  • Here's a product that I've been promoting to whoever will listen to me. LOL.
    I found this product on the Model Railroad Hobbyist website while searching for an alternative way to clean my track. model-railroad...
    Unfortunately I couldn't find the place I bought it but I can see that it can be found on Ebay.

    I too have heard great things about it and have some, but I have yet to try it. I'm starting to paint the track and want to get the ballast on before I use the No-Ox.
    Bright Boys are really abrasive and can cause problems in the long run. I use dish sponges, the yellow sponge with the green scouring on one side. Cheap from the dollar store, cut into N scale wide strips to do both rails but fit through tunnel entrances and bridges. I use them with rubbing alcohol and use the green pad for anything I feel the sponge side catch on.

      Definitely wait until after painting and ballasting as you'll be dealing with paint and glue on the track and cleaning over and over. I didn't do it until all that was done on my layout. I agree with the bright boy track eraser, it scratches up the rail pretty good that's why I went over again with a very fine grit sandpaper to make sure everything shines. Once the No ox is applied and allowed to penetrate the rail, no more cleaning with Alcohol.

    I bought some after watching another TH-camr who applied it and have success as you did, I haven't had a chance to use it myself yet, but look forward to the results.
    Thanks for your input on this product 👍

    It is a conductive anti-oxidation grease. Similar to that used in the electrical field on aluminum wire.

    I've been in the hobby seriously for over 60 years (layout in Kalmbach's Great Model Railroads 2009 and 2020.) and have tried everything. This is far and away the best thing I have ever used. It is a miracle product. Just to let you know, I operate with DCC and only use rolling stock with metal wheels.

      I would scratch my head why I needed to clean my track almost every other week when I was using Isopropyl Alcohol. Ever since using No-ox my rails are always clean and my trains run smooth as silk. Miracle product indeed! I will be swapping all my wheels to metal on of these days.

    Dont use a Bright boy - try this instead. Cork. Use pieces of cork roadbed, the first will be goo gone infused. Then dry to remove. Then alcohol infused. Then dry to remove. Do this and then apply the NO-OX . Do not use a brightboy.

      Well too late for me. I used a bright boy then went over again with 1000 grit sandpaper which did the trick very nicely.

    I have been using this for over 3 years, I have a large layout 6.5m x 6.0m with 2 levels joined by a 76" helix, this is amazing I haven't had to clean my track in over 1 year, and I run locomotives several times a week, I have also used it on loco pickups sparingly, mostly to just clean them they run much better particularly the steam loco's high, highly recommend this product, it does what all the hype says it does

    Jan 2022: It's on Amazon as well these days. Another channel recommended this too. With the Midwest US Winter and a garage layout, I haven't been able to try it yet. Great video! Thanks for all the detailed info!

    I think ill finally give it a go. Ive had some for a while now, but have been hesitant to use it. Does it cause problems if not all my rolling stock has plastic wheels?

    • @jdigg2007
      @jdigg2007  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think it matters. I would go out on a limb and say that having metal wheels might be better? But again I don't think it makes a difference when it's applied correctly. As I said in the video, clean it all off after letting it sit for 24 hrs to penetrate the rail. There should be no evidence of it after you're done. Good luck! You won't be disappointed.

    I am just getting into the hobby. I have a simple Bachmann steel alloy ez track setup on my carpet. I have been having cleaning issues since like day 3. Needing to clean or spot clean my track like every day I run the layout. I just got this product and applied it after cleaning the track with mineral spirits. Immediately I noticed an improvement in the way my locos run. We will see how it goes in the coming days. The idea of me not having to clean my track for a year or more is crazy. Let’s hope it’s true

    Is that cp rail engine an intermountain sd40-2? If yes im looking for one with engine number 5771 or 5720..I know it's an odd reply on this video but just curious if you'd have one available for sale? I am for sure going to try this product

    • @jdigg2007

      Hey Jeff no problem, but the engine in the video is an atlas GP35. I don't have a SD40-2 for sale, sorry.

      Am I imagining that the engine has the very Canadian "nose headlight "? If yes did you do it yourself? Could I see it run.?does it also have ditch lights

    • @jdigg2007

      @@jeffallen5698 Yes I did the nose light myself with a Miniatures by Eric detail part. Unfortunately I haven't worked up the courage to install the light. I have the light, I'm just too chicken.

    Hi I have the same for my model railroad . I have had my layout setup for two years now and have not had to do a major cleaning yet all my track was new. I have been adding on the the layout and that makes track dirty once all my construction work completes I plan to use this on all my track. Could you write up the steps and post them That would be very helpful

    No-ox was made for electricians. It was used on main power cables especially if different metals. It helped maintain conductivity. I use it on my car battery. That was the electricians version. However , I believe it will work on the rails. I was told, put it on wipe it off . Use very little, especially on hills. I bought this brand but haven't been able to use it yet because I'm still doing scenery. I call it level two . Hopefully I'll be done by end of summer.

    No black on the finger? That’s cool. So does the NO-OX make the black fall off the track? Like where does it go? Between the rails? Would your locos suck it up if the dirt/black fell between the rails?
    I have the NO-OX, just wanting to research a little more before I apply it.
    Also, you haven’t had to clean your track in a year? That’s amazing.

    • @jdigg2007
      @jdigg2007  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No-ox appears to prevent the black from happening. I don't know how the science works, I just know that it does. I'm working on over a year of no serious track cleaning! Only vacuuming now. Gotta do it right otherwise you could have problems. Clean your track really well, clean your loco wheels, you can even clean your rolling stock wheels if you want to start from ground zero (I didn't), apply no-ox sparingly around your layout, then run your Locos and spread it around all your tracks. Let it sit for a day, then wipe the excess off the track and the loco wheels then enjoy problem free running! Keep in mind this stuff won't fix electrical issues.

      Over a year? That’s sweet! I’ll have to do it. Not that it’s annoying, but it’s kind of annoying doing it every few weeks! Thanks!

      From what I’ve seen and heard, the black is caused by micro arcing and no ox prevents the micro arcing.

    How does it affect the trains on inclines? Slipping issues?

    • @jdigg2007
      @jdigg2007  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      None. So long was you don't slop it all over the track. You don't need much. After you let it sit and penetrate the rail you then wipe any excess off the rails with a clean cloth.

    One step that was missed, re wheel all rolling stock so they have metal wheels. The crap that the plastic picks up and slowly lays back on the clean rails means you have to repeat the cleaning a few times to get every thing running well.

      @jdigg2007  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Appreciate the comment but I have pretty much all plastic wheels and I’m going on 2 years without issues.

    Briteboy, sand paper?
    No.
    I would not use anything on my track more abrasive than a cotton sock.
    Coating?
    No.
    Chemistry says that the oxide of nickel silver is more conductive than any coating you could apply.
    At least one of your viewers alluded to problems with using chemicals if you have traction tires.

    • @jdigg2007
      @jdigg2007  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really sure what you’re trying to say. Yes I used an abrasive to clean my rails before I applied the no-ox. I also used a very very fine sand paper to “polish” it. Bottom line is after applying no-ox to my rails and to my locomotive wheels I have had zero instances of track issues due to dirty track. Even after weeks of no running. Vacuum up any dust and run trains. Snd I’m not the only one experiencing these results.
