Just as an FYI for anyone looking to purchase one of these. I placed my order for a Lenovo X13 AMD with Ryzen 7 Pro 4750U on September 3rd, 2020. My current estimated ship date is December 15th, 2020. The wait is over 100 days long. If you order one of these, don't listen to the 4 - 6 week ship times. Expect an over 3 month wait.

IMO best laptop look/design ever made. I've always loved the nub regardless if whether I used it or not. But that Black color with just a hint of red has always looked good. Lenovo found something that worked and just stuck with it and they haven't really changed much with the business line of laptops besides just making them thinner and lighter etc.

Oh god, 8gb of soldered RAM in 2021? Are f#ing serious Lenovo?
16GB should be the minimum and 32 available at an affordable cost. You can upgrade the old X270 to 32GB and machines from more than a decade ago support 16GB.
The screens also disappoint at only 300 nits. For working on the go, 450 should be the minimum.
While I do like the power and keyboard feel, a lot of the other specs are not up to the standard Lenovo used to provide.

Does the screen show any reduced clarity of image quality on the sides of the screen you are not looking directly at due to the anti-glare?
My X13 Yoga does show reduced clarity, especially on white backgrounds. None of my past Thinkpads have ever had this issue.

I prefer older thicker designs coupled with high build quality compared to the modern fad of thin especially when modern machines often only have a single sodimm slot and barely a single slot for an ssd. Another thing is people having to pay more for less and getting less in features like said above then paying again later once that 8 or 16gb of ram gets to be long in the tooth having to buy a new machine.

    • @tomonabudget
      @tomonabudget 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I had an Ultrabook from Samsung that I bought in 2011, which came with 8 gigs and was upgradable to 16. That's a decade old ultrabook. You're not the only one that things the specs of the recent machines leave a lot to be desired. I'd also rather sacrifce a bit of thinnes for better cooling, a larger battery and more upgradability, that's what the standard X series was about.
The screen is also disappointing. I've now been looking at used machines because so many of their new ones aren't all that great and they overly focus on Thin Ultrabooks.

@@tomonabudget If you want to find something just to tinker with and have fun with while having something of a marvel then consider collecting an Alienware m17x particularly the R2. It is something else especially when equipped with an RGB screen and some upgrades. For daily use the Precision m6700 is a Lot better than most and one guy on notebook managed to install an mxm rtx 3000 and got it working.

@@MrKillswitch88 The power of those Alienware Machine's is truly great.
My partner has and a colleague of mine have Alienware laptops, to be honest they are too bulky for me. My colleagues comes with 2 giant power bricks, which is frankly impractical enough that he might as well carry a tablet for notes and a Desktop.
I work in a company where we do a lot of development and the Dell's there have been a bit disappointing in their reliability. Many have charging issues or are buggy when it comes to connecting multiple monitors where either the Main screen just goes blank (while still registered by Windows) and exhibiting other problems. My partners Alienware also plays up occasionally.
I got a Thinkpad P53 for my work which is a lovely workstation. While even that series lost a few items that made them better (hybrid battery system), it’s the best compromise I could find and it’s been great. That has also been kitted out with 64GB (I already exceeded 50% of that RAM on a busy workday) and could use more on other days. However, that machine can still be upgraded to 128GB of RAM if that need arises in the next couple years.
For my personal travel use I’d want something that I can toss around (professional Thinkpads are mil-std-810g rated), has good enough specs for a bit of coding, photo editing (maybe one day also video) and a screen that lets me see my photos properly.
      - the X series used to shine in that application.
I particularly want something that’s not too wide or long as I want to travel around the world on a motorcycle. In that case a bit thickness won’t be too bad, however if it gets too wide the laptop physically won’t fit into my top box (secure storage) or under my seat.
A dell XPS or Surface simply wouldn’t survive the torture of travel for long. Lenovo have a good recipe, but they keep removing the things that made their laptops so beloved.

@@tomonabudget The xps line hasn't been solid since the m1730 and is with the faulty gpu issue. As for the Thinkpad I do feel that the W520 and to some extent the W530 were really the end of the line as far as being reliable as later models either deleted important features and had hardware issues including the infamous thunderbolt port. I still remember the manufacturing defect with the P70 with the bad heatsinks that didn't make proper contact.
