  • The Merovingian Knot comes from cinematic origins where it was first observed in The Matrix worn by The Merovingian. This theatrical tie knot is as animated as its character and it leaves no details out. The finished tie knot looks incredibly unorthodox and it looks like something that only the bad guy could pull off.
The Merovingian Knot, also known as The Matrix Knot or the Ediety Knot, showcases the skinny end on the outside of the tie and an intricate three-weave knot at the top. It's something spectacular to behold and it take some concentration to complete with finesse.
Take your time and follow the steps to the Merovingian Knot carefully. If you're planning to wear it to a special occasion, make sure you practice it ahead of time. The Merovingian Knot looks incredibly unique and it should be reserved for medium to widespread collar shirts.
Have a go at following the Merovingian Knot tutorial and see if you can pull it of with villainous precision. It may take you a few practices but this step-by-step tie knot tutorial will help you master the Merovingian Knot in no time at all. If you're feeling proud, tag us at #OTAAhowto. I got positive comments on campus yesterday about this knot. I wonder if I can find longer ties for the Merovingian knot.

Hi there, just a comment for those who amy want this tie to be a bit easier, this tie is simply the equivalent of tying a regular Windsor knot with the tie beginning on the flip side, rather than the front, and then flipping again to wear

I remember the Merovingian, he used a special knot, but I remember that he used the tie of the same color of the shirt.
My question is: is that a good thing or do we need the contrast?
I am just wondering, because my style journey is just beginning.

My response to you as someone who was married to a man who loved to tie different kinds of knots for his ties and wear them with different shirts and different looks, is to do whatever pleases you. Try different looks whether contrasting or matchy-matchy and see what you come up with. You'll find your look and you'll know it. My late husband's favourite (and mine) was the Eldridge. However if he were still here, I know he'd want to try this one, neither one of us had ever seen this before. Thank you to the channel owner and Matthew McConaughey for the instruction!

I would personally only wear this with a vest, the knot looks great but the short and of the tie left in the middle doesn't, the vest would cover that

They forgot to mention the first step, flip the tie over with the seam facing up.
If you know how to tie a double Windsor knot, it the same thing tied with the seam facing upwards, flipped over. In other words, start with the seam facing upwards, tie a double Windsor knot, then lift tie over your head flip it over and put back on
