    "Quantity over quality". -- Except due to Star Citizen's bogus lack of damage scaling, smaller missiles have better damage, so they have both quantity *and* quality. Size 4 missiles are utterly useless because not only are they slow but they do poor damage for the amount of rack space they take. For instance, compare the damage from a salvo of 4 Dominator IIs vs. 1 Raptor IV that takes the same space. There's no comparison.

      S4 is for alpha damage.
      4 S4 raptors are enough to kill a Corsair.

      Conny got a sweet spot too but she eats more missiles because you can't sub target the exact spot.

      @@rixxo Yes but alpha doesn't really matter that much since rapid cumulative does just as much damage (and doesn't even have to be rapid for most of it since physical damage does 70% through shields at worst). The S4s do have the benefit of better blast radius but you can get even better with TaskForce Is.

      @@NozomuYume i used alot of chaos size 3 missles and oneshottet a bunch of bigger ships with one missle just hitting the nose. But ye s4 are rly awfull in speed and dmg compared to a full pack of s1 taskforce .

      Games are meant to be fun for everyone involved. Abusing a system that is obviously flawed to get a grand advantage that is almost impossible to counter is not fun for anyone in the right mindset. I have no problem being bested in a game, but when it is not fun because one person has a win win win mentality than it just proves boring.

You win by beeing better, organized and well prepared, thats the whole premise of the game. I do think missiles need a nerf, but not for your reason lmfao

    I spray Rattlers around like there was no tomorrow, for most of my targets this turns out to be the case. I dont seek out PvP as I'm a rubbish pilot but have been told by one adversary that the full spread of Rattlers making 28 submuntion traces chugged his Gfx card and I got away. Survive = win from my perspective. I'd no cargo on board, so he was just troublemaking. I feel no shame 🙂

    You forgot to mention the importance of sub targeting engines when locking missiles. This does increase their hit rate(in the pu).

      I actually started using sub targeting recently, and I'm killing much faster with it.
      I just need to memorize the order of components. As I think targrting power with missles may be more effective.
      I remember in 3.17 fighting in arena commander with a friend, and for some reason that day I couldn't land a shot on him in a scropius. Well I decided to fire one middle at him, not expecting anything as 3.17 missles almost never hit. (I watched a size 9 do a 180 from flares.) Anyway they hit that time, he tool almost no damage, but over comes I got a message that has us both crack up. He couldn't do anything. He got out of his ship and checked the power supplies, and both were destroyed. Someone needs to tell the scorpius designer, that putting 2 power plants side by side kinda negates any advantage from the pair. Especially on ships that only need 1.

      The order is different per ship sadly. Generally one press gives you engines though.

    I feel like expendable munitions should have a dramatic alpha strike bonus. They are much more difficult on a logistics front, the further away from tame space you go the more valuable and harder to pull off those stunts will be. Missiles should have a dramatic impact; those things don't just cool down after firing like everyone's repeaters.

      I would be fine with limited ammo being more powerful if missiles weren't just fire and forget. They are boring to use and fight against imo. But it is fun to kill ace pilots with the spam.

      My take is that missiles are for ambushes, fleet tactics, or as a tool for fighters to damage capital ships. (lazers never wear shields down, but if a few fighters focus their missiles it will drop the shield on a hammerhead or something)
      In a 1v1 duel where your target can focus on countermeasures or evasive manuvers, they should never be meta at high levels of piloting.
      There is room for finesse with the bombing system however, air to ground. How to approach, how to drop right where you want, choose the right ordinance for damage control... That is the environment where ordinance enthusiasts will be able to show off their talent.
      The gladiator has a turret for a reason, dogfighting is somebody elses job.

    I don’t understand how you are making the missiles fly “up and down.” In the video, it looks like the target is close to the nose of your ship. So whether or not your missiles are under your wings, in the fuselage, etc., isn’t it close to a straight line to the target.

      It has to do with the position of the racks. If the rack is low i fire from above. If the wrack is high it doesn't matter

    QT will break missle locks. When dealing with an EM missle spammer, QT away. Then QT back to the opponent. Rinse and repeat until the spammer runs out of missles.

    How use that tactics with Corsair? Missals are at right wing, how should I aim it. Also I I can put quantity over quality and add 32 S1 taskforce and need to fight something bigger like Andromeda would be enough? I think that it wouldn't took shields off that good.

      Andromeda would increase the chances. It is quite a nice missile boat. I do not consider the missiles on the corsair to be too remarkable personally.

