are not skilled, the faster archer may win. 🙏
Look , the problem is that is not how archers and other long range unit would actually act , they need to move , not just stand on one place and wait to be killed. They need to break distance , and then shoot , cose they got LONG RANGE WEAPONS , that is made for LONG RANGE of course.
Needs a different style of archery - these look like modern Korean meditation archers - long range 145m single shots. Close range style archery is very different, more like horse riding style with parkour and tactics.

Forcing to raise the shield/take cover and forcing to comress formation were other effects. The number and quality of archers necessary to do that depends. On the equipment (big shields, small shields, no shields, heavy armor, no armor, horses, camels, elephants, chariots?) of those who are shot, on their experience with being shot (veteran of a million sieges, never seen a bow in their lifetime?), on their ...psychology(including level of suprise and confusion), on the type of battle (siege, skirmish, open battle)? In a siege a handful of archers can force everyone to constantly seek cover. In an open battle 10 guys in heavy armor with large shields can murderrush several hundred archers and be fine. So it depends. On the enemy on circumstances, on the weather on the archers...

The first round five vs one is pretty frustrating to watch not gonna lie. What a ridiculous disadvantage for the archer that's already getting handicapped by safety arrows and a twenty pound bow.

Lars Andersen as any medieval proffessionnal bow fighter would have kill them all. They could throw 10 arrows in 3 seconds. 300 fps per arrow for medieval archers

It's the arrows. They have sponge ends, so they are slow and easy to dodge. Also, the trajectory is probably impacted by the tip

that's why there were large rcher units, 50 to 100 usually, too many arrows shot, so atleast some of them will hit outside of their range.

If you use the bow, you will need stealth, accuracy, and exploding arrow tips like Rambo to win. Or you can carry a sword for close combat.
Or you use it for what it was inteded: as a weapon of supression, rather than a machine gun.
