Karen Jones, thank you so much for volunteering your time in showing us how to be the not just a great wife, mother, grandmother, sister etc…also, on behalf of my husband thank you showing me how to be a better wife for my husband by becoming a better cook and by helping me be more appreciative of what he does while has at work. THANK YOU!
Thank you Karen for the showing the viewers how wonderful home-cooked meals can be! It’s not hard to cook! I’ve always heard people say that cooking is sooo hard and that’s why they eat out all the time! But that’s not true!! If people can read, they can cook!! I learned some cooking skills from watching my Mother & my Aunts! But now, I was tired of the same dishes over and over, but with cookbooks, videos like yours and some of the others…I have really enjoyed cooking again! Me & my husband are retired so it’s just us for me to cook for. Cooking for two, is a lot different than cooking for a family! But when I make a stew, a pot of pinto beans or things like that, we always freeze about half of it. Then next time we want it, all I do is thaw it out and heat it up and dinner is ready!! Thanks again Karen! I wish my husband liked boiled cabbage as much as I do!! I sure miss it!! My mother-in-law made a stew one time and put cabbage in it. She invited us over for dinner that night. My husband went back for seconds and said multiple times how delicious that was!! I was furious because he always told me that cabbage smells bad when it cooks & tastes bad eating it!! When we got home, I told him that wasn’t long onions, like his mom had told him, and I told him it was cabbage! He called her on the phone to ask her! She told him yes, it was cabbage! So that has gone into my stew ever since!! (He never says a word about cabbage as long as it’s in a stew!). Thank you Karen! NORMA COLLINS FROM TEXAS
I just happened upon your channel today. It reminds me so much of me cooking for my family, waiting on my husband to come home from work, and having our meal together. My children are grown and on their own and I lost my husband, so it’s just me and I seldom cook a meal anymore. But what beautiful memories!! ❤
Sorry girls to hear about your grandma,I pray the Lord to be with all the family. I ask the Lord to wrap his arms around you and give you peace. God bless.
Dear Karen I have only recently come across your very channel. I am enthralled as these are recipes I've only ever heard about, seen in films/TV or read about in books. I certainly would never turn down a dinner invitation from you! So many times when you've held your cooking up to the camera, I've thought, 'Please pass it through the screen!' It's a treat watching you (and the appearances from your husband and family members). Sending love and appreciation from the UK 🇬🇧❤️
Thank you Karen for this lovely, cooking video. I feel like I just got back from cooking class! A wealth of cooking tips and "know how" in food preparation. The hamburger steaks look divine! You are a treasure and blessing to your family and us all. I know you love to cook, but it's a lot of work and standing, not to mention the "clean up". Rest up sweet lady, and take care🧡
I love to watch you cook and you and your are so cute together. I have been cooking many, many years and your cooking is reminiscent of the way I cook. I loved your cube steak, potato patties, gravy, etc. I have never put okra in with my beans, but I will, now. Thank you. 😊
Karen, you make my kind of meals. The only difference is in the gravy....I use a dash of Worcestershire Sauce and a heaping spoonful of pure horseradish instead of the balsamic vinegar. I know your hubby is going to be so grateful for this meal. I can almost see the smile on his face. Thank you ever so much for sharing this cooking demo...I think it is helpful to your your younger audience to see it doesn't take that long to prepare a whole meal. And it is a great reminder to us seniors to cook this up as well and freeze the extra meat portions for a day when we might not feel like cooking. Have a Blessed day.
Loved the uncut version and seeing you at your stove. I made your chili yesterday and it was SO DELICIOUS!!!! Will use your recipe from now on. Thanks so much!
Hello Karen…I take two small safety pins and pin a hand towel on my top as a apron,😂 Love watching you and hearing how you enjoy cooking and making your hubby happy. Bless the both of you and your so appreciated. Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day !
I just love it when you just look at us, give us a quick smile, and then raise your shoulders. I just plain love you so much. I wish I was in your welcoming and cozy kitchen chatting away while soaking up all of your knowledge. For me, you're cooking is the best way of cooking...comforting and made with lots of love! I'm so grateful your channel popped up. Thankyou so much for welcoming us to your home. You're family is awesome! Thankyou for being you.
"Better Than Bullion" beef works really well with ground meat. It works better than brown gravy mix. With your beef broth it should be great. I enjoy your cooking so much because all of your recipes are quck and easy. Even easy to remember. Chicken "better than bullion" works also really well with chicken broth with chicken. A dear friend of mine made beef barley soup with Bthanb and I enjoyed it so much. You have given me great ideas for amny dishes thank you.