      @@BuzzCutPsycho I took out a Karthu-Al a little while back by shooting 1(!) coda pistol bullet dead and center at the cockpit/pilot. He didn’t get hit personally but he completely lost control of all power/fuel/systems as he fell to the ground crashing into an explosion.
      Perhaps there is a thing to hitting cockpits going on?

    I did this the other day by accident!! I was doing MRT group PVE and fired a missle at a vanny harbinger. Shot it with distortions to soften it up before the missile hit though. Took one shot and I was pleasantly surprised. Checked target HUD and according to it, the vanguard was completely intact, and the red was pretty close to the cockpit area. I think the splash damage got the pilot inside? Because otherwise, virtually nothing was damaged.
    However, I was flying a vanny sentinel at the time and had the most uncomfy ".... huh." moment. 🤔🤔😂😂

    Sound explanation and good Advice. Just watch out for the bug that makes it so that you cannot change your missiles out. In this case you just have to use what you have.

    I'm one of those guys who never gets missiles to work! I emptied a Shrike at a stationary NPC Cutlass Black, and failed to kill it. My missiles go everywhere or orbit the target. 🤷 I bought a Shrike when it came out. Talons were $90 then, quite a bargain considering the alien tax. As a crappy dogfighter, figured I could be a good support for other people but I could never get it to perform. So it got CCUed to something else.

      @@BuzzCutPsycho I buy both Talons in game, but as I'm usually mining or some other non-combat related activity I don't get much chance to use 'em. My biggest complaint of them would be how easily the wings fall off and then you are completely screwed. 😱

      @@Unit-ro6km they were pretty good, shredded smaller ships and punched out systems and engines on bigger ones. This was several updates ago so performance may be dif now

    I used to hate missles. Loaded my Corsair with 4 size 4's because I really didn't care to use them.
    Now I'm using 32 size ones and it's actually pretty nice

      It is a thing but usually a waste. Sometimes you can disable the turret if it hits.

    Yeah this is a bug, your not supposed to be able to kill anything with one missile, much less a S1. Once this gets enough ppl doing it it will be patched.

    Thinking about it, it actually makes sense that top-down hitting instant-kills. Because of the AOE of missiles, it basically nukes the pilot from a top/down situation. Or it nukes the power core/quantum which, we all can probably agree a power/quantum drive getting nuked is instant explosion.

      Didn't they remove pilot damage due to people whining about ballistics? Or was it just for ballistic weaponry?
      I'm also confused on how it works with one missile
      Considering the damage of 1 missile is typically less than the health of a component, let alone the hull
      Hurricane for example:
      JS-400 has a health pool of 3000
      Taskforce 1 does 1156 damage
      Dominator 2 does 2400
      Thunderbolt 3 sort of makes sense considering it does 3276 damage, but wouldn't some of that damage be mitigated by splash?
      The Hurricanes nose and hull HP is 7500
      I'm not going to be one to use this, since I prefer the fun of a good gunfight rather than just getting a bunch of kills to boast about
      But the mechanics at work in this is interesting, and confusing

      Missile accuracy is based on server performance. If server is doing poor it doesn't matter how many decoys they use it may hit. Conversely if they use none it may miss if the performance is bad.

    If quantity is prime, are rattler II missles still good even if they are thermal?
    Also, maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought cross-sectional missles were the hardest to lose lock since there's no way to change your C§ right now.

      Rattlers do next to no damage and have tracking issues. Additionally their use nukes server performance more than servers are already nuked thus making them very unusable.
      CS is in my experience unreliable. The missiles also typically do less damage according to Erkul. Things like the gladiator and harbinger are imo useless due to the fact you cannot change their size 5 torp from CS to EM.

      Sometimes but PU lag makes it very difficult to do that. In an ideal environment I would want either head on or rear. As it is now in practicality I just launch and pray.

    Im a missile boat guy, but s1 missiles shouldnt exist for fighters. S2 should be the minimum, with s1 being shoulder fired/ground vehicle fired, short range deterrents. Nice strat though. Will be valid for a fair amount of time cause CIG wont rework missiles for a while.

      You always want volume over size. Unless you can get size 5 or above. So a Hammerhead should take as many Scimitar 5s as possible.

    What's the logic with the top down missle? If you're in space and the enemy can be in any orientation how does that effect that tactic?

