  • As part of a previous video, I zeroed my Schmeisser SP-15 Straight-Pull AR.15 with GGG 55gn .223 Rem / 5.56 at 50m according to what the manufacturer says about the reticle of the Primary Arms SLX-1x single-power scope. How does it hold up at 300m? Does the BDC reticle do what it's supposed to?
    And how does it fare with 77gn MK262 Mod 1C?

    I loved seeing the ammunition comparison, you just can't tell some people that 55gr can match or beat 77 even in a 1/7. And yes even in the states we can appreciate such a neat and beautiful rifle🤘

      Only at shorter ranges though. Try shooting 55 at 600m or so. It'll get there, but a 77 or 80 is far better.

      Schmeisser is a German company though. They are known for their competition-grade AR-15s around here. Not cheap, but good. I didn't know they make a straight pull AR.

    I enjoyed the on range video, and also the rifle seems impressive. I would like to see how the rifle performs with a more conventional higher magnification optic, but your groups @ 300 were impressive.

    For what it's worth, the ACSS Reticle wasn't designed to be a precision reticle. It was designed to be a very versatile and quick combat reticle, which it appears to be doing a very good job of.

    The audio artifact of just _how_ that bolt/spring combo wants to curl my hairs a touch, though. It's not rat tart bad, just a bit like having spam, baked beans, and sapm without the baked beans, though.

    What an amazing rifle set up. I'd love to have one of these in Australia.
    We have a few domestically produced straight pull ARs, but unfortunately, they are all left side charging... or pump action.
    So you can't fire them while in a sling, which makes them terrible target rifles.

    Hey BlokeotR, have you heard of the new Primary Arms slx 5x? It doesn't seem to be getting as much fanfare as the slx 3x. I hope that you will find it at least vaguely interesting enough to do a review on it at some point.

    • @BlokeontheRange
      @BlokeontheRange  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've heard of it, but my initial impression is that 5x is a bit much for a fixed power optic. I've been working with the 3x and it's great though, check the lastest video on the L2A2 SUIT fail.

    Your grouping has always been spot on but ive got a suspicion you are canting the rifle just a smidge. You always seem to go top right.

    • @BlokeontheRange
      @BlokeontheRange  ปีที่แล้ว

      An unperceived cant would be to the left though, and in any case compensated for by the sights. I grew up shooting 300, 500, 600, 900 and 1000 yds, so canting was a biiiig no-no that was drilled into us (cos it screws with your windage zero when you change distances)

    • @zoiders
      @zoiders ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you think it might be your left hand on the toe of the butt placing just a bit of pressure on and pushing the muzzle up right slightly? Obviously that is how you are meant to shoot from a bipod or bag as it let's you fine tune elevation with just a squeeze of the v of your hand.

  • @Chlorate299
    @Chlorate299 ปีที่แล้ว

    Something I've wondered about straight-pull ARs is have they changed the design of the bolt/breech interface to give a bit of primary extraction, or is it just that it has a big lever and if you use good quality ammo it works well enough without?

    • @BlokeontheRange
      @BlokeontheRange  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, there's no primary extraction and no way to add any internally into the system. If you're not using crappy ammo it shouldn't be a problem if the rifle's clean. People have made external camming lever systems but they haven't found much favour.

    • @Chlorate299
      @Chlorate299 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BlokeontheRange Thanks! Yes I suppose the AR's bolt head design isn't conducive to it without some fairly funky machining, which would defeat the purpose of the thing entirely.
