    Hey, I'm Charles from Louis Purple. We're in New York. And I'm going to teach you how to tie the Merovingian knot. It's also called Ediety knot. So the way you want to start for this knot, it's a knot that goes around the narrow side quite a few times, so you want to wear the wide end fairly long compared to the narrow end, probably about 20 inches below depending on the length of your tie.
    So this is how you start. The wide end goes underneath the narrow end. You go over the top once and pull it out on the same side. So this is what you have. Now you go over to the front, underneath through the back, and now you should be in this position so the tie is upside down. So this is a tie from my friend Cara Patrizio from Capelli in Naples, Italy. And this is how you proceed. So your tie is upside down. You go around the back, through the top. You're almost there. Now the last step you have to complete is reverse the knot, loosen it gently, and slide the white part inside the loop that you've created for that. Adjust it nicely. Tighten the knot, and there you go. You have your Merovingian knot. So after spending so much time tying the knot, it's something you don't want to wear when you're really casual.
    It's really a knot that is used in formal occasions, probably wearing a three piece suit, for example, or a nice blazer. And definitely going with a sophisticated look with this type of knot. The guy who created this knot probably watch Matrix a little bit too much, but this is probably where the name came from, the Merovingian knot.

    This is hands down the single most beautiful knot I've seen. You'd need a really good quality silk- solid colour or maybe tiny polka dots and very carefully seamed. Cheap ties will not work with this.

    I get a lot of compliments on the Merovingian. Especially with a black and white striped silk tie or an antique white silk tie, worn with a white shirt.

    This is good to if yours tie is too long and you don't want to cut it or if you don't have shorter one.
    There's only 2 things to do:
    1) reverse a tie upside down so you're watching her back side while you are tieding it
    2) take her off and reverse it again so the wider side is on the front.
    It doesn't look bad so :)

    I hate this knot. Thanks for sharing, but it's very ugly. I would be ashamed if I wear a suit with such a knot. It's like a tradition to keep the thinner side on the back. I hate to break that tradition. Makes me uncomfortable.

    • @r.n501
      @r.n501 9 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Sometimes you just got to branch out and break tradition. Express yourself essence than letting ancient precedents express you. I wore this with my contrast Tommy Hilfiger tie. And people liked the way the blue, grey, and red plaid pattern contrasted against the narrow, navy blue end. I even wore the knot during a college fair and was accepted by a few on the spot. Sometimes you got to separate yourself from the grey crowd, and one of the best way to do it is simply how you tie your tie. Give it a shot.

    • @AwesomeMissNic

    I Was wondering if It was possible to get the wide part in front while still having the knot (I do not like the thinner part being at front). So I tried it. I just did the same step but reverse. so I have the same knot but the wide part is front. Which looks much cooler to me

    Everyone is blaming the knot, but that TIE. It's the tie that's hideous. With a smooth silk champagne and teal (and covering up the stupid part of the tie, but showing the knot only) with a three-piece or a sweater, this is *kind* of a neat knot.