      Most engagements begin with both players facing one another. At that point they're on the same "plane" so to speak. Above and below is relative to the target despite being in space.
      If your racks are above your cockpit you simply aim up a bit. If it is below you thrust up and fire. 1 shot is a possibility not a probability but you can increase the probability of it occurring by aiming higher.
      At the end of the day volume is what counts. Think of it as rolling dice. The more you roll the better your chances of the desired result.

    Question, you mention that EM missiles are the best missiles to use, but why are they the better choice than cross-section missiles? Im asking because the CS for most ships are way too high and there shouldnt be a way to decoy CS missiles. So what am I missing about CS missiles that makes them a worse option?

      Because various parts of the game cause EM spikes and most ships have a higher EM.
      Also a lot of CS missiles have poor stats. The general concession is EM is superior to all. I wish I could give a better answer but I have personally witnessed poor performance from anything but CS.

      I just had to ask because normally what I'm seeing are sensor detections of Size 1 and Size 2 craft based on CS over EM. Your information about QT drives is spot on. I will normally shut mine down as soon as QT ends to keep from being EM detected outside of CS detection range.

    sooo the target should be on ur botton or top targeting cycrle right, so the missle is going first up and then down? im asking bcs on this vid sometimes target was in green on ur up side and sometimes down.. anythink aboute transversal velocity in this tactics?

    Hi. Thanks for the video! Awesome shooting! I am new to game. I fly an Arrow and was using *Taskforce 1* and not having much luck. Not doing the top down shot method. Was suggested to change missiles to *Arrow 1* racks are MSD-221 and 341's. The Arrow 1 is infrared. So I should return to the Taskforce 1 on my Arrow and do the shot from above and behind target? And just to note.. I fly directly at my target and lock on, full solid green lock and fire off 4 missiles. I do not think I have killed anything yet in that volley. I almost always end up finishing target with laser repeaters. I am doing something wrong. Thanks!

      You're not doing anything wrong. This is totally random and may have even been fixed in the most recent patch. Let's assume it was not fixed it isn't something you should strive for. If it happens? Great. If not? Just fight as usual.

I would swap back to TF1's but for some reason the menus in tis game are so messed up right now, it takes like 5 minutes to just select something.       You can kill the tail through normal missile fire usually. Sadly it has little impact. The MAV are weak though.

Most Evocatis i know have ton of ships but almost none game experience beside clapping some npc's....its fukin sad how awfull the balance and changes are .       Because missiles are a an object that is "spawned" by the server and has it's own "AI" so to speak. So the worse the server is the more weird the missiles are. Think if it like bunker AI.

    I heard pioneers are the way to go. I havent finished watching the video yet but i people seem to use that alot for pvp.

      They are a bit faster. Yes. It is generally a toss up between the two.

      Pioneer have a slower lock time then the TF 1's, but they do benefit from speed and have proximity detonation.

      I find that the prox, while useful tends to cause a little less component damage. But they're both good and my experience may be purely subjective.

      @@BuzzCutPsycho The TF 1's have that penetration effect that hits critical areas whereas the Pioneers kinda soften up your target opening them up for a easier dogfight. This may be anecdotal but I feel like the Pioneers provide the best chance to bring down an experienced dogfighter since the proximity detonation is harder to dodge than TF 1's. I usually split my missiles racks between the two.

      I also love Tb IIIs in the Shrike. Or I used to.
      Too often they either just fly straight with no tracking, or deviate in random directions.

    Well it's not about being fair so much as what you're doing is exploiting a game mechanic that actually imbalanced and broken. You're therefore removing the challenge of the fight to begin with. Which in turn will get you those insults. I don't disagree that the best way to fight is to overwhelm your target and take advantage of their weaknesses but that usually means either out flying them(which you are technically not doing by using a known and considered broken exploit by the devs) or by using numbers in such a way they are overwhelmed in that fashion. Even that said the current flight models are so broken that real fights where you're not nose to nose or not constantly super speeding away are almost non existent. Eventually this will all change and you will have to learn how to REALLY fight.

      @@BuzzCutPsycho Yes but there's a difference is using tactics and using broken "I win" buttons that otherwise wouldn't exist in IRL or a fictional universe. You want to win and I get that but in the end this won't help you develop because you're using shortcuts. Shortcuts don't always lead to better valid ways of fighting or defending. It develops bad habits. Bad habits will cause massive issues in the long run.
      Also if you're not looking for a challenge then why play the game? The whole point of playing games is for the challenge. It's why people compete to begin with unless they're trolling.

    Based