I keep a nice size pretzel plastic on my counter with a grocery plastic bag every day for scraps. End of day I throw it out and put a new one in for tomorrow. It’s so handy. I keep a pan of hot dish soapy water in my sink to keep my cloth and hands clean when I’m cooking. After meal done . I put my used spoons, spatulas, forks etc in that water for a nice rinse before I do dishes. You cook like I do. Easy, happy, and with a smile.
Hi Karen, Thank you for the video. I really enjoyed it, I would like to know though what type of brown gravy do you use that is in the container that you said you liked so well ?
This video was so fun to watch. Your kitchen is beautiful and that dinner is something I would make for my husband who only likes American and Mexican food. Thanks ✨️
My mom taught me to always stat a dishpan of hot sudsy water when I started a meal. As I finished using something, it was tossed in the water. As time permitted, I’d reach in there, wash the utensil, dry it and put it away. When I finished cooking, my kitchen was almost clean!
I LOVE --- LOVE -- LOVE -- YOUR COOKING VIDEOS --I MISS MY MOTHER ,, you remind me such much --- of my mother --she loved cooking for all the family ,,, WE MISS HER !
Karen, speaking of sweet potatoes. Allow me tell you what I did. I made Beef Stew & used both regular white potatoes as well sweet potatoes in my stew. Delicious!💯
Another delicious meal! Yes a silicone whisk would be wonderful. Also a silicone lid with a "floppy" middle prevents boil overs.Have heard that placing a wooden spoon across the opening also works. Haven't tried the spoon but the lid is great. 2 super cooks in one family, double good eating ! Peace, love and happiness to everyone. 🥰🐈⬛
Dinner does look delicious, especially on a fun-filled Friday night 🎉. I also love that kitchen view of the out doors. Buttermilk in creamed 😮potatoes. Can’t wait to try it❤️HAPPY WEEKEND to you and the family!
Thank you for cooking with us this Friday ❤❤❤❤ I love hamburger steaks with gravy and of course I love homemade mashed potatoes sooo good. Cabbage tooo. Thank you again this is my favorite channel on TH-cam 🎥🎥🎥
Hi. Sometimes I make creamed cabbage. Talk about yummy! Scoop on top of mashed potatoes. Drain off all water from cabbage pot then add heavy cream, salt and pepper! Amount of cream depends on how thick or thin you want the cabbage gravy. I prefer a little on the thick side. Also, I remember my mom always had sliced bread or biscuits on the dinner table. I did until my boys got out on their own.
It is so relaxing just watching you cook, so natural, and your window picture is beautiful. Great food, thank you, your friends at Red Cardinal Kitchen. Sonja and Christopher
Karen I just love watching you cook . It's so relaxing to me. And the meals you prepare are so delicious. I fix so many of your meals and my husband just loves them. I cannot thank you enough sweetie. I look so forward to sitting down with my glass of ice tea and enjoying your videos. Love Y'all!!!
Mrs. Karen, you are indeed a wonderful Southern cook. The way you do your onions is exactly the way I do mines. You've certainly inspired me to do some hamburger steaks. They look DELICIOUS!! The entire meal looks amazing! Thanks for sharing your wonderful recipes! ☺️💗
I wish I could reach through this screen and gobble that up! Lol! Oh my goodness, that looks delicious, but I sure wouldn’t expect anything less Karen! What a nice meal for a gloomy day. That’s a belly warmer! Thank you!!! You look nice! Blessing to you and the Famiky. ♥️🙏🕊♥️
Karen everything look so good I remember mom would do the same thing with cube steak and used kitchen Bouquet for her gravy and have mashed potatoes and a veg . And had either brown and sever rolls or Rhodes yeast rolls .Them where the days .I'll have to try your gravy mix .Love your pans you cooked your potatoes and cabbage in reminds me of pans 30 years ago .❤️
That is one awesome meal....I bet your house smelled soooo good when you got all that done. I bet Mr. Karen was a happy camper when he got home...lol. It's impossible to find whole buttermilk around here very often either. Thanks for making another yummy meal Karen! Love, Hugs and Blessings.
