I moved to Ithaca in 1964 and was stunned to discover the Lab! 2 miles from my home and was able to rear my children to love and understand the beauty of birds and also to lead my G.S. troops in the same experience. The grad students met them early on Sat. mornings to explore and learn! My son is now a bird photographer! It has been so exciting to see how the Lab. has grown! thank you SO much!
Really wonderful. Thank you, Mr. Vyn, for putting on the chest waders and lying in the muck, and walking the tundra, to get such amazing footage. Things I will never get to see in my lifetime except through your lens. Thank you so much!
I never realized that so many of these migrating birds depend on these mudflats. Thank you, Cornell, for keeping people from all parts of the globe informed through TH-cam.
Incredible videography. I respect the amount of dedication that goes into filming a video like this and sharing such a heartfelt story of the incredible journeys of these birds.
Beautiful photography - and fascinating information. How wonderful to have such a job as is yours ! One can only hope that the Yellow Sea area does not become too polluted to enable these birds to thrive. I have to say that I am surprised that anywhere in China / East Asia is actually ok for birdlife .... Long may it continue 🥰
I love this video so much! Fantastic views of all those species. Really, really beautiful, thank you for making this. I especially love the spoon billed sandpipers!!
Thank you for this beautiful and amazing view of the shore birds. As I watched it and kept thinking: "If only humans would learn to share the world as these birds do. Borders mean nothing to them!"
Only just stumbled across this video, but it's really great. Makes me want to go to the Yellow Sea! (At the appropriate time of year.) Really nice to find videos that aren't trying to make animals Super Cool for people who aren't otherwise interested, even if that's a noble goal - just tell me facts and share your fantastic videography. Thank you!
Radio Australia program Off Track has a good 4 part series/podcast called "Flying For Your Life". Informative, emotional and explains the trouble some of the migrating shore birds experience due to coastal development.
Margaret Parkes -- would you please post a link? Sounds like a very informative series; never heard of it elsewhere. Thank you, greetings from the USA.
What fantastic filmography! Scary to think that habitat loss through land reclamation (eg in South Korea) in the Yellow Sea could lead to the extinction of some of these species. :/
The person who is allowed to and can see all this is so incredibly privileged. It's hard work with regular hardships I suppose. I only mention the plague of mosquitoes. But despite these things, it remains an unprecedented privilege. Been to Siberia twice. Once in the Lena Delta and once in the Indigirka Delta. I will never forget those two trips in my entire life.
There is a Russian proverb dedicated to these birds: every sandpiper praises its swamp. Thank you very much for your work.

This is the best video about birds I’ve seen.
That was a great video! More like this.
Thanks for that precious knowledge!
Amazing story in the planet Earth, which we know about so little seemingly!
As close to a perfect short documentary as is possible.
That sound was almost as haunting as that of a Loon. The tenacity and habits of these tiny creatures is mind boggling!
Amazing work, the conservation of the yellow sea's spots are crusial for the prevalence of these species.
More people should see this great work.
Beautiful documentation
absolutely beautiful, hopefully one day I can visit these places and go on a bird-watching trip around the world.