My mother taught me to take the raw cabbage core, cut off any yellowed part on the outside, rinse, and sprinkle with salt. Tastes just like kohlrabi. Delicious! Cooks treat. ;-)
My hobby is cooking and baking. I love corn dogs. I just watched your video on those I’ll try those. But I didn’t see your recipe for the batter. Usually cooks put the recipe in the description box. I need the recipe but I can make my own cornbread batter too. I happen to love Jiffy but it’s kind of sweet for corn dogs. I put my green onions in small bit of water after I use the greens I can grow my own chives, I think I’ll add some of my home canned mushrooms in my hamb gravy.
Your meal looked sooo good! My mom used to make a cabbage one pot meal, where she boiled it with smoked neck, cabbage ( of course !) and potatoes. Soo good! I do it over here, but they don’t sell smoked neck, so I substitute it with a smoked ham steak. Like yourself, I don’t use breadcrumbs in my hamburgers or hamburger steaks. Btw, I made your sandwiches, breaded mozzarella sticks and the caramel pecan pie for dessert for Super Bowl night! Sooo good! Thank you for all your delicious recipes!
Thank you for telling me. I'm so happy you enjoyed it. Try my Pork Chops, Potatoes, and Cabbage. One pot meal. It is by far my most popular dish and video.
I'm enjoying you fixing your supper. You cook my kind of food. Ha Ha! I really love the view over your stove area. That's just gorgeous. Stephanie shared her recipe for fried pies. I've been a lil under the weather but as soon as I can I'm going to try it. I found a can of blackberry pie filling. I appreciate your videos. ♥️
Many thanks Karen it is real comfort food, I have been looking at some of my mother's cookbooks, I thing we use to many ingredients to day ,which is so costly.
Hi Karen, your dinner looks like it's going to be So Good. We love cabbage. I like to fry it in butter with some chopped onion, or I make scalloped, aka cabbage casserole. The other day I saw where they're making cabbage steaks, thick sliced cabbage, and frying it or cooking it on the grill, which I want to try. I've made the cauliflower steaks, but haven't tried the cabbage ones. It's on my to try list!
Love hamburger steaks and gravy! Pure comfort food. When I make sauerkraut I cut up and put an apple in it like my mother did. The apple melts into the sauerkraut while it cooks.
Another aawesome video, thank you so much! I'm 78 and alone, so I don't cook bigger meals anymore. I have a couple of questions: You used cast iron, please tell me how you clean...my skillet is horrible and I've seasoned it, but there is still a very rough bottom. And please tell us again about your gravy seasonings...too far away to see what they were...or if it's not too much trouble, maybe a link for Amazon. Missouri shoppers get very little GOOD stuff, so most of the more "unusual" items I have to buy online! Thanks again, dear heart!
I wash thoroughly, dry well and I put dry skillet on stove top, turn it on, let it heat until it just starts to smoke. Let cool and put away. I have two skillets, one small and one larger, dedicated to cornbread. I don't cook anything else in it. I will light coat with oil when and if needed. ❤️
Karen, could you give us a link for the blending fork please? I could only find silicone ones. Dinner looks so good! May have the same thing! Thank you😊
Hi Ms. Karen, have you ever tried, Y’all’s Sweet Tea? it is delicious sweet tea. It’s not bitter. You would love it if you like. Good southern sweet tea.
No worries, good cooking can sometimes get noisy. I've never even tried the gravy mix product, extra bouillon, and balsamic in gravy. I will have to give them a whirl. I may find out my gravy has been a real Caspar Milquetoast version all these years. 😲😄
I was wondering if you were to saute the cabbage instead of boiling it it would be quicker and not so watery. I am sure both methods will produce good flavor. 😀
Just started watching your channel. I think it was Falon on Moss Family that mentioned your channel. You are such a sweet person and you cook like we do. I find whole buttermilk at Kroger if you have one near you. Thanks so much!
Thank you for being a part of our family. I wish I had a Kroger near. The closest is north Alabama and I am central. When I visit my grandson that lives there I'm sure to visit it though. I like Kroger the best. ❤️
Just finished watching! Everything looks like it was going to be delicious!! Now I’m craving hamburger steak and gravy with mashed potatoes. That cabbage looked delicious too. I’ve never cooked cabbage that way, but it looks delicious, with butter like that 😋😋😋🥰
Looks so delicious I never made hamburger steaks looks delicious I had cabbage and mashed potatoes tonight with boneless pork steaks but gonna try the hamburger steaks next time thanks for sharing
In Ireland we eat a cut of pork that we call Bacon, its not American breakfast bacon, its a thicker cut, with a lot less curing (salt). My mother would boil that bacon meat in water and use that water to cook cabbage and of course no Irish dinner is complete without potatoes... when we where kids and we knew we where having that for dinner, we'd say.....Yum yum, pigs bum, cabbage and potatoes. Its comforting watching you cook, its all the familiar foods I ate too as a child. You are an incredible cook and a beautiful soul Karen.
A lot of the settlers in the south were from Scotland and Ireland. The old hillbilly music and dancing were also brought over. My husband is from Alabama and remembers the uncle's clogging and playing the fiddle. Unfortunately there was a good bit of drinking "out back" also.
@@bonnieweeks7601 Many Irish arrived in the USA as a result of the Great Hunger, a deliberate genocide of the Irish, it was a purposeful action to get the Irish out of Ireland and into the colonies, it was the early days of the Industrial Revolution and people where needed to collect the raw material so it could be sent back and manufactured, a Global Reset was needed. As a result of this many Irish had witnessed horrific trauma and endured trauma and so alcoholism was a result of dealing with those trauma's. Music, singing, dance, poetry and of course storytelling have always been a major thread that has stretched across time itself in the Irish lexicon and it only stands the reason if those who departed Ireland would have brought that with them too.
@@SephoraBelle . My dad bought some land in north Georgia and would find an old still every once and awhile. That old moonshine was some deadly stuff. I think seeing so many of my husbands relatives drinking habits made him not want to drink. Although these days there are drug issues also. I pray every night, well for everyone actually. We all need it. Thank you for your reply. I love to hear from people from different areas, I wish I could hear your speaking voice. Irish accent is so beautiful. Scottish is harder to understand. Sorry I'm rambling, old age has caught up.
@@bonnieweeks7601 No, you where not rambling, that's called conversation and so lovely that you reached out to connect. This means so much and thank you. I do have an accent and many are always surprised to know that I also speak the native tongue to Ireland, Gaeilge. In Ireland we call Moonshine Poteen, alcohol made with potatoes. The word Whiskey comes from Fuisce, and Uisce is Water, hence why they call "the drink (alcohol)" jokingly uisge na beatha = Water of Life.
I have only just come across your channel. Karen there is nothing worse than a video that takes you through such a delicious looking meal and then not seeing the plated results!
Then maybe you should move on! Karen doesn't need your approval for anything she does. She usually does show her supper plated right up to the camera so we can see it. There are plenty of other videos elsewhere for you to watch.
@@teresabush4901 hahahahaha. Maybe you also should move on from your negetivity. I certainly don’t need YOUR approval for anything I say and do. I happen to LOVE her videos. She is amazing with delicious looking recipes that we do not cook where I am from. We also don’t put our nose in where it doesn’t belong where I come from. This lady will go far I know this being a part of you tube itself! I am sure Karen will take her comments and use them to be the best she can be.
Miss Karen, we had plans to go to dinner with friends and after watching this video, I called them and said, change of plans, dinner now at my house, serving hamburger steaks and mashed potatoes 😋 it's gonna be good 👍
Hey Ms Karen Never made mashed potatoes with buttermilk but are sure to try it. My mom always put a big glob of Mayo in hers and of course I do the same. We here in NC are having trouble finding whole buttermilk also. Wish I was there to eat with you. Thank you
Everyone in my family loves the core of the cabbage!! My mom use to make hamburger stew, do you make that? My sister and I have been trying to remember how she did it but neither of us can remember!! The dinner for tonight looks soooooo good!!
@@KarenJonesFoodFamily my mom would make it and we loved it!! She had the hamburger, stewed tomatoes, sometimes potatoes or small pasta of some kind, corn and I can't remember what else, she would serve it in round pumpernickel bread, she would cut out the center, put the stew in and replace the top, my mom did that with many different stews, sometimes she used round german rye bread..my sister and I were really hoping you had a recipe for making it!!
Thank you and yes, he was very happy 😊. Loves and hugs ♥️
Hi Karen i love to watch you cook and listen to you you are such a nice lady and your husband too i love to listen to you .
Thanks so much
My mother taught me to take the raw cabbage core, cut off any yellowed part on the outside, rinse, and sprinkle with salt.
I make cornbread but just thicker batter.
Thank you for your hard work. I love cabbage anyway it can be made.
Thank you so much. ❤️
You can see and feel the love in your food ❤ yummy best way to cook
Thank you. ♥️
Hamburger patties in gravy is my go to if I don’t want to think about what to make . God bless .
I will try it, my family will love it!
Yum🎉 you are making me hungry
Great meal!
Look so good!
Thank you ❤️
Many thanks Karen it is real comfort food, I have been looking at some of my mother's cookbooks, I thing we use to many ingredients to day ,which is so costly.
Looks like good meal
and that's a beautiful window... how lucky are you!
So delicious. It's 11pm and I'm so hungry for all of this lol
I know green onion roots if course will reroot can't see why other onion wouldn't work as well have bless evening😊🤗😘❤️you and Papa Jones
Thank you. I've been seeing the cabbage cooked like that also. One day I'll give it a try 😉❤️
Love hamburger steaks and gravy! Pure comfort food. When I make sauerkraut I cut up and put an apple in it like my mother did. The apple melts into the sauerkraut while it cooks.
Karen, I think you’re so great. I enjoy every video.
Thank you ❤️
Another aawesome video, thank you so much!
@@KarenJonesFoodFamily Thank you for responding! Great to learn from a master in the kitchen!!!
Karen, could you give us a link for the blending fork please? I could only find silicone ones.
Dinner looks so good! May have the same thing! Thank you😊
If you follow this link, it's the first item listed. This is a great tool. I use it for lots of things.

Hi Miss Karen. That's another delicious looking dinner. Good Southern food.😊
Thank you. ♥️
Karen, I've got to make this meal soon. Thanks for your video I loved it ❤️
Hi Ms. Karen, have you ever tried, Y’all’s Sweet Tea? it is delicious sweet tea. It’s not bitter. You would love it if you like. Good southern sweet tea.
I have. I like it. ❤️
No worries, good cooking can sometimes get noisy. I've never even tried the gravy mix product, extra bouillon, and balsamic in gravy. I will have to give them a whirl. I may find out my gravy has been a real Caspar Milquetoast version all these years. 😲😄
I love adding it to my brown gravy 😋
I was wondering if you were to saute the cabbage instead of boiling it it would be quicker and not so watery. I am sure both methods will produce good flavor. 😀
Would still be watery but oh so good. 😋❤️
Great video my friend!! ❤️😘
Thank you my friend. ❤️
If you poke a small whole in the top of your broth container, the broth will pour out nicely.
I’ve never cooked cabbage that way, but it looks delicious, with butter like that 😋😋😋🥰
Thank you. You know how I love my butter. 😉❤️
@@KarenJonesFoodFamily Me too 😀
Looks delicious!
Looks so delicious I never made hamburger steaks looks delicious I had cabbage and mashed potatoes tonight with boneless pork steaks but gonna try the hamburger steaks next time thanks for sharing
Just found you. We will be watching regularly
Welcome to our family ❤️
In Ireland we eat a cut of pork that we call Bacon, its not American breakfast bacon, its a thicker cut, with a lot less curing (salt). My mother would boil that bacon meat in water and use that water to cook cabbage and of course no Irish dinner is complete without potatoes... when we where kids and we knew we where having that for dinner, we'd say.....Yum yum, pigs bum, cabbage and potatoes. Its comforting watching you cook, its all the familiar foods I ate too as a child. You are an incredible cook and a beautiful soul Karen.
Thank you. ♥️
What is the balsamic vinegar for in the gravy?
Miss Karen, we had plans to go to dinner with friends and after watching this video, I called them and said, change of plans, dinner now at my house, serving hamburger steaks and mashed potatoes 😋 it's gonna be good 👍
You are amazing. I hope you all enjoy it. 😉 ❤️
I just sub to your channel and the food looks delicious, I love everything and onions 🧅 I can never get enough of….🦋🦋🦋
Hey Ms Karen
Never made mashed potatoes with buttermilk but are sure to try it. My mom always put a big glob of Mayo in hers and of course I do the same.
We here in NC are having trouble finding whole buttermilk also. Wish I was there to eat with you. Thank you
My Mama always used mayo. 😋😋
Everyone in my family loves the core of the cabbage!! My mom use to make hamburger stew, do you make that? My sister and I have been trying to remember how she did it but neither of us can remember!! The dinner for tonight looks soooooo good!!
I've never had hamburger stew. And, I must say, I like to chew on the core. Thank you ❤️
@@KarenJonesFoodFamily my mom would make it and we loved it!! Thanks for your response, I love watching you cook!!
We'll just have to do some research and see what we can come up with ❤️😉
